    Guppies strange behaviour

you're switching your filter off for 6 hours a night? I'm surprised the tank isn't completely dead! over night with no fresh oxygen flowing through it all the blahblahblahblah in the filter and the bacteria is dying and rotting so when you turn your filter back on the first thing that comes out of it is 99%...

What algae busting crew is suitable - Tiger Barbs

bn's are just fine with tiger barbs as are pretty much any plec. I'm surprised you list otto's as not mixing they should mix fine tiger barbs tend to only nip fins which are brightly coloured though in large groups they also stop bothering with the nipping. I keep mine with redtailed sharks for...

    cycling a tank with fry...

if you're 3 weeks into a fishless cycle and the tank is full of plants already then i'd say it is probably 99% cycled already. add your fish fry or adults either works. start doing your weekly water changes and you're good to go.

    Breeding l046

£80 is very cheap for zebs even juvs they're hypans so fairly easy to breed once you get fully setup they like lots of oxygen and the water to be warm apart from that they're not massively fussy although harder water can reduce your spawn count as the eggs are harder to crack so you get more egg...

Suggestions in a box! Pleco species please

the thing to remember is that most plecs come from quite fast flowing oxygen rich rivers with very little co2 and almost no plants most plecs for example are veggies so will devour most plants. the carnivore plecs tend to be larger (with a couple of exceptions). However most plecs also prefer...

    Sick Gourami - Help!

not entirely true. rapid cooling of water for a tropical fish acts as an anasthetic (sp?) the fish simply goes unconcious (quite quickly) and then dies in its sleep. decapitation isn't really a good idea as many fish can live on after decapitation for quite a while so you'd then have to stick a...

    In praise of Oto's

my ottos are useless they don't touch the algae in the tank and rarely eat the fresh veg that goes in. they do seem to like eating the pellet dust from the plec algae pellets that the plecs blow around the tank since they insist on fanning and eating at the same time so as their food gets water...
