sands hard to keep clean i gave up and topped mine with gravel sounds like you need to give your tank and maybe your filter a really good clean before you give up. if you've upped co2 so it must be flow or ferts causing algae but till your clean id just lower the lights with a bit more info im sure one of the guys who really know there stuff would be able to help you
 
i like the clean tropical island look with the sand, i had a layer of black sand on top of underworld aqua grit but every time i planted something it would all mix up :rolleyes:

It's a very brave person who ever states "the tank is now complete"! Come back in a month's time, and let us know if the tank's progressed at all, or if it's still "complete"! :)
