Red cherry shrimp, do they smell?

Got any algae issues Ryan ? My tanks mostly smell a bit off if I have any blue green algae.

    New bugs and sick fish

The bugs look like limpets, harmless I believe, so not the cause of fish death IMO.

    Tropica system 60

http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/cheap-pressurised-co2-system-diy-guide.7696/ Link above is worth a read, it's still the best, cheap system I've come across, I used this setup for a year or two on my small tanks without issue.

    Shrimp ID

Looks like a male to me Marcel, they generally are less colourful than the females almost opaque at times, at least you should be good for shrimp lets at sometime.

COuld you recommend me a snail? Requirements in thread text

Why do you want snails ? If part of a clean up crew for algae Rams are great IMO they won't fare well in softwater or co2 injected tanks IMO, as stated they don't reproduce to fast if they aren't over fed.

Is heat patch really necessary ?

+1 if you weren't using a heat pack, I wouldn't buy from you this time of year.

    Nerite Snails in high tech

I've had a few hitch hike on plants etc, London tap water (hard water) co2 tanks they never last long, generally they just don't grow.
  8. tim

    Nerite Snails in high tech

So even though my waters acidic for approx 8 hours a day through co2 injection this would be enough to stop snail growth or inhibit their use of the calcium in the water ?
  9. tim

    Nerite Snails in high tech

Does injecting co2 soften the water ? Surely if you have hard water to start with the nerite would fare better in the tank, the source water negating the effects of the co2 injection ? Interested as I have a few ramshorns that never seem to grow in my co2 injected tanks.

    Mad shrimps after water change

maybe chuck some carbon in the filter along with daily w/cs jordi, shrimp and pesticides are not a good mix, accidents happen though mate :-(

Dragon Stone and Crystal Red/Bee Shrimp

Also worth noting there is dragon stone which is clay based (I think) brown holey rock it's similar but lime stone (I think) so could possibly raise tds. Don't quote me on this though.
  12. tim

Dragon Stone and Crystal Red/Bee Shrimp

Dragonstone should be inert as is unipac petrified wood another nice choice IMO.

    shrimp and Columbian tetra.

Ime most fish will pick off babies, natural food source for a lot of species but if your tanks well planted neocardinias especially breed well enough to keep the population thriving.

    Shrimp Losses, Normal?

If it's just the exoskeleton your finding this is your shrimp moulting and is normal when shrimp grow.

    Introducing Amano shrimp into tank

Interesting, I've had issues with both fish and shrimp additions this way, if drip them over a couple of hours they seem to settle well with co2 on, go figure

    Introducing Amano shrimp into tank

Best way to add livestock especially shrimp is to drip acclimatise them over a few hours, shrimp in bucket and start a slow drip from tank with some airline with a knot in it to slow flow down is the easiest way, use a clothes peg to keep the airline in place, I use my tds meter to match tank...

    Shrimp Safe Inlet Height

Makes no odds really Richard ime shrimp by nature like to graze on the crud that's attracted to the inlet, babies will be sucked into the filter and you can fish them out when you clean it, juveniles of a certain size seem to get stuck where as adults seem to be able to push themselves off.
  22. tim

    No amano shrimp anywhere

Seasonal maybe due to them not being easy to breed.

Water changes on a 20L Shrimp Tank.

Little and often is best with nanos IMO mark maybe stick with 2liters but maybe 2-3 times weekly, as Darren stated always match temp and Tds if you have a meter, no need for liquid carbon for the plants you have as long as your not over doing lighting a little ferts won't hurt though we all...

How much harder is it to maintain water parameters with a small tank

I've kept shrimp in a 12 ltr the past couple of years and tbh it's difficult keeping stable params also cleaning the tank creates its own challenges due to not wanting to change too much water at once, i will eventually upgrade my 12 ltr to at least 30 Ltrs. I've found my shrimp survive rather...

    Anubis Nana & Shrimps Myth?

Chucked some freshly trimmed anubias bonsai in my 12 ltr shrimp nano yesterday so far no deaths and the shrimps have been picking away at the freshly trimmed roots for about 12 hours now.

Your Opinion please on adding RCS to a CRS tank

My missus said over my dead body once, I told her I'd use the coffin as a cabinet for a few small tanks
  28. tim

Your Opinion please on adding RCS to a CRS tank

Rolymo, I think your heading for another shrimp nano ;-) for what it's worth ime neocardinias and cardinas can be kept in the same tanks but ultimately 1 species won't be happy.

    What size shrimp tank?

Thanks fishy DiD, it's not all been bad my cbs bred but on lfs advice I added a Siamese fighter you can guess the out come lol, cherries in my 3ft breed regularly but fish keep the population in check, I'll also add whit pearls to the list which I kept and bred quite succefully until the wife...

    What size shrimp tank?

Hey fishy, I've tried crs,cbs pre ukaps cherries blue Jellies and I've currently got a few tiger shrimp and 1 blue jelly remaining this has been over a 3 1/2 year period so I'm leaning towards inexperience and too small a water volume, we'll see when I upgrade the tank if I'm more successful ? ?
  31. tim

    What size shrimp tank?

I have a 12 ltr dedicated shrimp tank and although it looks ok the little fellas haven't thrived, soon as possible the tank will be upgraded to at least 30 if not 60 liters.
  32. tim

What shrimp can I get next?

Hi roly, you could give tigers a shot but ime as you move into the more specialist shrimp they are a lot more fussy, maybe it's time for another tank :-)
  33. tim

    Snails

You'll probably end up with some coming in on plants that's how I got mine :-) they do breed fast but are controllable with good maintenance and not over feeding etc.

    Eggs dropped

Same as rcs so ill aim for 30 days of twice daily water changes then, managed to trim the moss they were on and move them to the tub without dropping any or any contact with air (would it make a difference:lol:) do you guys think I should add an air line to keep the water moving in the tub ?
  36. tim

    Eggs dropped

Spotted her yesterday so I would say not long at all maybe a day or two, they seem to get more attention than my kids according to my wife  I will try that then how long is it normally before hatching a few weeks ? Thanks again for the advice.
  37. tim

    Eggs dropped

Hi mike, they were fairly small when I got them couple of months ago, looking at her yesterday it was hard for her to hang on to them there seemed just too many eggs for her size, you think it's better to leave them in tank to try and hatch them. Thanks for the vote of confidence mark :-) I try...

The Great Cherry Red Shrimp Die Off

Do Amano shrimp have a minimum group size?

Will you be able to rehouse the amano at a later date ime they can out compete other dwarf shrimp for food.

    CBS & CRS ?

I was in there today think they only had a couple of crs left do you shop there often mafoo ?
  48. tim

    Shrimp tank size?

Personally I wouldn't keep shrimp in something that small because its hard to keep stable parameters for them, I used to keep cherries in a fluval spec 7 liter and I lost a few:-( just my opinion though.

will shrimp kill each other if hungry enough?

Bacterial infection maybe, I'm not that experienced myself with shrimp small regular water changes is about all I could recommend, does sound more bacterial if they are dying off slowly :-(
  53. tim

will shrimp kill each other if hungry enough?

lindy how long after your rescape did you add the shrimp, ada amazonia leaches ammonia hopefully this is not the problem but as basil stated the rest of your params and maintainence seems spot on hope you overcome your problems :(

    Understanding water quality for shrimp

Hey mate, I'm pretty clueless about the above but I've been successful with my shrimp since using a mix of ro and tap water. Not sure about grades TBH mate these were 5 quid each at my local MA but I got the 3 for a tenner after a bit of haggling, care wise about the same as cherries, I dunno if you could mix with cherries think they would cross breed
