Also on water parameters worth to check the shop where you will get the chocolate gouramis. Maybe these are wild caught (this is the typical) or local breed ones. Parameters could be very different.
Salty Shrimp powders are very easy. Just need a TDS meter to measure your tank when it is needed.
Mosura Mineral Plus is good, but a bit aggressive. Easy to dose too much. Even the recommended dosage need to be added in 2-3 days splitted into portions.
At my home tank i fill back the tank from the RO. Around 130L/week. Usually my tank temperature is around 23 but now as the weather getting warmer the average water temp increased to 25.5 already. Anyway after filling in the colder RO i still get to something like 18 in the tank which quickly...
Booster pumps will not do more than your membrane could do.
The RO unit you have is a basic entry level one. Only 1 membrane 50Gal.
Maybe the unit is too old and that's why you have too much waste. Prefilters need to be replaced in every 6 months or so. membrane is 10K liter or 2-3 years max...
If you go on the RO way a larger unit would do the work easily. I have a 2 membrane unit at home with a booster pump which fills up my tank real time at water changes. So i have a pipe from the RO to the tank and takes 2 hours to complete but it's doable. At least no need a barell etc.
There...
Calibration solution is not expensive and you can use it when you're unsure everything is ok. But as others said TDS pens are usually stable. If they are decalibrated a little the difference is usually so small that even your CRS shrimps will not worry about that. Just shake down the remaining...
Don't you have an ion exchanger softenizer in your household? Your tap water isn't softened with this kind of equipment?
I've seen that before the test kit not worked in that case
I also bet for the decor stone. Also make sure your TDS meter is calibrated. It need to sometimes.
100-200 is not a problem. Some minerals can push up the TDS along the week.
These active soils has ability to stabilize the pH within normal condition.
Amazonia usually push the water to 6.7-6.8 in pH. Until you're using tap water or you have some stone decor in it there are no issues. As the water will be hard enough to keep the pH on this level.
When you go with...
The soils increase the TDS based on my measuring too. Usually a 0 RO water is pumped up to 60-80 with active soils. This happened with my Shirakura soil too.
Yup i also not experienced big pH changes with soft water. And the slower cycling was less noticable. You also can help with that with additional bacterial boosters.
We do use full RO on our planted tanks. There are no pH swings however with frequent water changes (daily for example) at the cycling you can have that. Let's say the RO produce a lower pH water and your Aqua Soil Malaya with CO2 keeps that low. We had an issue with it one time but not since...
Do not think this is about ammonia and Amazonia at all. There's something which cause the foam. However with frequent water changes and aeration at night solve the issue. Maybe the surface is not moving enough also.
i am sure not too much of you check the chlor with tests. sometimes this is intresting to see how much chlor you have in the water. Tetra 6+1 test is useful for this or the ADA Chlor test.
Most of us feels ok to not use it, if we do not see difference using or not the product.
but this is...
