Hi all,

Developed a pretty bad algae problem. Can you please help with identification and offer any help to get rid?

From the picture, the issue is not major. Just normal diatom on the glass and a little filamentous diatom mostly on hardscapes. Both are normal for a newly started tank and will disappear on their own, IME. Having algae eaters will always help, some say they are optional but for me (and ADA) it is necessary. Even Diana Walstad has snails in her low tech tanks.

What are those glittering spots on the water surface? If they are air bubbles, you're having a surface film problem. I would try to clear it because it blocks oxygen from the air to enter the water. For me oxygen level is important, not just for the animals in the tank but algae issues as well.
