Got any algae issues Ryan ? My tanks mostly smell a bit off if I have any blue green algae.

The bugs look like limpets, harmless I believe, so not the cause of fish death IMO.

Looks like a male to me Marcel, they generally are less colourful than the females almost opaque at times, at least you should be good for shrimp lets at sometime.

Why do you want snails ? If part of a clean up crew for algae Rams are great IMO they won't fare well in softwater or co2 injected tanks IMO, as stated they don't reproduce to fast if they aren't over fed.

+1 if you weren't using a heat pack, I wouldn't buy from you this time of year.

I've had a few hitch hike on plants etc, London tap water (hard water) co2 tanks they never last long, generally they just don't grow.

So even though my waters acidic for approx 8 hours a day through co2 injection this would be enough to stop snail growth or inhibit their use of the calcium in the water ?

Does injecting co2 soften the water ? Surely if you have hard water to start with the nerite would fare better in the tank, the source water negating the effects of the co2 injection ? Interested as I have a few ramshorns that never seem to grow in my co2 injected tanks.

maybe chuck some carbon in the filter along with daily w/cs jordi, shrimp and pesticides are not a good mix, accidents happen though mate :-(

Also worth noting there is dragon stone which is clay based (I think) brown holey rock it's similar but lime stone (I think) so could possibly raise tds. Don't quote me on this though.

Dragonstone should be inert as is unipac petrified wood another nice choice IMO.

Ime most fish will pick off babies, natural food source for a lot of species but if your tanks well planted neocardinias especially breed well enough to keep the population thriving.

If it's just the exoskeleton your finding this is your shrimp moulting and is normal when shrimp grow.

Interesting, I've had issues with both fish and shrimp additions this way, if drip them over a couple of hours they seem to settle well with co2 on, go figure :lol:

Best way to add livestock especially shrimp is to drip acclimatise them over a few hours, shrimp in bucket and start a slow drip from tank with some airline with a knot in it to slow flow down is the easiest way, use a clothes peg to keep the airline in place, I use my tds meter to match tank...

Makes no odds really Richard ime shrimp by nature like to graze on the crud that's attracted to the inlet, babies will be sucked into the filter and you can fish them out when you clean it, juveniles of a certain size seem to get stuck where as adults seem to be able to push themselves off.

Seasonal maybe due to them not being easy to breed.

Chucked some freshly trimmed anubias bonsai in my 12 ltr shrimp nano yesterday so far no deaths and the shrimps have been picking away at the freshly trimmed roots for about 12 hours now.

My missus said over my dead body once, I told her I'd use the coffin as a cabinet for a few small tanks :lol:

Rolymo, I think your heading for another shrimp nano ;-) for what it's worth ime neocardinias and cardinas can be kept in the same tanks but ultimately 1 species won't be happy.

Thanks fishy DiD, it's not all been bad my cbs bred but on lfs advice I added a Siamese fighter you can guess the out come lol, cherries in my 3ft breed regularly but fish keep the population in check, I'll also add whit pearls to the list which I kept and bred quite succefully until the wife...

Hey fishy, I've tried crs,cbs pre ukaps cherries blue Jellies and I've currently got a few tiger shrimp and 1 blue jelly remaining this has been over a 3 1/2 year period so I'm leaning towards inexperience and too small a water volume, we'll see when I upgrade the tank if I'm more successful ? ?

I have a 12 ltr dedicated shrimp tank and although it looks ok the little fellas haven't thrived, soon as possible the tank will be upgraded to at least 30 if not 60 liters.

Hi roly, you could give tigers a shot but ime as you move into the more specialist shrimp they are a lot more fussy, maybe it's time for another tank :-)

You'll probably end up with some coming in on plants that's how I got mine :-) they do breed fast but are controllable with good maintenance and not over feeding etc.

Same as rcs so ill aim for 30 days of twice daily water changes then, managed to trim the moss they were on and move them to the tub without dropping any or any contact with air (would it make a difference:lol:) do you guys think I should add an air line to keep the water moving in the tub ?

Personally I wouldn't keep shrimp in something that small because its hard to keep stable parameters for them, I used to keep cherries in a fluval spec 7 liter and I lost a few:-( just my opinion though.

Bacterial infection maybe, I'm not that experienced myself with shrimp small regular water changes is about all I could recommend, does sound more bacterial if they are dying off slowly :-(

lindy how long after your rescape did you add the shrimp, ada amazonia leaches ammonia hopefully this is not the problem but as basil stated the rest of your params and maintainence seems spot on hope you overcome your problems :(

so, waterchange yesterday so had a little look in the filter bag and no eggs, couldn't see any shrimplets either but turned bag inside out and shook moss back into the tank just to be sure, question is this, having a little look at the tank last night and there was tiny little white specs moving...

They are still in there at the moment no shrimplets yet, I'll maybe leave them for another week or so and see what happens cheers :-)

Not sure about grades TBH mate these were 5 quid each at my local MA but I got the 3 for a tenner after a bit of haggling, care wise about the same as cherries, I dunno if you could mix with cherries think they would cross breed

cheers for that basil, i've managed to detach the moss they were hanging onto into a filter bag,i'll keep that suspended under the hob filter so hopefully plenty of oxygen and same water params. will post what happens :thumbup:

hi, i've had a nice little colony of snowball shrimp going strong for a few months now and noticed a couple of days ago a berried shrimp has dropped some eggs (apologies for poor pic) I'll be doing some more reasearch into possible reasons for this, please anyone on here feel free to chime in...

i do 30%ish twice a week on my nano in my sig mate tried 50% once a week and the shrimp seemed to go a bit scatty seem ok with the approach im taking at the moment try and find a routine that works for you and your tank is the advice i'd give :thumbup:

if you build up the group of cherry shrimp they will probably breed in my shrimp nano in my sig i have 6 adult cherries and id say a good 30 offspring now probably 3 generations its a 12 ltr nano shrimp dont create much bioload i feed them once or twice a week and let them clean the tank and...

i honestly have to agree with darren frederick 15ltrs is small for the livestock you have in there mate i would recomend you move these to your 180ltr if you can and maybe get a few cherry shrimp depending on the tds of your water co2 isnt needed for the plants you have maybe add some moss too...

just a question for experts scientifically minded people would the need for saltwater for shrimps food to thrive be possible in an ei tank as they are salts we add to the tank as ferts possible ?
