Loved this plant. Unfortunatelly this is still not available for order from Tropica. Works wonderfully in a 60L tank too. Green Aqua Showroom by viktorlantos, on Flickr

    Rotala / Amannia Bonsai (Melt)

Thanks mate ;) Plants look nicer healthier. Most of them. We have 14-25 gh in our country from tap. Which is not optimal at all

    Rotala / Amannia Bonsai (Melt)

I think its great if anyone share their info, experience. No matter where they are from. We do meet with tens of thusands of plants every year zillions of stories from our clients, installations and the tanks we're running. I came here to help not to do business. Just wanted to show you a few...

    Rotala / Amannia Bonsai (Melt)

We do use soft water - ro in all of our tanks. Heavy light plenty co2 daily fertilizers and water temp around 21-24 celsius. Everything thrive. Only ug hates us ;) or the soils. Since in sand and lower light goes better. I cant report a general bonsai failure and we sell quit a lot.

    Rotala / Amannia Bonsai (Melt)

Now from keyboard, much more convenient. :) On the test issue about Tropica process. There are probably not so much nursery who has dedicated international pro team which test their plants and give useful feedback before plant goes out to the market/mass production. And before even any plant...

    Rotala / Amannia Bonsai (Melt)

I do not have problems with this plant but like all tissue plants many other factors play. By now got cold / freeze for example. Not a fresh plant in the box / on the shelf. Not carefully washed from the gel. This plant is higher demand on light and probably nutrients co2 too. We grow them in...

    Mixed species carpet??

Yup sorry at least not as aggressive like H. Tripartita or Hydrocotyle Sibthorpioides. Easy to keep it under control
  10. viktorlantos

    Mixed species carpet??

Marsilea hirsuta or Marsilea Crenata is a great one also to mix it up with your carpet. Crenata is a slow one, but looks beauty with it's tiny leaf. If you use hydrocotile use the verticillata not the tripartita and you do not have to worry about runners 180L scape with background by...

Tips for growing moss (...really beautiful moss)

If this is a fresh start tank and you plan to use bits of mosses then dry start is a great way for wood. Just check George Farmer's earlier journal on this. Awesome yoghurt story over there :) On lava this is not working the same unfortunately. My last tank is a dry start one. I used a repti...

Tips for growing moss (...really beautiful moss)

To have the best mosses out there we usually go with the following stuff: - Lots of light (many mosses looks awesome if you shoot with more). They will be bushy. Of course you need to stay on the top of your things to avoid algae. Riccardia is a light lover for sure. - Soft water like all other...

    Elatine Hydropiper carpet

To grow the real elatine hydropiper you need small grain substrate. As this plant has small and very dense root system. Green Aqua Showroom by viktorlantos, on Flickr

Elatine hydropiper aka Micranthemum sp. "Monte Carlo"

:) Almost half of the tanks had this patch. I was pissed :) Being there with a 5DMarkIII and not making photos..... eh you know :) Honestly they just opened up the gallery after our visit. They worked on the new tanks for months over the summer when they were closed. So none of these tanks...

Elatine hydropiper aka Micranthemum sp. "Monte Carlo"

HC's root is like half of the Micranthemum root system. That is the problem with HC. This is a small root plant and the roots are easily damage. Just a little heat or a thick carpet and you're done. :) I have a group of this plant which sucks :) HC, Utricularia ? ops i ran out :) And others...

    Moss what's the secret

Not all the mosses grows easily in low conditions. Java christmas, spiky seems ok in lower light, but many others not. The above pic shows it well. Mosses are not the lowest demanding plants. Many need more light, soft water, colder water and co2 to looks nice. Also nowadays i see many cases...

    Wonderful Proserpinaca palusstris cuba

Just a bit of nitrate? :) Lovely colors!
  20. viktorlantos

    Wonderful Proserpinaca palusstris cuba

Just seen that.... if this is a large tank this is an overkill, well depend on what kind of light you have. With HQI you can shoot with more, with T5 this is way too much. Not sure if this isn't a typo and the light is 2w/g only which isn't that much.
  21. viktorlantos

    Wonderful Proserpinaca palusstris cuba

This is a light demanding plant as i've seen
  22. viktorlantos

    Wonderful Proserpinaca palusstris cuba

wow your 1st photo looks very bad. On second one the plant look strong, but the color is pale. So that still not in good condition too. Here is with ATI light 4x39W over on our earlier 180L tank. Soft water, co2 diffuser, EI fert, low pH - becuse of Malaya, e.carbo daily dose

    Nymphaea Lotus not growing

I also can confirm this plant has no problem at all with Carbo.
  24. viktorlantos

    Nymphaea Lotus not growing

Lotus is a great indicator of changes. The melting was because of the different condition. I usually tell my clients that the plant will lost all of its leaves after relocation but will grow new ones shortly. Lotus is a real survivor. That's the reason why it is used in warmer discus tanks too...

Any tips for glueing moss to wood?

Gel is better as you can use it on surfaces too like lava stones where liquids would fail because of the decor structure

Plant Selection - What Would You Do ?

Glosso is a nice carpet, however alone this does not do the trick. Once it grows in and need to trim back nothing stays there just the root system as you trim all the leaf off from the plants.... This is probably the reason why Mr. Amano frequently mix Glosso with another plant which looks...

