8 G Naono Reef tank as freshwater refugium?

I'm in the process of setting up a high tech Iwagumi tank and would like to establish a small refugium for the future inhabitants and as a backup tank if the main tank gets into trouble.

All that being said, I'd like to have a refugium that still looks great, so if possible no tubes and no equipment hanging in or off the tank. Probably going to place this tank on the kitchen countertop.

Do you guys think I could turn this JBJ 8 gallon reef nano into said freshwater refugium?

It comes with build-in:

- removable 3-stage filtration
- dimmable 2-channel LED light fixture
- designated heater column

Could work dude. Make sure the flow is high near the carpets if you're going Iwagumi? Co2?

Not sure yet regarding CO2. Maybe that small ADA system and those small CO2 cartridges.

Problem with the tank is, that the output nozzle is mounted at the top and not bottom. maybe I have to modify that.

It's the flow on that tank you need to check and might better with external filter either end instead using glass lilys for minimalism. Yeah could use ADA but super expensive and those cartridges don't last long.

I recommend aquatichk on eBay for glass stuff and co2 solenoid and valve cheap, takes two weeks to arrive but soooo much cheaper and good quality stuff. Then just use a welding gas canister under a desk or cabinet, far cheaper.

I don't want cheap, I want quality.

Just trying to save you money. ADA is awfully overpriced but looks stunning. For co2 I have used both and am extremely fussy and cannot warrant the extortionate extra for the Ada model. Your money though so do as you please.

That is a nice looking tank!
I am sure you can make it work to do anything you want if you do enough studying.
What is your idea behind a refugium, how is that going to work as a benefit to your proposed Iwagumi tank?

Just in case fish gets sick or when bringing new inhabitants or when taking out shrimps when there are too many. I'd still maintain the fuge as a dedicated and good looking tank.
