Hi guys,

I have started to see some green algae at the front of the tank where the current is stronger. This seems to me to be blue green algae given it appears in patched in between the HC. My assumption is this is caused by sun light from a nearby east facing window even though light does not directly hit the tank.

But I also started to notice some green thread/filament algae coming of the leaves of the HC. I can pull this out with tweezers but it keeps coming back. Unfortunately I am bit rubish on the photo department but here is the photo of what I am talking about. You can see it mainly in the middle picture but it all over the HC.

It is vivid green even though it looks like black on the photo

Your light from the window theory is probably correct.Depends what maintenance regime you have too. I have read blue green algae is not algae but a bacteria and substrate /gravel clean at least until your HC is established is the way forward and 3" of ducktape across the tank glass front for a week or two depriving it of light.Worth a try for starters.Flow at aquarium bottom may not be enough maybe making lack of co2 and nuutrients getting to that level?