    Red leaves

I was not that lucky then. Maybe too much light keep their colors on a longer term. Or this happens lately only. We keep it for years or so only.
  28. viktorlantos

    Red leaves

Except if you have Echino Reni which stays this red forever :)
  29. viktorlantos

    Deficiency or behaviour?

Well with lower light the plan will be super tall and only leaf on the top. If it gets a bit more light or you trim it back it will be more compact. whatever you do it's a runner. you can't stop it :D i bet after 2-3 months you will think about that if it was a good idea to use it, as it's...

    Eleocharis sp mini dying

Your light is not so much for this plant. Leaf melting/browning is ok as eleocharis throws its old emers leaf after you plant it. But thats not a good sign that you haven't seen any new leaf meanwhile the old ones got brown. Marsilea is a low tech plant however grows sooooooo slowly without co2...

Bucephalandra Collection - rare plants from Borneo

Great photos! Yeah these plants are rarities. I also tried some of them earlier. So nice to see them after the crypto and mini anubias plants. Something else. Something in between. A great addition to any scape for sure and stays compact! For the UK guys you can turn to an Anubias dealer. As...

Why can`t I grow Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis

Great capture Georgi  We never dosed this much iron, but we're using EI fert model on this. I still love this plant. One of the best low maintenance plant which i do recommend to my clients. Let me add a few pic too to have it on record. This is both from the same tank which is 1...

    Tropica Anubia melt/rot

If the anubias plant was in a different condition before you bought it, it could happen. Emers versions maybe not that much, but submerged Anubias is sensitive for relocations. Not as much as crypts, but sometimes you see this on their leaf. COuld be temperature, CO2, water hardness etc. For...

    Iwagumi using UG

I think clay type of substrate works rarely with this plant. Maybe more powder on the top of the soil would solve it, but the folks around us never had success with aquasoils. giving more light the plant will go too fast and will grow out of the subsrate before it settle.
  37. viktorlantos

    Iwagumi using UG

You also can see some UG tank on our board> http://akvakertesz.hu/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=514  hard plant. need low light and sand i guess to keep it down. still you can't keep it on a long term. it will release from the soil after a few months for most of us.

    LUDWIGA ARCUATA help

There are many things which affect the color. Also many plants got deep red even with 30ppm Nitrate too or more and with lower light. So it's hard to give a good guide. Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba'/Substrate/New tank setup.

Re: Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba'/Substrate/New tank set There's a few options for a nice carpet. HC, Glosso, Marsilea, for rounded leaf Staurogyne is also an option since Tom Barr :D Parvula, Brasiliensis, Tenellus is nice for grass like carpet. Or the classic riccia which is well...

    Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba'/Substrate/New tank setup.

Re: Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba'/Substrate/New tank set You can go with regular Amazonia and just use 1cm height Powder on it. HC will love that and with the larger grains under that you can build slopes easily. KEY thing for HC is the good CO2 and lower temp, mid/high light! If you can't...

How to make my hairgrass carpet, spread and grow quicker?

Re: How to make my hairgrass carpet, spread and grow quicker If you have enought ligths on the bottom of the tank, this will work just need to wait a little. Earlier when i had this carpet i added in some bottom fertilizers to the soil. That really boosted my carpet at the beginning. I know...

    Struggling with HC

Yup whatever helps to drive more CO2 to the carpet is good. Make sure you clean the diffuser frequently. As soon as the bubbles gets a little bigger the efficiency will be low even with the extra flow. Bi-weekly cleaning is recommended in this case. HC is a CO2 addict :D
  47. viktorlantos

    Struggling with HC

With this kind of diffusion you need to put more effort to hve enough CO2 on the bottom of the tank. Sometimes this isn't as easy as it sound. Light and this CO2 issue will have effect on your HC for sure. Still it will grow in your tank, just the plant will not look in the best form.

    Issues with Ranunculus Inundatus

    Floating plants suggestion

Limnobium is the one you need. Salvania is ok too but not that nice leaf structure. We're using Limnobium a lot in our gallery. Sometimes for it's look, other time to give some shady areas to the tank (especially at startup phase when the tank is more sensitive to algae issues)...

Bolbitis leaf form looks better with different condition

Cheers guys, the reason why i opened this topic, because i kept Bolbitis for a while in many tanks. They usually looked the same everywhere. Why can`t I grow Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis

As i know Mr. Amano had only a little success with this plant in the past til he started to work with Aqua Soil Amazonia. This plant require a nutrient rich substrate. Marsilea hirsuta advice?

the large leaf only appear in emers form. underwater condition even with low light will not cause this plan to grow up that high. For planting just cut down the large leaf after a few cm and split this up to single plantlets. Then plant it densely. http://aquajournal.net/na/nexp/ground_cover.html
  54. viktorlantos

    Vesicularia ferriei 'Weeping'

If the moss is fresh in the box you can leave it for a week without any problem in the original packaging. Just do not open that. These mosses stays very healthy in the original box for weeks in the shops. At least the Tropica ones ;)

    Super red Blyxa japonica

This would be the opposite thing what for example ADA ECA is for. Reddish hue usually happens with extra dosage and light as i experienced it. But a different red color (not a healthy one) could happen with less light less nutrients?

"vitro cup" plants. anyone tried them?

    Is this Microsorum 'narrow'

However this is not the Narrow Tropica label, but the plant looks really to Narrow to me. Tropica plants arrive with large leaves. So do not worry about that.
