Hi Folks,

Anyone here with experience using Adult Brine Shrimp as Feeders or Treats?

I ask because I want to culture them myself for this purpose.
Although what bothers be is that they are filter-feeders and they might be ingesting their own poo suspended in the water column.
Do you think they are dirty or are they okay?

Thanks!

As I understand it adult brine shrimp have very little nutritional value. Freshly hatch baby brine shrimp on the other hand are very high in nutrients.

For that reason most folks just hatch BBS from cysts and feed then within 24-48 hours of hatching, rather than culture them to adulthood.

As @Wookii has already mentioned they’re pretty poor nutrition wise and not worth the agg of going passed newly hatched. Live blackworms are a great food for conditioning fish and easy to keep in a tub outside. What fish species do you have?

Hi there,

Peacock cichlids will be receiving the Adult Brine Shrimp. I read they are high in protein and can be gutloaded.

Thanks!

I thought the bulk of adult brineshrimp was their exoskeleton and they were nutrient poor although I could be wrong.

For something like a peacock I’d recommend maybe mysis or river shrimp if you can get them. Not sure what is available in the phillipines.

Blackworms are very high in protein but not sure if they could cause bloat issues in peacocks. It’s not a fish I’ve kept before so I wouldn’t be the best to answer on specifics in regards to their diet.

Cheers
