We do use soft water - ro in all of our tanks. Heavy light plenty co2 daily fertilizers and water temp around 21-24 celsius. Everything thrive. Only ug hates us ;) or the soils. Since in sand and lower light goes better. I cant report a general bonsai failure and we sell quit a lot.

Not all the mosses grows easily in low conditions. Java christmas, spiky seems ok in lower light, but many others not. The above pic shows it well. Mosses are not the lowest demanding plants. Many need more light, soft water, colder water and co2 to looks nice. Also nowadays i see many cases...

Just seen that.... if this is a large tank this is an overkill, well depend on what kind of light you have. With HQI you can shoot with more, with T5 this is way too much. Not sure if this isn't a typo and the light is 2w/g only which isn't that much.

I also can confirm this plant has no problem at all with Carbo.

Lotus is a great indicator of changes. The melting was because of the different condition. I usually tell my clients that the plant will lost all of its leaves after relocation but will grow new ones shortly. Lotus is a real survivor. That's the reason why it is used in warmer discus tanks too...

Gel is better as you can use it on surfaces too like lava stones where liquids would fail because of the decor structure

Glosso is a nice carpet, however alone this does not do the trick. Once it grows in and need to trim back nothing stays there just the root system as you trim all the leaf off from the plants.... This is probably the reason why Mr. Amano frequently mix Glosso with another plant which looks...

I think clay type of substrate works rarely with this plant. Maybe more powder on the top of the soil would solve it, but the folks around us never had success with aquasoils. giving more light the plant will go too fast and will grow out of the subsrate before it settle.

Yup whatever helps to drive more CO2 to the carpet is good. Make sure you clean the diffuser frequently. As soon as the bubbles gets a little bigger the efficiency will be low even with the extra flow. Bi-weekly cleaning is recommended in this case. HC is a CO2 addict :D

With this kind of diffusion you need to put more effort to hve enough CO2 on the bottom of the tank. Sometimes this isn't as easy as it sound. Light and this CO2 issue will have effect on your HC for sure. Still it will grow in your tank, just the plant will not look in the best form.

Just checked the plant in the gallery. They are doing well with mid light, high light too with EI ferts and CO2. Probably the plant was not that fresh you had?

Limnobium is the one you need. Salvania is ok too but not that nice leaf structure. We're using Limnobium a lot in our gallery. Sometimes for it's look, other time to give some shady areas to the tank (especially at startup phase when the tank is more sensitive to algae issues)...

In some cases you just do not have chance to use riccia line. Luckily there's the glue then. :angel: Only use the GEL form to attach mosses.

As i know Mr. Amano had only a little success with this plant in the past til he started to work with Aqua Soil Amazonia. This plant require a nutrient rich substrate. I can't confirm this but we have great success with Amazonia for sure. Mark and ghostsword is right this plant not require too...

the large leaf only appear in emers form. underwater condition even with low light will not cause this plan to grow up that high. For planting just cut down the large leaf after a few cm and split this up to single plantlets. Then plant it densely. http://aquajournal.net/na/nexp/ground_cover.html

If the moss is fresh in the box you can leave it for a week without any problem in the original packaging. Just do not open that. These mosses stays very healthy in the original box for weeks in the shops. At least the Tropica ones ;)

How about Marsilea Hirsuta? That match with your specs ;)

the first pic is really not vallis nana and not cypherus too. could be some other vallis plant or something else. not v nana as it is too narrow, too dense, too straight. possibly an asian plant?

This would be the opposite thing what for example ADA ECA is for. :wink: Reddish hue usually happens with extra dosage and light as i experienced it. But a different red color (not a healthy one) could happen with less light less nutrients?

yup this is Anubias (Italy). Used utricularia and tenellus too. they were great however did not had luck with UG. tenellus i guess i still have in my large tank.

I had a huge tiger lotus in my last layout. when i rescaped the tank pulled out all the plants and roots too, as any big lotus seed i found. few weeks ago i was suprised as a new lotus grew up suddenly in the tank. i bet this was because of the spring, but was suprising as there was no big seed...

yup carbon is not the best for this purpose. i also heard that using easy carbo with brush on wood caused overdosage and also plants damaged fish died. these stuff are really heavy and real poison for your plants and fish or shrimps. i made a test and used ADA Phyton Git on my last few algae...
