    Now for something very different

You do not want the N or P to bottom out..........then the refugium macros die off and make a mess. So you feed a bit more. Water changes can reduce the need for supplements and Calcium etc.............but dosing those a bit in conjunction with water changes...........now you have more...

    Now for something very different

Macro algae tank is a touchier to take a pic of except during late at night.Too many reflections. House is full of them.

    Now for something very different

I've taken care of reefs for client's for some time, and marine fish tanks. But I've had a few starts on macro tanks, cold water systems etc, and nothing really excited me all that much, macro algae did............but I wanted something else. So I seem to have finally got bitten by the reef bug...

    Canon 6D

Well, a fast lens is nice, but a sharp lens is better. A lens you use often, the best. The 24-70 mm 2.8 is a nice one, the 16-35 mm 2.8 is a good one for aquariums. I have several longer L's, but they are large and I rarely ever have a need for them. General lens, macros and wide angle. The...

    Canon 6D

Point is, the lens and other equipment are updated, but not like the camera bodies. In 2-3 years, the Canon 5DMKII I have is already out of date comparatively. This is good however, you can buy one of those for much less than when they 1st hit the market, they are still an awesome full sized CCD...

    Canon 6D

Then in 2 years, you'll want the new Canon D12. At least all my flashes and nice L lens will still work on them:)

    Ultra-wide angle (UWA) and aquascaping

I'm pretty sure you should be able to make adjustments in pre and in post processing to get real nice tank images with the camera you have. I spend more time just getting the quick pic up and not doing a photo shoot, I'm mildly interested.....but.........a bit lazy/unmotivated there. My old...

    Ultra-wide angle (UWA) and aquascaping

Film is far more true on many levels than digital images which require post processing, I just had this conservation with 2 professional photographers here. Amano, Clive Butcher, Ansel Adam's etc, they are large format old school photographers. You need to do little/no white balance adjustment...

    Ultra-wide angle (UWA) and aquascaping

Well, you need to be good at photography and aquascaping both. I like the Canon 16-35 lens. It's pretty good but perhaps a fix fL lens might do well in that 12-20mm range.

    Ultra-wide angle (UWA) and aquascaping

Since these ARE photo contest and photos are art, another layer on which to promote and support the hobby........like being a good plumber.........also makes you a good aquarist..........a good photo shoot can recoup the $$$, make you look better than you are:) But it is art............it is...

    Ultra-wide angle (UWA) and aquascaping

I love the UWL zoom canon 16-35mm EF, the Tonkia 12-24mm is not bad either. I have not used the Sigma 12-24mm, it does not work on my full sized sensors. I think it's more important than most any other aquarium lens, same for Real Estate pics, interior homes etc, small places, nature pics etc...

    24-105L and wedding samples

The 24-105 is one of my main lens. I had a 100-400IS USM, big, heavy, hardly ever used it, good for sports, critter pics, not much else. Sold it. The 16-35mm and the 17-40mm are really good lens for aquariums, the extra wide is well worth the $ given what you do. The 100mm macro 1:1 is the...

The swamp cloud forest of the Alaka'i Kauai, HW, use

I've had the good fortune to travel to windly different places, but I'm amazed at plants and scape ideas at each location. Say here: Or here, below sea level in the hottest place on earth, or darn near close to it: Or a swamp spring in Florida: Hard to argue the beauty of each ecosystem...

The swamp cloud forest of the Alaka'i Kauai, HW, use

Yes, not bad skeeters either. The rain makes it hard for them to bite. Rain also washes off repellent  No snakes, or other vermin. Other things can kill you, some fool fell off a 400ft cliff trying to get something he dropped the day after this hike. 4 folks drown trying to swim...

The swamp cloud forest of the Alaka'i Kauai, HW, use

I figure after visiting this place, I'd share the greenery and tropics. This is the wettest place on earth, roughly 451 inches per year average. Or 1146 cm per year. This is the hike to the swamp: About 1400 meters looking down at the Na Pali coast. Waimea canyon above. Mosses and fern...

    10-20mm lens for full-tank shots?

The Canon 17-40mm is good option for the $ and really well made/sharp, the Sigma 21 or 24 mm is a good lens. You really just have to try them out, zoom in at edges and corners and see how well the lens do. 17-40 full sensor sizing is really a good lens. Low light is not an issue for you in most...

    10-20mm lens for full-tank shots?

I do not like the sigma, they are okay for the $. The Canon $$$$$ lens are worth it IMO when it comes to wider angles. You can take a pix and then zoom in on a nice contrasted leaf on the edges to see how well the lens performs by zooming on the LCD on the back. Keep zooming till you start to...

    Grey Squirrel

Little bastards. Hate them. Dig up my Bonasi trying to bury and fetch acorns. The other 1/2 said I could not shoot them, so a trap went out. I'm quite the expert Squirrel trapper these days, bags 22 so far. I take them out a miles from here and let them go. Taste good though. I use bread with...

    A New York Moment

May as well come to the USA, Still Prez Bush has driven the dollar down 41% over his 7.5678 years (and counting) tenure. So your pounds will buy a lot here. NYC is neat, but the West Coast has nicer water falls(many more and much higher), but Niagara is awesome. Weather here is a lot nicer...
