Hello everyone!
I need a help with diagnostic angelfish disesae. Two weeks ago I bought from (not LFS, but some guy) pair of angel albino dantums. They both looked health and active and eat on the first day. But on the second day one of them stopped to eat. I waited 2-3 days and after moved him to quarantine tank (however he was active and was not hiding).
I treated him:
- Esha NDX
- Esha 2000 + Esha Exit
- Esha Gdex

During all this treatments I did water change.
After the last treatment I offered him a live food, he eat one and stopped again. I tried today again, still not eating, but he looks normal, please see the attached photo.
What I could do else to make this guy eat?
Thank you in advance!

What tempreture is your tank? Angels are more happier with warmer temps although I keep mine at 24-25c.

Have you tried dewormer? Fingers crossed they get better. Heres my angels and I got them from a month old and now they are over a year old. There is 2-3 pairs but cannot breed due to the rainbow emperor tetras 🙂

Esha ndx and gdex are dewormers, manin tank at 25, quarantine 26

I would say raise the temp by a few degrees over the week and see if much difference.
Within the tank are there any small stones or snails? Perhaps might have mistaken for food and eaten something. But it doesnt look that bad to me. Colours are good and no fin rotting or tears. I would say once you have finished quarentine pop it back into the tank. The company will help.

I would say this is a case of wait-and-see.

  • There are no visible signs of illness (externals look good)
  • Any treatment added has not improved the situation (meds have zero effect)
  • Moving to a quarantine tank has not improved the situation (the environment change has zero effect)
  • There is not a lot to diagnose apart from not eating

This could be a case of 'a cichlid fish with the hump' at arriving at their new surroundings. If so, they will start eating in due course.

my angels
Beautiful fish, natural appearance. Lovely balanced arrangement with healthy plants, impressed. Though, my experience is that in a four foot tank, a group of 8 Angel fish may become increasingly aggressive with age, but 8 gives a fair amount of fish to prevent one becoming a permanent victim so it may work indefinitely, I had success for years with 6 in a slightly larger tank. Agree with you completely on temperature, I would say, aim for 26 degrees with a floor of 24 and a ceiling of 30.

I've recently had to medicate my blue acaras in a hospital tank and they were quite miserable in there, also not eating. Even after they were healed. When I moved them back to the main tank, they returned to normal in a matter of minutes and were eating fine a few hours later. Maybe your angel is depressed in there.

Thanks. I do notice some bickering. but I just walk up to the tank and its all forgotten with the promise of some food. I feed lean so a pinch for breakfast time and one for dinner time. Ive kept various angels and discus over the years and can always rehome in the future if need be. But for now they are not fighting or overly agressive. The tank is behind my office desk so I literally just turn around and I can see them. I am in talks with the wife for a 5-6ft tank in the future 🙂

As others have mentioned. finish treatment and keep eye and put the angels back in together. Maybe do less of a lighting period to adjust etc.

I had a Dantum angel who stopped eating completely. I fed her frozen mysis with garlic and she recovered. I'm sure it was the garlic because she had no interest in mysis without it.
I'm sure someone on here will know how to add garlic to food.
