Help! trying to plant in ADA Amazonia substrate

If you watch an ada video you frequently see how they are showering (not sure is this the right word) the soil before the planting to make it denser. Worth to try next time ;)

Substrate with additives v complete substrate

I agree, but i often see people took the general EI way. And this adjustment is missing if the nutrient demand is much lower. For example no CO2, low light tank, but EI. For a beginner this isn't clear how much to dose with the EI type of fertilizers this way. On the top of that when we see only...

Substrate with additives v complete substrate

All depend on what is your goal. For example if you're not using high light why would you use EI? If there would not be carpeting plants or any plants in the soil then why a substrate would be needed? If you're away frequently on long weekends then why would you go on a speedie growth way? :)...

    "New Amazonia"

Strange we've got a large shipment last year around summer, another large one the the beginning of this year. Both shipment had several tons from this soil and i not seen similar issues. But maybe you got another production batch. Do not know. We mainly use it with soft water, but our...

    "New Amazonia"

There will be mixed feedback all the time. This was the same in the old age with Amazonia and Amazonia II. The net was full with them. This is how the substrate works sometime. I got some reports when soils got mud, got lots of algae etc. There are different scenarios so this may can happen...

    Aqua Soil Africana

Yeah the tank is young now. So the start was easy, but as most of the algae comes for different reason and in different age of a tank, you probably will meet them anyway. The substrate made the start easier. But later on watch out for the big pH swings. This isn't good for fishes. So better to...

    Aqua Soil Africana

There are differences using clear (non fertilized clays). The number 1 is the water clearness. Amazonia is a great value, but for a beginner it could be challenging sometimes. In the first weeks this colorize the water. Africana not. With africana you will have such a clear water than you would...

    ADA Amazonia and discus?

One of our client uses Amazonia Powder as a soil for a 800L discus tank. Plants and Discus love it. She used Marsilea Hirsuta as a carpet plant there which gives a great green color even in a deep tank with low light and a bit of co2.

    How Effective is ADA Powersand?

Tom, the reason why i wrote that earlier, because i've seen that a couple times that Aqua Soil Amazonia itself slows down the growth after a few months. Even with EI. If i boost the soils with bottom fertilizers then the carpeting plants will swich up to the next gear again. Experienced this...

    How Effective is ADA Powersand?

Tom just a quick question popped up to my head :) Isn't the case you do not see difference because you change your plants too frequently? :)

    Ada Malaya or Africana

If you plant to use soft water, then Malaya may need more care. It's lower the pH in the tank. So sometime may need to increase the pH then. On the other hand we had a nice Agassizi colony there becasue of this. ;) Both soil is fine and makes your water super clear.

    ADA Aquasoil

In a heavily planted tank a substrate will help to grow plants quicker. The soil will not deteriorate in shape. I just cleaned up my 3yrs old Amazonia and was still perfect to reuse after that. You need to wash it a couple times to remove the mud, but the majority of the soil will be reusable...

    New Aqua Soil Amazonia (Multi-Type)

I just got a sample bag from ADA. Looks very good for small tanks, but as they say it's limited quantity only. So if this runs out there will be no more. Well maybe they change their minds if the market demand grows. But really a nice size substrate. Would love to use it under 60p tanks.

    Substrate confusion!!

it is up to you. i usually ask whoever is intrested in soil from us, how much energy you are willing to put into it. there are soils what need to be prewashed many times and the other which not required. frankly i hate to wash the soils. rather put this energy to the scaping process. but these...

ada aquasoil . a few questions

This tank is like a month old or so. With the last trimming this has become completed with AS. With frequent water changes at the beggining you can solve most of the issues. JBL Manado any good?

As i read that on some forums the manufacturer said that if you pre-wash the soil in warm water, the initial water hardening time could be reduced. for sensitive species i would use something else, but for the rest could be ok.

    ADA substrate and additives

yup and as nayr88 said, their root tabs works perfect. no need to worry about growing problems. we used the iron and the multi bottom tabs with amazing results after a year too. i do not think any of the clay soil act differently on long term. mean last longer on nutrients etc.

    ADA substrate and additives

well, i think this is not fair to say there are no algae if you go with the ADA way. maybe if you watch carefully many other stuff like the initial period with less light, carbon filtration on the first weeks frequent water changes. ADA ferts has less nutrients in it so its not like EI. You...

How long do you keep usng your ADA Aquasoil...

Used my old Amazonia at the current rescape: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=8032 The only thing i did is sucked the powder (mud) from the top of the old substrate and added in a bag of new soil. performed well with the plants. But also added in bottom fertilizers. This way i keep using the same soil with...

    New setup - JBL Aquabasis

Yeah this Manado is easier to float at the begining, but still you can plant anything in it. We have many tanks in Hungary which uses this type of soil. They are doing ok. Even the water hardening not appear for them after a week or so. However shrimp breeders are not using it. You can wash...

    Shirakura Red Bee Sand

This is a great soil. For shrimps this is ideal. They breed easily. We sold some earlier to local breeders but as i know this is successful in germany too. and they are very good in shrimps. so if there's a local source this worth a try.
