A suitable moss....

I've just about set up a new tank with a rock background and a stacked rock base, that has plenty of crevices.

I've got weeping and christmas moss, but I don't think either are suitable as mine tend to detach & also grow outwards quite extensively. I think they'll end up hiding too much of the rock work.

I really want to find a moss that has a nice compact creeping type of habit. Something that will spread horizontally in the crevices, without too much projection outwards.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.🙂

Fissidens fontanus is the one you are looking for. But you will need good co2 and more patience than with your current mosses.

Thanks for all suggestions - off to research them now. Quite interesting - last year I collected some moss off the neighbours roofing tiles 😛 to use for a wabi kusa that I never got around to making. I forgot the tupperware full of it outside. Found it last week full to the brim of rainwater and the moss is growing in it submerged...never knew some mosses could do this! I won't risk it in my tanks as it'll probably rot in the warm temps, but I did feel a wabi kusa coming on when I looked at it!
Amazing how many different aquatic mosses there are. 🙂

Aye. 😳 Not quite on - but kind of leaning on it. It was on their garage roof with a shared party wall between us.
Loving moss makes one do strange things. My family get super embarrassed as I tend to get distracted by any good looking moss clump & can generally be found in a squatting position next to a good clay wall.......😱

This summer I ended up quite wet looking for some mosses in a stream... Of course the family had a very fun time 🙂
