Hello,

I just got myself Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Variegata’, A. amazonica (?) and A. plumbea. And I would like to know if it is possible these Alocasia species to thrive in a pot sit in the water with aquasoil substrate that maybe a turn anaerobic? similar to how Colocasia esculenta and Echinodorus are planted in the outdoor pond.

Usually root rot in these plants are caused by soil being present. if you changed the substrate completely from soil to lecca or stones and fully submerged the root ball then possibly, the plant would hopefully take nitrates etc out of the water to help grow it..

I'm no expert but hydroponically growing this in your tank would and should work without soil. leca and alocasia grown semi hydroponically doesn't seem to thrive because the plant can't get enough moisture out of the leca balls
