Don’t have time for a paludarium-waterfall setup and really wanted to try keeping a nano crab (bucket list).

Pink hue matches purple crab, though I hate the cheapo China-made lights.

Sacrificed an Anthurium for this. Not sure if it’ll work but was hoping to get more above-water room for the lil guy. There’s also the usual suspects: Java fern, moss and anubias. Also, a mini submersible filter in the tank to keep the flow up. Not sure why, but mostly to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. Dengue season’s round the corner here.

Those eyes. Fed the dude krill flakes. Wonder what else it’ll eat.

Should I keep fish as tank mates? Water level’s about 6cm; tank’s 45x24cm. Sounds like a bad idea. Wait. Is this tank one big bad idea? Hmmm.

Research says 80:20 land:water ratio. So thought I’d make the best of my poor decision.

Added lava rocks to augment land area. Took out the large pebble.

Where’s Wally? Propped atop the left above-water roots.

No fish. Hardly any flow with the rocks in the way now. Besides, too little volume to make water parameters stable.

Vampires do best in setups that you would normally keep dart frogs in.

This set up isn’t going to work long term, I’d be genuinely surprised if your crab lasts a single molt.

Reasons:
Insufficient land
Gregarious species
No microfauna/isopods etc
No suitable substrate to dig.
Insufficient climbing room/Insufficient vertical space, this sp love to climb.
Insufficient moist to dry substrate.
