IMO most bacteria is pretty useless for cycling tanks. you are always best cycling them with ammonia.
However some of the discus fanatics swear by biozym which they claim to be very effective.......I have not had experience with it but i prefer to do things the old fashioned way! ;)
Try reducing the lighting by two hours and increasing co2 in normal conditions you want the co2 to be a lime green. As yoube got no livestock bump it upto a light yellow :)
more information on the lighting could prove useful, however 8 hours seems a long time for a new tank, I usually start on 6. Also, what is your water change regime? you will need to do a lot more water changes in the first few weeks.
Finally I cannot see any livestock in there it may be...
been mega busy recently so i apologise for the wait. once I confirm that the members that have already paid are happy with their selection I will individually pm the remainder of you all with the selection that I have left.
bank transfer is easiest for me. ill sort out prices tonight but if people want to paypal its piece of mind for you all. (i dont mind paying the 2.5% or whatever it is these days)
Apologies its been a mental weekend! anyhoo i will be compiling a few 'piles' for each of you today and I will post pictures on tonight if each of you are happy I will post tomorrow :)
well its arrived!
ill have to go through it over the weekend. by the end of sunday i will of pm'd everyone on the first list with 'their selection' and hopefully ill get it posted early on in the week :)
Apologies for the lack of updates, the wood was shipped out on saturday! If everyone is still interested ill sort out payments once it arrives when i confirm i have exactly what everyone has asked for :)
Evening chaps. I have finally come to the conclusion that my discus tank will never bee the planted paradise ive dreamed of due to the difficulty of balancing the needs of the fish with the needs of the plant.
So I have decided to treat myself to a new optiwhite and a stand specifically for...
yes always use a check valve! its usually a good idea to use 2. I only have a plastic one and the water has managed to breech it. thankfully the co2 setup is not in use so the water was stopped by the solenoid before it reached the reg.
Afternoon all,
I've recently been seeing some stunning tanks with some stunning scapes (most recent one was George's one on the PFK site) and after looking at the cost of all the components (I believe George's setup was close to 1k) How many people have similar set-ups done on a budget?
I...
Right here is the update.
I have spoke to Gary, and due to the quantity that he requires he will be ordering his own box,
SuperColey1, Samuran, Deano3 and my order should all fit in the one box and he will hopefully squeeze a tiny bit in for Pinkmummy79
it will be anywhere between...
Everythings updated.
Thats it for now im afraid. im sending over the info to Tom Barr and leaving it in his more than capable hands. To the ones on the top list i will confirm in a message the average price per person and estimated timings and if agreed i would like a contribution (or full...
Woody pics. Manzanita order arrived! | UK Aquatic Plant Society
Thats the quantity of one box.
For anyone else interested I will be placing the order with tom in the morning.
Mods please move to the relevant section if this is misplaced :)
As above I will be placing an order with Tom Barr for some manzanita wood hopefully as soon as possible. to reduce on costs I am inviting members to join in on this.
The box/boxes ordered will be around
90 cm x 42cm x 42 cm...
Cheers, Now that the breeding pair have their own tank I am going to have a bit of a change. going to drop the temp down to 27/28 degrees and im playing with the idea of running co2 again. going to ditch the wood I have and start looking for some new wood and im browsing the list of high heat...
cheers everyone!
so here is the tank as it stands, as you can see the discus are coming along nicely! down to four now as 2 are in a breeding tank and i sadly lost two earlier on in the year.
as you can see ive just thrown in plants and seen what has grown but i could do with a huge...
Howdy everyone. it has been a while since I have been on here due to a deployment and a house move and its about time I got my display tank back on track.
So this is how it looked a few months back
I'll post a recent picture tonight when I get in but for now I'm after advice......
If I...
i think its trial and error. realistically if your running both tubes initially id keep it as high as possible, that way you can slowly lower it month by month and if you get any problems with algae you know the limitation.
just waiting on delivery :) should be no later than wednesday, but thats if i can get someone to come round and accept delivery whilst im at work......
markl, i find that its easy to upload pictures if your on a photo sharing site like photobucket of flickr...... if the file is saved on your computer all you need to do is log into photobucket/flickr click upload and select the file, and once its uploaded copy and paste the 'img link' to the...
shaun, id love to build a cabinet its just unfortunate that i never seem to have the time at the moment. i think when i get bored of my new one in a few years ill take the plunge and have a bash, or i might even build one for my spare room next year and sort out a tank so my girlfriend can keep...
from what ive heard the build quality is not too bad.... but i have no experience with high quality tanks...... either way my current 200l that i never even got to use had been a botched tank build and it was stood on a converted tv cabinet so anything has to be better right?
Id like to thank everyone for the help and advice, but I have decided to go for an Allpondsolutions tank. I will ne starting a journal when it arribes and I will also be reviewing the tank. In the end I managed to get a further discount as I 'ahem'found a code for discount off the pfk forums...
going to phone up aps tomorrow, really tempted by that tank! i have also realised that considering the great value of the tank, that there is no major reviews of it. so, if i end up getting it i will start a journal and a review from a beginners view of a high tech aquarium :)
creg, have you got this tank? And jack my phone wont let me pm but I need one asap and the dimensions (id need to double check when I get home) are 120x45x45
Its funny you say that as that was the one I liked least when viewing tanks... However I have no experience in the worl of large tanks so all advice is good. Could you reccomend a tank builder or company that could build a 4ft optiwhite aquarium with no braces as that would be ideal! I will also...
Howdy! As some of you are aware my 4ft tank gave up on me the other day, the central strut collapsed and the front bowed out by 15mm so im doing away with it and spoiling myself to a new one.
The problem is i already have brand new lighting and a brand new filter and most aquariums and...
im pretty new to this but i would say yes, the length i imagine would depend on type of plants and nutrients ect, the bigger it grows the bigger the root system.
beautiful tank! My knowledge on plants is horrific so this is just my best guess! the plant with the tentacles im nearly 100% sure they are roots......... i dont know what type of plant it is but thats how a lot of plants repopulate. as far as the others go im not experienced enough but im sure...
