Patch for now, as I think it's all OK, next time around it will be a new opti-white tank, opti-white wasn't used that much then, and yes it does have a few 'painful' scratches.

Large water change and things seems stable now. Have dropped the water level and left things for the night. It looks like I had opened the CO2 valve too much and it's been on all day. The Corys seem OK though. Thanks for the help

changed a little of the media and cleaned it out. I only changed about 20% of the water, yesterday. I can only think it's got something to do with the gas. Could have possibly been on all night, and just wondering whether the canister is actually filled with CO2?

Assasins worked for me too, put six into my 270l and they keep the pesky snails under control. I think the heat has done some damage to them as well, since the hot weather I've definitely got less. And I've not seen any damage to my shrimp population either.

The first time I'd noticed them was on a dead Cory, then within a day I had about 30 dotted around on the glass (light grey, about 2-3mm long and moving in S shape on glass) since then have not seen them on the glass but will check with the magnifying glass tonight.

Great! Here goes... going in the filter now... looking forward to cleaner water. And I believe I can rinse it in bleach to regenerate it, sounds a little worrying using bleach but is that the case?

I noticed a lot of aquascapers in competitons using Purigen to clean the water. Is it safe to go in an existing tank to clear the water or will it effect other things? Any advice would be appreciated but I drop a sachet into my filter.

Re: How much time do people spend actually watching their ta I probably spend more time working on it than looking at it, but enjoy both. Have just bought a magnifying glass and this is proving very popular with the kids, would recommend it. They're now really into checking out the shrimps.
