    Amazon biotope

1200!!! Siiiiiiiickkkkkkk lol Discus and angel fish are nice. I still think I'd be tempted for a major majooooooor apisto tank with a huge gang of tetras or similar. Tons of otto's too... If you go into TGM and go through the plant list it tells you where they are from :)
  13. nayr88

    Amazon biotope

High or low tech? What fish are you planning on keeping? I would love to see the planting really simple with 1 or 2 species and a floating plant with a whole load of leaf litter and some large roots. An apistograma with female harem, small group of cory sterbai and schooling fish to keep...

Plant Selection - What Would You Do ?

That's a good point made by Viktor with trimming. It can look horrific after a big trim. Which again I guess this is why amano mixes with riccia. I think Glosso or hydropiper mixed with some so Japan would look really nice
  23. nayr88

Plant Selection - What Would You Do ?

Glosso is really easy, I've not had much luck with HC, I should try again though tbh as it's been a while. Glosso looks good with a few spots of riccia close to the staury. Have a look at some ADA 60p I think it is, ill have a search and post an example.
  24. nayr88

Plant Selection - What Would You Do ?

That wood is so nice!!!! Good fine there mate. 60cm tanks are my favourite, really good size to scape. Here's my list. 1. Glosso. great carpet plant and IMO looks just as good as HC but without the stress 2. Staurogyne repens. Suits Glosso well and is a stunning plant. 3.Hygrophila...

    Stringy Moss? ID please.

Is there a difference between that and Japan stingy moss? Mine looks nothing like that.
  31. nayr88

    Weeping moss

Was it mega thick before you trimmed it? If so it could be that the moss right at the base has had a bit of die off due to lack of light and nutrients. If it is all literally brown and dead well it could be too late but aslong as it looks atleast half alive it'll grow back in time. Upload a pic.

    Glosso Growing Vertical......?

Haha, :) Glosso is a weed once it gets comfortable with your conditiOns. Keep us posted mate.
  38. nayr88

    Glosso Growing Vertical......?

I had my gloss growing skybound, great co2 distribution and flow was on point. After i trimmed hard a couple times I had a weed like carpet that grew so so dense and was hard to keep on top of in a 20ltr Trim so there is one leaf left at the substrate then with what you remove replant :)

If you don't fancy using it, someone (even me) May be up for buying it for an emmersed set up. Ill check out the other plant you said will be to big haha. Yeh fishing line works well. Ill look for the videos tomorrow mate Cheers.

Planting Advice for a 20l cube

Yeah!! Riccia! Forgot that one haha. Lava rock is good moss rock :) I've be tempted to try the amano technique I saw the other week. Dice the moss extreme fine and smear onto the rock. If I can find the video ill re post here mate. Where are you ordering the moss from?
  41. nayr88

Planting Advice for a 20l cube

Why not spend a little bit a really smart bit of sand/gravel. ADA do some really cool ones, the have some larger rocks and a nice bit of wood decorated with moss. I think having a full moss carpet without any co2 could be a bit pants, it never looks any where near as good as it does with co2...
  42. nayr88

Planting Advice for a 20l cube

Going to second that for moss carpet, nice bit of hair grass, to add some Taller plants I'd go for needle fern, or narrow fern. Where did you get you hold of the tank?

    Fast growing moss

Haha laughing at you not with ya :) It's really not technical at all, it's the same as what your doing now, just bigger and not a rip off :) Good luck

    Fast growing moss

A rio180 with a mini co2 kit!! Man you wallet must be crying :( You have to go for the full co2 system
  45. nayr88

    Fast growing moss

Also consider liquid carbon, aslong as your not keeping expensive shrimp :D
  46. nayr88

    Fast growing moss

What size is the tank, I'd really only keep it if the tank was very very small, say 10l. Your best bet would be to get a fire extinguisher set up. You have the bubble counter ect with your current kit so yourll save money there, then say around £25 for a 2kg FE and 30-50for a reg to fit. I run...
  47. nayr88

    Fast growing moss

Low tech tanks are slow burners mate If wanted it to grow quick with better colour and form you'd have to go higher tech or a midway with co2

    Getting Christmas Moss to attach?

Hello mate As far as I know and in my experience Xmas moss will not attach itself to anything. Even I you superglue it, it'll grow but it won't climb along the wood or rock it's been glued to. Only Moses I've know to do this are mini Taiwan moss and fissidens. I may be wrong, but I've never...

    First Time Plant List

The fact the light doesn't have reflectors will help, but I really wouldn't start with 2bulbs or staggering lighting for a mid day burst. The filter is fine, I was running a 105 with Lilly pipes and inline heater AND inline diffuser :) so you should be ok with what you have mate. The plants...

    First Time Plant List

I know others have mentioned the lighting so all I'll say is a 3rd that! As for the rest it all sounds good, the UG is an ambitious choice no matter what you level you are at, but that doesn't mean you should try it, but if you want to plant once and not go backbon yourself and replant...

    Trimming Utricularia Graminifolia

ive never used it, but in my opinion id be inclined to trim it, unless you want it to grow vertically. Trimming could push it to spread a little.
  62. nayr88

    pellia

Sure does. I've found if growing amongst other mosses, and entangled in dense area of planting. The deal with pellia is that when reeeeeaally dense it doesn't rot and stays attached even will little to no ligh at the base. So if a little bit gets detached and finds its way around the tank...

    Domestic English Moss?

Nice pond darrel, my phone can't zoom too well so I can see the detail of the moss, does anyone have a picture of it in a tank? Or a picture of the moss you think it may be Matt? Cheerß
  64. nayr88

    Whats best?

Hello mate, I would stay away from hairnets as I've heard stories of fish getting caught in them. I used fishing line and its invisible to the eye :) As Darrel mentions I'd go for xmas moss too.

    Glosso or HC?

Hello Jen, I agree a lot of people are doing the HC 'thing' so on that I'd like to see a glosso carpet. If you have grown a carpet of HC already in other setups that's even more reason to gibe the glosso a try! I've grown glosso well under similar conditions, with colombo flora base and...

    Sand for Hemianthus callitrichoides 'cuba'?

Olly knotts normal will be fine, plus it would look abit poo having a mix of both. Remember to plant the hc in very small portions, a few springs planted close to each other rather than bug clumps.
