so I'm starting to build up the parts for my first planted rank and I'm after some advise on filters.

I'm planning on a 200l tank, high tech so I will have co2, also planning on inline heater.

Do I go with one filter, something like a jbl 1900 or fluval fx6. Or do I go with 2 smaller filter and split the co2

Thanks

In my opinion this is the best way to go. One powerful filter will blow the plants away and even your substrate.. promote high water flow near the outflow and lack of it in return.
You also have to consider if you intend to use Lily Pipes cause they smash a bit the filter powerhead (water flow) and what ceramics you will use.
JBL and Eheim ceramics also reduce the water flow. The best ceramics you can have are ADA Bio Rio in combination with , EQuo Stylla or Sera Siporax for not losing power filtration. (water flow) And of course they really promote the best bacteria colonization.

I have a 160 liters with a 901 JBL and Eco Pro 300 Eheim and it´s pretty cool. Very good dissolution of Co2 and my plants shaking just a bit cause of the flow.

It´s my opinion, it is worth for what it takes.

Best Regards.

I have a JBL1501 for my Juwel Vision 180, being the biggest filter that would fit "nicely" ie not chopping woodwork, removing doors etc in the tank stand. Maybe that is where you should start looking from, biggest you can fit nicely.

If you go with two filters, you will need a setup as below.

Careful with some of the bigger filters (eg JBL1900) they use bigger non standard (in the fish world) pipe sizes, 19/25mm, so you won't find a inline heater or diffuser that takes this size. You could fit a 16/22mm in line heater but why reduce the flow (30%) if you have bought a bigger filter, you might have well have just bought the 1500 version.

Thanks for the replies

Not thought about the hose sizes,

Do you have one or two filters on your tank, just thinking about the 10x turnover.

Does anyone close loop pumps ?, I could have one jbl 1500 and closed loop pump.

On my Vision 180 I have a JBL1501 and the Juwel 600l/hr internal filter and a 3200l/hr power head.

I have two filters on my 200, a Fluval 406 and a APS 2000EF. The inflows are opposite back corners and both are full(ish) length spray bar outlets ,pointed up and forward. Very similar to Ian's diagram but without the co2 or inline heater.

I also have a sponge air driven filter hidden in there but more for the fish/shrimp to graze than for any flow/filter benefit.

The flow seemed excessive at first but once the plants grew in they seem to hinder it slightly, in a good way.
