What canister for my 44g discus tank ? How wide is the eheim 2217

Eheim still have a good reputation here in Europe. China has been in mass manufacturing for many years now and just like people used write off Japanese goods in the 70s and 80s, it was only about teething problems in an industry which once matured was as good as any could be. Eheim have a...

    Gyre pumps?

Wow that's pretty powerful, but tbh the wattage ratings seemed fairly high, I would be glad to turn it down, lower leccy but good water movement. In terms of co2 distribution these look like they would carry the CO2 to the substrate more efficiently. The actual models going to market are black...

    Gyre pumps?

Earth calling Clive , I was wondering whether these kind of pumps may be better for CO2 distribution in large tanks over the usual power head. Anyone use them?

Cloudy water - a little trick

Yes, well one 2080 and one 2180, both already have inline co2 mixers and the 2080 and inline hydor heater. I have not been particularly good at hoovering detritus of the substrate, unless it is actually the substrate that is causing the issue. I used ADA amazonia in the main, but also Tropica...

Cloudy water - a little trick

I have done exactly the same and I am still having particle issues, but I am not sure the sock idea will be the right thing because of the affect on filter flow. I guess it also will require you to clean it every week?

Eheim Pro 3 - worst Eheim ever?

In my experience these have been good filters. I have some running since 2008 with no problems. I could only think on the lines of Nathaniel in regards to seals...I'm stumped.

16/22 mm Clear tubing for external filiters

Even Eheim hose goes a funny opaque colour under water after some time. I am not sure there is a hose that stays permanently clear, apart from detritus build up. Anyone?

    TETRATEC EX 1200 General consensus?

I am not a fan. I liked them to start with, but both I had suffered what seems to be a known leaking issue. I thought they had sorted this as a company, but i still hear this happening to people who buy them. Bear in mind this is probably only a minority of filters they produce. Very good...

    Tetratec replacement advice?

I used to keep Tetratec 1200s, but had issues with one leaking and the other was ok for 18 months. I prefer to use the Eheim despite the extra expense. High quality and high efficiency. I am talking 2080/2180 league though.

    Eheim 2080 for a 350L tank ??

Hi, yes I inject CO2, so as others have said the filter will be great for your set up.

I use a single 2180 on a 700 litre but this is coupled with 2x powerheads to increase the turnover.

Ditto. If you have space and money, not much point going smaller. I would say FX5 is runner up, but with some distance. This more to do with power consumption and pipe compatibility though.

Eheim Electronic Filter Professional 3E 700 2078 opinions?

Re: Eheim Electronic Filter Professional 3E 700 2078 opinion It is worth checking ebay sometimes. I got a brand new 2180 for £200, it would have been cheaper save for the last min bids.

    Philips Aquarium Purifier

Thanks Clive. I had read that link before when deciding whether to use it or not. I think the guy did slate aquamedic, but im not sure exactly why. intresting site

I had seen some reference to these filters not long ago on an american site. I dont think I would use these filters in a display tank, but they look like they could be a good possibilty in the likes of breeding tanks. What is the great thing about them though? It seems to me more about the...

    Philips Aquarium Purifier

Just to caveat, UV sterilizers (and not purifier) is good as long as you keep the sleeves clean and replace the bulbs. Actually Clive, just to confirm with your thoughts, unlike lighting for plants, one does have to replace the UV bulb every 6 months or so ( if on 24/7) for sterilisation to...

    Purigen

Therefore inorganic nitrates in the...

    external for 60 litre tank

I use an eheim picco pro 130 rated 500 lph. Eheims tend to be amongst the higher end for efficiency both in terms energy usage and relative to rated turn over. Tend to be a little higher initial cost. Imo worth it, but we all have our preferences.

    Vecton V2 400 Steriliser

16/22 mm Clear tubing for external filiters

Oh yeah! Thanks. I was looking under hose size and missed it for some reason...it was quite late. However I would actually advise people against this hose if they are expecting it to remain clear under water. I bought 50m of this last year and use it on my filters and as a hose for water...

    KISS large sump filter design

I had a durso on my reef tank, you have to tweak it to reach that sweet spot where it is much quieter, but I still find a lot louder than quality external filters. However someone did assure me that they can be made very quiet. I am not convinced yet though.

    NA ADA Tank filtration...

30-40 PAR at subtrate typically. I remeber this from one of Tom Barr's experiments taking readings from several tanks back in 2008. 70 upwards at the substrate is where things get demanding interms of balancing co2,light nutrients etc. I think that is more your high light territory.

    TetraTec EX 2400 - review

Right, thats not good Tetratec are renowned for their great customer services, but then they should really have sorted the leaking issues out which numerous people including myself have had with the ex1200. TTEX1200 flow with equipement?

Yes, that was the other point I was going to make, dont get too het up about flow to start with. You could just go with what you have an play it by how...

I use to filters orignally 2x tetratec1200s for taking the inline heaters and co2 via two reactors. I dont know how much they affect the flow, but i am sure they have some impact, if small. I use other filters and powerheads in addition to make up/ensure good flow. In your case I would use...

I have both 2080 and FX5 on the same tank. Both are good had not probs for nearly two years. Fx5 higher flow, cheaper to buy, but with uglier black 1" ripped pipes, which might not be an issue depending on visibility. 2080 well its an Eheim, great reputation, it has twice the media capacity...

    sump filtration

Ok so if yoyu are injecting co2 it will probably lost alot quicker when using a sump becuase the concentration is higher in the water than the atmosphere and the greater turbulance in the sump releases it faster. I am just wondering about this becuase I am thinking about a future setup and...
