Need more light for what ???? Kill the plants more quickly ??? you haven't stated why you think you need more light.
Plants have survived a month with the light you have so is obviously is enough, if not too much for the setup you have.
The plant suffering in the pics looks like too much light...
Plants generally don't care about water hardness, you need to look elsewhere for your issues, as it's not water hardness.

Not true. The trace iron can react with macro fertilisers and form insoluble iron phosphate which is then no longer available for the plants to use, which is why you dose trace and macro on alternate days. A lot of people dose ferts on water change day, no issue. On saying that I ran for months...
