Hi I'm new to the forum and although I have kept fish previously I was never too successful at keeping plants, I'm now at the planning stage of a new planted tank and have been doing a little research into substrates (always used plain gravel or plain sand in the past) any way to the point... I think I've decided to try moler clay when I do get going other than being so much cheaper are there any other advantages to this over specialist substrates or indeed any serious disadvantages. If I understand correctly the dedicated substrates are more nutrient loaded is this correct?
Linked to my first question I've read that I can 'fortify' the moler clay with osmacote my second question is this when people mention the osmocote I've seen no mention of the granule size is it the cone ones i should use or the single granules. also I always thought adding nutrients could feed algal blooms is this prevented by the moler clay absorbing and holding back the nutrients for the plants use
