Hi all,

Short long story, a few months ago I decided to sell my 45p setup and equipment, sadly the sale didn’t end up well due to an dishonest buyer and I lost 3 hours drive, a scape and a filter.

After this fail I decided to keep my faithful 45p and rescape it properly, hence the name of this new scape ‘phoenix’ because this one has really raised from the ashes!

Equipment:

-Viv 45p tank
-Dennerle scaper’s flow filter
-Frok T1M led unit
-Plantedbox diffuser
-Pressurized co2 24/7
-Backlight with Ada blue gradation sheet

Hardscape:

-Black Asia wood
-Black volcano and lava stones
-Dooa jungle soil and river sand

Thanks for your words guys…so next step was to flood the tank and see if everything was properly fixed and glued:

No floaters…all good.
I let it ran for 24hours before emptying it again and planting, I went very light so mainly epiphytes, bucephalandra and mosses, the only stems were a few rotala blood red leftovers.
The stems weren’t planted it the soil as their isn’t any available in the back of this scape so I used the rotala as épiphytes and just stucked them between the hardscape.

A week later, I added some more mosses; riccardia and mini Christmas moss;

Now it’s time to let it grow, I wasn’t especially happy with the right part of this scape but I decided to take my time and add elements later once the plants were more grown in.

Lights are on for 6h per day
Waterchange about 30% per week
Fertilisation is 3ml Dooa suikei liquid Daily
Co2 24/7, 1bubble every 2-3sec

Thanks! I basically selected pieces that would fit in a shop, better take more than not enough and then directly starting to assemble them in the tank at home.
This definitely requires some experience, I would recommend an diy sand box to train yourself first and avoid scratching the glass of your aquarium. 🙂

So next step was basically watching the plants growing and adding livestock;


I had some diatoms but really nothing major due to an mature filter and a nutrient low soil (Dooa river soil).

After 15 days I added a small schoal of Hyphessobrycon amandae, along with some neocaridina blue dream shrimps and caridina tiger raccoon to help cleaning the mosses;



Some cool rare stems; rotala Ramosior Florida; they grow nicely in my tap water and without soil.



Next step was to adjust the right part that doesn’t look good to me, especially the réflexion in the glass.

Time for an update, after adding the fishes it was time to tweak this right part with a new black asia wood, not an easy thing to do in a flooded environment but I’ve seen worse;



Not as distracting than before with the reflection on the right glass…time to add details to make it look more natural;



The rotala blood sg is growing fast even without soil, I had to add a bit more ferts in the water than usual to avoid deficiency, the tops are often trimmed and replanted between the roots and into the moss.

Hi there,

Next step is basically watching the plant growth in, having good tools for tidy trimmings of the mosses and delicate plants.

The rotala blood are growing very fast even used as an epiphyte, starting to mimic the fire over the forest as I wanted!

I’ve 2 pair tiger badis (badis Tigris) in there and they started to color up nicely, hoping to see some fry soon.

Thanks, about the co2, I had great success doing it so in every nano tanks of mine since 2015 when my solenoid valve broke. I feel it’s more stable this way, and I don’t do high bps with this method (about 1 bubble every 3 seconds) , I just make sure to plant heavily and keep an good surface agitation to avoid overdosing at night.
