Hi Everyone, starting up a new ADA 45p. Found some nice pieces of driftwood and decided to do something a bit different to what I would usually do. Tried to design a deliberate more structured scape with dominant hardscape and use plant species I haven't used before e.g. Vallisneria in the background to create a more airy backdrop as opposed to chucking in a load of rotala's/stem plants. Also using a variety of crypts which will be a challenge as I never seem to get them to recover from crypt melt!

Equipment

ADA 45p
Biotopia LED w/dimmer
Eheim Classic 150
CO2 Art regulator

Plants

Crypts
wendtii (Green)
wendtii (Rubella)
parva
petchii
walkeri
costata
Anubias nana
Bolbitis
Hygrophila pinnatifida
Ludwigia palustris Green
Ludwigia 'Orange'
Ludwigia lacustris
Hygrophila polysperma 'Tiger'
Juncus repens
Vallisneria nana

Looking forward to seeing it grow in. Just some questions if anyone can help:

When should I start dosing my fertilisers? I've always waited a couple of months before starting but has anyone tried using them from the get go?

Once the crypts inevitably start melting, how should I encourage them to grow back? Trim off the leaves or just leave them?

Hi @FJK_12 tank looks really nice i always dose from the start dont see the point in waiting give the plants as good a start as possible and the cripts I cut off the leaves before planting as to stop the crypt melt before it even begins then all new leaves should be fine these are just how I go about a new tank looks great good luck keep us updated
Cheers
Jay

Hi, looks great, love the wood.
What soil are you using? I always start dosing from the start. Never a problem, especially early on when you will be water changing more frequently.
Look forward to seeing this grow in, fingers crossed for crypt success :)
Cheerio,
Ady.

I agree with jay i started getting melt and just cut them all and hopefully ztart growing soon. And i also started dosing frkm the beginning as over dosing wont do any harm and gives best start. Love the hardscape and good to see a 45p

Using a mix of leftover Amazonia and Tropica aquasoil.

Makes sense on the fertilisers, In the past have used the EA Complete liquid plant food, however changing to Tropica Specialised - should I dose everyday or once a week after water change?

Hi ADA,

What type of wood have you used in the scape, goof job.

Not sure what the wood is called, maybe a type of bogwood? It's very dense. Think the rocks are ada yamaya stones

Thanks for all the good words everyone!

Thinking of maybe putting some more val on the right hand side to mirror the left, but not too sure, am worried it might make it look to symmetrical. Already the hardscape has a lot of symmetry but it was important to me to try something different with he hardscape for once.

Hi,
split the weekly dosage into daily doses.
I’d also dose double the recommended amount in a high energy heavily planted tank.
Cheerio,

Love the style and the driftwood
Nice small glassware too, brand?

The glassware is from 'Viv', I'm not sure you can get it in the UK, I picked them up in Asia.

Cheerio,

Cheers, will start from tomorrow with recommended amount and once the plant mass has increased will look to double.

So far so good with the tank, although Crypts starting to melt now. Trimming off the bad leaves but trying to not interfere too much.

Can anyone advise me on the best way to trim Vallisneria? I assume you trim from the bottom or can you trim off the tops without killing the leaf?
