Alfragrog substrate support

Hi

Planning on doing a rescape this week and going to use algragrog as my base layer on one side to raise my substrate up. Will I need to use this in filter bags or will it be ok just to stack up without? The substrate I'm using on top will be tropica soil, normal with powder on top. This will be a long term scape so don't really want it working it's way up after a few months.

Bag it, can use stockings too for that matter.
Not sure the powder won''t fall through the regular soil, largest always end up top.
