If its 750 litre
Thats 375 litres in per week
53.5 litres per day
2.23 litre per hour
So that is literally a drip feed

Castle
Is this going to be a planted aquascape with light amount of fish or more fish than your typical plant person would use more of a fish keepers tank ?
I have an hma that is connected to a shower valve so it gives me the right temperature filtered water
If you want to keep it simple...
Im my experience you only need one hole in the tank usually in the base to overflow into the sump
In the sump have an overflow hole in the first chamber
Fit the fresh line drip in the pump chamber
If you drip in constantly theres no need to do water change so no extra holes are needed
If...
Look up Drum Filters
They are the latest must have on koi ponds
Can you remove the existing dividers in the sump so you can make the water flow under / over so it has to go through all the media ?
What will power your drum ?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well they have the best seats at the sushi bar just sit there and the food comes to them
If you have spares I’ll take some
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Presume you have shrimp that’s why you bought a strainer ?
Yes it gets clogged but can be taken off fairly easily, remember the pipe will be wet so aids in the removal,
It easier if you had a second one to swap over so shrimp can’t go into the inlet pipe while your cleaning the strainer
I use...
Totally agree with the above posts
You need to decide how much you want to be sold an idea
Simple gravel works as a medium after all there wasn’t much else around 50 years ago and fish were happy and bred
I personally like foam as it’s cheap comes in various grades very easy to cut to fit...
It’s a big model

Hi all
Thanks for the input
I’ve purchased a filling machine from the vevor website it arrived next day working day which was extremely fast
It’s works on a timer which you can set to 100th of a second
It was pretty straight forward to set up all you have to do is unroll the hoses and fit...
Imagine a production line of 100 containers all needing to be filled one at a time with a measured amount of water
Let’s say 100ml as a volume just to get ideas
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
There’s no control with a float switch
I can’t see how one would control taking out 100ml of water from a barrel
There needs to be some sort of valve that measures the flow then buts out the pump at the set limit
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Hi you intelligent lot
I need to find a way to fill containers with a set amount of water fast
I’m not one off you electronics genesis so please make it simple English [emoji23]
Let’s say I have a 50 gallon drum sat on the floor and I somehow want to pump up and out small frequent measured...
Hard to find good ones
They all go hard and brittle eventually
Can you show me how the suckers attach to the filter as I may have an idea for a permanent solution
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’ve made loads over the many years of fish keeping from my own box filters to koi pond filters and complete filters systems for recirculating aquarium systems
To be honest yours will work they are cheap but it’s a big blue thing in a small tank
I would of looked for something more inline...
Perhaps as we mostly have heavily planted tanks the plants suck up the ammonia etc until the filter recovers
Or are your filters just mechanical and the flow is what keeps everything healthy ?
There’s plenty of no filter write ups but some use a pump to get a flow
I suppose the only real...
I go with Darrel on this and I only use coarse foam
I use a finer one across a corner like an hmf and put the intake behind it
In small tanks I now use the ss strainer you buy from China on the intake even on a hob
Hob filters I don’t buy the replacement I just cut a piece of foam to fit...
Hi
I will depend on the stocking levels in your setup
How many litres ?
Which fish species and quantities ?
Fully planted ?
There are setups running that have no filtration but use pumps just for circulation
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don’t think they meant to let it dry out completely just tip it up and pour out the water so that the media remains moist
An aerobic organism or aerobe is an organism that can survive and grow in an oxygenated environment. In contrast, an anaerobic organism (anaerobe) is any organism that...
Should be easy to do
A base plate
A piece of tube 75mm ?
A small piece connecting into it at the base and some course filter foam to fill it
Quite easy design if you do this sort of work
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes I remember it
It was very good and saved doing maintenance on the filter
I have a list of all the parts but I can’t upload the photo
Here’s a link the the German site where you can find it...
There is no sump
This is not part of the filtration system, that is separate
This is just for continuous water changes
With the addition of the valve which when opened creates a syphon until the water level drops to the hole which lets air into the pipe and thus stops the syphon
There are...
It’s a fish only system
So only be fish waste or uneaten food to remove
Cleaning the pipes is not a problem as the ones in the tank will not be glued
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m designing a fish holding system for a friend
It will have a constant water change to each aquarium via a Hma
But I also want to put in a manual water change without having to get out the syphon pipe
So here’s my idea
Please tell me if you can see any reasons why it would not work...
It’s possible that there is a manufacturing error on yours, if the filter is turned off does it leak ?
You shouldn’t need to shake it, are you pipes kinked or looped lower than the filter outlet? This will stop air from passing out, you should make the pipes as short as possible so there are...
Hi all I’ve never even contemplated having one but I came across the video and wondered if anyone has used one of these for dosing aquaria ?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got the tank as a present
I may add some shrimp but fish come first as my 3 year old granddaughter has laid claim on it hence the pair of guppies
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It’s sat on one of those Ikea cube cabinets so there room underneath but restricted height or there’s room behind the tank
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have an aquael 19 litre shrimp tank it comes with an internal powerhead with a sponge attached
It works well but takes up a lot of room in such a small space
What external filter would you recommend and why ?
It’s has one pair of guppies and low tech at present as not sure if the led...
The matting will last a very long time but I don’t think it has the same surface area as a foam
Could be good in the first chamber
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I went with a larger trickle tower made from Ikea Trofast boxes it works brilliantly and I’ve filled it with Japanese filter matting so it can handle the flow
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m sure you will be happy with the eheim especially as it can be submerged or surface mounted - lots of options for future uses
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’d use an eheim compact+ 3000 great flow and good head height to easily do what you want, I use them on two of my tanks
second hand if money is a problem (roughly £35 on eBay)
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It’s very basic for a stock holding tank of fancy goldfish
I will sit across the width of the aquarium on the support bars
350 mm tall
350 mm long
150mm wide
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It’s for the base of a trickle tower so there should not be any volume of water standing in it
I’ll be using Japanese matting as a media so that should not restrict the flow
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know you clever people will know this
How do you work out the diameter of the hole required to allow 3500 litres per hour flow through it under gravity ?
Hmf is definitely not in my plans
I just want to hide the pump inside the tank
So the question remains where to drill the intake holes in the box ?
Obviously above the substrate level but how far above ?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The sheet of foam required would be approximately 400mm X 700mm
That a lot of foam to try to wash in a bucket
It would be a nightmare
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The main filtration will be done by a combination of a trickle tower and a modified aquaponics type set up above the main tank
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use Hamburg filters in breeding tanks but they simply don’t look good in a display tank
If you cover them with plants then it becomes impossible to clean then
Remember the bigger the sponge the more mess it holds and drops into the tank when you remove it to clean it
Sent from my iPhone...
I had two externals on it originally but I hate the hassle of climbing in cupboards to turn taps off and the whole cleaning process is a ball ache
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hi all
I’m playing around with the idea of building a “Pump Box” made of acrylic that sits on the base on the aquarium to house the eheim pump and also the 300 watt stainless steel heater
I considering drilling holes in either one side or the top to allow the water in
Also thinking of...
If you want more flow get a hob or a canister
It's easy to put foam of your choice over the intake
Just buy some filter foam and cut it up into small cubes
Cut a slit in one side and put it onto the intake pipe
Make a few and be prepared to change daily
Remember if you change filters to...
Diffuse the returning water
Put a sponge over the end
Put the return into a container of some kind and let it rain onto the surface
Get a sort finned betta if you having a high turnover

