For me DSM was a bit of a nightmare with HC as only about half of it established itself with the other half melting. Was ok when I added water though. I'd say that it is the fact you are trying to grow it in play sand.

People are talking about growing mosses in jars on the windowsill in tap water, would it not be more beneficial to use tank water that has added ferts in, surly this would aid growth compared to inert tap water.
