Well you might consider a sponge filter with air pump and or air stone to run at night, when plant's are using up oxygen. More oxygen also at lower temps than warmer . Some literature on these fishes suggest that hey need half year of warmer temps say during winter month's, and cooler temps...

Good oxygen more important for bacteria colony and heavy load that these fishes represent.

I might would use large smooth river stones to help hold the wood down until it becomes water logged . Lot's of anubia and or bucephalandra attached to the wood with the super glue. Stem plant's might be hard to keep in place with the actions of the catfish and loach while foraging for foods or...

I have found that cutting a cardboard template the same size as the bottom glass (trace around the tank),helps me to arrange the rocks or wood on the template until I see something I like. I normally do this on a table which is close to eye level from a chair seated next to the table.

I like the tank very much for the focus is on the Discus and Angelfish. Plus One for selecting Adult fish that do not need near the amount of high protein food's for growth, and way fewer water changes to export the organic input.

I noted the time it took for drop checker to turn green/lime green in last set up, and now it takes less time? Have you tried turning the gas on earlier?Say an hour or two before light's?

Would just about fly over and pick you up to come here to U.S. and attach some moss to some wood for me (look's great) But my arm's are too sore from shoveling snow. My own attempt's at attaching moss have been well,,, much less attractive.

Larger volume of water will remain more stable than smaller volume. 2.4 gal would make nice shrimp environment ,but would in my view be too small for even a single Betta.

Glad you swapped out the crypt that was in back corner .It just didn't look right and too close to glass. Very much like the replacement plant but don't know plant's well enough to name it.

Might consider raising the 150w metal halide a bit higher than 10cm if starting with plant's before LED fixture is utilized . Can alway's lower the light once plant's have adapted from emmersed growth to submerged, and unless starting with CO2 injection,,the Metal halide might prove too much...

Sword plant's don't appear to be doing too well. Perhaps a couple root tabs near these? Or could opt for Crypt Balansae that would achive tall growth but perhaps not as broad leafed? I like the tank overall. :thumbup:

I am wondering if the Ehiem 2217 might not be a bit much for roughly 11 Gal tank? I think the inline heater, and possibly atomizer might slow the flow a bit but still would be quite a bit of water movement for micro fishes that one might be considering. Maybe it's just me,,I run one Eheim...

Pleased to see such a handsome tank with numerous fishes as opposed to the usual Ten or twelve cardinals,rasboras,etc. Do share your plans for catching the cichlids in such a tank :crazy:

Just be sure the tank is level before the guy who helps you lift it gets away and before too much substrate is placed. :clap:

I have in fact used just such materials in tanks with dwarf cichlids. Also employed the use of orchid pots in much the same way for Kuhlii loaches. Java Fern and moss readily attach to these materials. I love it! :thumbup:
