A simple reptile heat mat would just raise the temp above average room temp or a better one with a controller would take it a little higher.
They work very well with small cubes but not so well with tall thin vessels.
Yeah I know what that is, it one of those things that creeps out of the tank at night, tracks your sent & homes in on your Meatus!
I suggest you go with the thread title ....
If they were very small then they could well of been eaten but that also depends on the amount of hiding places?
I don't think there are many fish who would turn down a tasty shrimp if it will fit in their mouth.
In my tank I still get the odd baby shrimp that survives to adulthood but...
Sorry about the attaching instead of attacking in the above post ... Ipnone screen V old man V no editing post after 15min forum rule!!!.
I don't think your Congo tetras would attack an adult amano as they get a lot bigger than cherrys do...
I don't really have any nussance algea, all my shrimps are pretty big (& fat) however I did have some issues with a few blind cave fish attaching my shrimp but they have gone back to the shop now.
No secrete really, I do a 10% daily water change and have a trickle filter but otherwise it just a standard high tec tank.
I do feed my fish and shrimp 4-6 times a day as I am home much of the time. I quite often see the shrimp feeding upside down from the suffice.
I have found them to be very tough creatures & a great asset to my tanks.
I do feel a bit guilty though as they cant actually reproduce in our fresh water tanks but very often carry eggs for months on end.
My present stock must be 6-7 years old!
Hi Jason thanks for that but they lived in my filter overflow because that is where the whole tank contents goes every 10 minutes & I guesse there is an endless supply of food for them but I only have the one big one know as the result of the blind cave fish eating its fans, the poor thing...
Well blow me down! after over one year I spot one of my shrimps in the main tank!
I do see the bigger one in my sump every now and then but this smaller one has been hiding for 14 months....
I have an African filter shrimp thing!
It lives in the overflow box to my sump, mostly in the dark & seems very well feed.
I don't want him to live there but that is his choice!
I did have two & spent a lot of time building caves etc where they could live but no they only like the little filter...
Ah I have seen Bamboo shrimps, should of bought those! bit late now though so we will just make the most of our two, as long as they are happy they can hide :)
Yeah who knows mate, maybe shedding but defiantly not intimidated by my corrys or killi fish as that is all I keep.
Both are feeding so we will just see what develops in the next week..
Well these creatures are not really being very cooperative!
One has decide to live in my sump overflow & no matter how many time it is removed it goes straight back in there, it is not actually doing any harm & is defiantly getting plenty of food.
The other one lives in the most inaccessible &...
I spent some time watching them in the shop tank, typical conditions with about 10 shrimp in a 30l tank!
There was only one cave, the assistant just picked up the cave complete with big shrimp & tipped him into the bag. She put the cave back in & another shrimp went straight in & that one came...
Similar I would say LOL
Saw one tonight though, it made a crazy dash along the bottom & is now just visible in its new cave.
I can also see the other one but only with a mirror behind the tank!
I bought two, one about 75mm long & the other about 50mm, cost £20 for two.
They went in my tank around 11am about 2 hours before lights start coming on, I saw one about an hour ago just for a few seconds & I know where they are hiding but no seen one apart from that.
I hope to see them...
I am the same... don't use de chlorinator, do use C02 & never had problems with breeding cherry's but I have had problems keeping CRS though!
As with Piece of fish, this is probably not good advice but it is a fact.
They can get a bit erratic like that when under stress but, normally they will just move around in a relaxed manner.
Cherry shrimps are really easy going, easy to breed & great additions for a planted tank.
Many of the more colourful shrimps for sale are not necessarily difficult to keep but...
The postman left a packet of cherry red shrimps in my shed without informing us & after 6 days of trying to track down where they were in the postal system I found them - in my shed!
Of the 20 ordered, 19 still lived & I still have the descendants now.
This happened last December!
Ha Ha - well I guesse it depends on your own personality as a human as to the answer :?
Their behavioral actions are amusing to my eyes but, I have never given one a name.
Not sure really?
I bought 5 x tiger shrimps about 6 years ago, they multiplied to over 100 but there numbers have dwindled recently to about 20.
I think this is down to food supply as my tank is now virtually devoid of the algae!
The issue is the remaining shrimps have no colours or stripes - so...