Hi guys
I'm going to remodel my trigon 350
I've bought an eheim compact + 3000 to use
But not sure where to bring back the return
I'm going to put the outflow in the rear corner
Where do you suggest I place the return ?
Polite answers please [emoji23]

No the adapter just threw the power head of at the angle to match the juwel pumps
It pushed onto the base of the power head and push into the filter tube
Was just like fitting a new juwel pump
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There's nothing stopping you from using a small pond pump
Just need one that a hose attaches to the inlet size then just silicone some flexible pipe into the filter
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lancs Rik only had the 190 so take that into account
I have two external totally 2000 LPH and not happy with it so I've currently emptied the tank and totally rethinking it or it's going on eBay [emoji51]
Nice tanks but so hard to scape
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's rated at 1000lph but that's it's best when just cleaned
So you're getting roughly x3 turnover
That's on the low side
Plus they are hard aquariums to get good flow in due to there shape
Got any pics

What do you feed the shrimps ?
I would use filter foam sheets cut to fit on top of each tray of grog
If you don't have anything to catch the larger debris it will just circulate
Regards
Dean
Looks like these are universal hose tails
They are designed for different diameter pipes
You simply see which part your pipe fits on and then cut of the sections below
So you could have an easy fix for your new pump - a junior hacksaw

Dean
Drilling a tank is very easy
Need a powerful drill preferably a mains one
The hole cutter is a hollow tube and the only danger is it getting hot which would then crack the glass
To shop this in factories they have a coolant running over the bit, these isn't viable on a tank so the best way I...
I've used sumps and centralised system, trickle towers etc in past on big scale not on a single tank
I'm aware of all the drainage details etc
Thanks for advice guys
I'm future proofing the tank just in case I go high tec at some point

Dean
Hi all you clever people
I'm thinking of putting a sump on my trigon 350 which has two external on it at present but it's such a hassle getting them in and out of the cabinet to clean them regularly
So it has over 300 litres
Currently low tech and probably stay that way for the foreseeable...
I would have a foam pre filter in the pump intake
Use plastic drain pipe to make a trickle tower
Just cap one end use it as the base drill it full of holes, enough so water flows through easily but media stays inside
Use filter foam or filter matting on the top to collect any crap that goes...
If you have problems with ammonia and nitrate it suggests that your filter isn't working properly
Can you post a few pics or a video do we can see and suggest a remedy
If you were to compare this to a planted tank where the water is circulated upto 10 times per hour
Then your flow is very...
Found my old Eheim 2013 in a box in the loft, I bought this new about 30 years ago :-) can you still get spares ? Think it may need a new seal lol
Can't remember pipe size
I have trigon 350 low tech, t5 lighting
Upgraded the pump to a fluval 402 and also installed fluval 305 external
So I think I get the following
1200 LPH from 402
1000 LPH from 305
Therefore that's about X6 flow
Plants are different ferns species and Anubias
Is this flow rate ok?
