Hi I'm using it on a slow growing planted tank....so can't vouch for growing carpet plants as this light is situated at the back of the hood! It's pretty bright at the back of the aquarium on full power. No fish in this aquarium;)

Thanks. We thought these dimensions would allow for interesting aquascapes, good sense of depth and view from 3 sides which is cool. But definitely going to be challenging to hardscape..but excited about it. I'm definitely going for an emersed area at the back on one of the corners

    Anyone had problems introducing otocinclus

Always a good idea to add some botanicals like catappa leaves when introducing ottos and similar dwarf loricariids. They’ll feed off the bio film that is produced. The issue is with these fish is that if they haven’t fed in the shop for some time then they’re too far gone by the time you get...

There's a YouTube thing from I think The Aquarium Co-Op on the journey those guys have been on before they get to the fish shops. It's pretty grim viewing. That's why I also find it stressful introducing new anything into my tank. Actually that is one of the reasons to spend so much time and...

    Anyone had problems introducing otocinclus

Hi thanks for the response. The tank has been running for about 4 months now so figured it was well cycled and mature enough. I honestly didn't see if they were feeding in the shop and they were scattered over couple of tanks so assumed they'd been there a while.

    Anyone had problems introducing otocinclus

Ottos can be fragile, they can have a hard time when they are shipped due to not being able to feed. How long has your tank been running? Ottos like very mature stable conditions. Were they feeding in the shop & can you ask what they were using? Giving them something they recognise might help...

I wouldn’t say that otto’s are hardy, they are rather delicate imho especially for the initial few weeks I have heard it said by people, that due to the losses of these fish, that they wouldn’t purchase them I have a few, they are fantastic fish, but can be problematic

Sorry to hear of this @mrhoyo Only thing I can think of would be the water company adding extra chlorine into the water system obviously its a long shot. A typical dose of Prime deals with 1ppm chlorine, if they had to emergency dose these levels could be anywhere north of 2 ~3 ppm, so lots...

It's bizarre. I've emptied the tank and refilled it, I'll leave without livestock for a while but keep changing water anyway. Hopefully that way anything on the plants gets cleaned off because they're looking really good and it would be a shame not to use them again.

Not a problem, there must be so many tanks on here! The light I have is built into the tank so not so easy to just change. If I could do it again I wouldn't buy this type of tank again it's too restricted and not easy to change without some major hacking!

Yes, sometimes it does... If we have say 30 ppm of Ca from CaCO3 you get 45 ppm of CO3. This translates into 4.2 dGH and 4.2 dKH. Notice that CaCO3 contributes equally to dGH and dKH (which seems to be confusing for many at first). Often in the hobby we have dGH and dKH decoupled, but we can...

Hi all, "Yes and no" is the answer, they are separate entities, but you can define both "1 dGH" and "1 dKH" as 17.86 mg / L of CaCO3. <"The calculations"> are all in Larry Frank's very useful post on the Krib <"Water Hardness">. cheers Darrel

You have around 13 dGh from 80ppm Calcium and 8.5ppm Magnesium. dkh is also sitting around 13 dkh from 234ppm CaC03. So fairly hard water. Edit: as above, darrel will explain it far better than I can.
