The tank is 40cm away from the wall, no background was applied to the back glass. Regarding the lid, I couldn't live without it, all my fish are jumpy, I've lost a lot of them before adding it and I won't go back, I can always increase the light intensity with reflectors or by adding another...

Before people start pumping photons, scared they have too little light, here's a photo with my tank: I'm using 2x18w T8s / 60l, no reflectors, 10cm above the surface and a plexi lid, most of the time covered in dust.

Take the decor out and clean it with a brush, it's easier than spot dosing and killing your shrimp in the process.

I ditched mine, I had the nicest algae (BGA and spyro) outbreak during my one week vacation. One week later, after tweaking the things that triggered the outbreak, the tank looks better than it did with the twinstar and the annoying mist is gone. If this thing can't slow down, at least, an algae...

It will be less likely to have an algae bloom after a water change if something goes wrong. :) Anyway feel free to experiment but any change you do stick on it for a couple of days to see results.

Jaap, you can test if you have too little light by increasing it :) .. go from 30% to 50-60% after the water change and see what happens in a week.

It takes time to master it, that's true, some peeps have more luck some don't. I didn't, I had to run it for years before knowing how much is enough. Lower the light a bit, gives you more room to play and doesn't stress the plants too much. BTW michrantemum sp. monte carlo takes time to start...

I cut a 3mm acrylic sheet to make 2 lids ~£10. In 3 weeks I had ~2l of water evaporation in every tank (60 and 70l), they are covering ~90% of the surface. Mike

There's a bit of condensation, the light was off a long time ago.

Hi guys, not sure it's limescale, I think it's the biofilm gone dry, the glass stays almost clean after water evaporation when using skimmers. I did a thing I should've done a long time ago, I put a 3mm plexi lid on top of both aquariums and the evaporation is almost non existant, no dust going...

That's what happened with my Hydor, 200w over 70l, one morning belly ups all over, luckily I was there and some survived. Learned my lesson and went by to my trusty internal heaters. Mike

You kinda need a >1000lph filter for the AM1000 with bioballs, ecco 300 is IMO good for ~50l tanks without any inline stuff.

Just drain the water from the external filter to expose the bacteria to air and do a water change a day before.

Got two sets only for the clear skimmer, they are made of two pieces glued together and tend to leak after awhile. They are also more fragile than the glass ones.

The lighting statement about w/l from Tropica (and other older articles) is for T8s and 40-50cm high tanks. Adding more light than 0.5w T8 (that can grow any plant and keeps the algae at bay in an CO2/LC enriched tank) is necessary for making some stem plants grow a bit...

Get the Efflux F3 for the front of the tank and gUSH oPipe 17 for the back (you'll save some extra quid), you don't need to push the water downwards there if you want the plants to grow vertically. Also don't point them both perpendicular to the front, the corners will have too much water flow...

Dose the ferts you like. Controlling the light, co2 and flow is the only thing that makes the difference between a novice and an expert. :)

Pull an infected plant out and smell it, if it smells bad it's cyanobacteria.

The only one I know is The Art of the Planted Aquarium held in Hannover Germany in January.

Here on local forums people advised us that the water company is using Aluminium sulfate and could cause issues if the water is not treated prior water change. I'm using only mineralized RO water and I haven't got any issues in the past two years with fish deaths related to water change.

Luis I don't think that making an Asian scape will get you awarded more, you'd better buy a book on photo composition. :) I love Long Tran Hoang's scape (#1) and also Cliff Hui's (#4) and was one entry I don't know why it was ranked so high (won't tell which one). Hope I'll be able to enter one...

This one was done at ADA seminar during the IAPLC party, spotted some familiar faces there. :) Nice tank, the stone is not that heavy so there's no need for extra protection. Had one volcanic rock like those and was ~10kg.

Drop the light to 2 tubes and keep it that way for a while or try and invest in a good sunscreen lotion for your plants. :)

You can add some Trident or Needle Java fern alongside what you have. I wouldn't add others but I'd try different types of mosses. Mike

George: ADA New Lily Pipe Inflow V-7 or DO!Aqua Violet Glass VV-3 17D should suit your needs.

Darrel it really depends on the breeder, here both discus and rams are raised in medium - hard water, ph ~ 7.5 - 8, gh/kh > 10-15. A local breeder that raises them in local tap water is preferred. Of course the water quality for these fish species needs to be optimal. Rams are more sensible...

A cheaper solution is to add a fine layer of "JBL Filter Boost" before adding the soil if you don't have mulm from another tank. My next tank with amazonia won't feature power sand, I'm tired of picking it from everywhere when pulling out plants. Mike

Well how do they change the water in their xx000l reef tanks? For sure they are not running buckets around the house. :lol: There are plenty of solutions to ease your water change technique mate. ;)

Then why don't you upgrade only your aquarium to a custom made rimless opti-white 120x45x65 and buy a Fluval lid or ask someone to make you a silver one? Your cabinet looks nice so there's no need to replace it.

I think Profile 1000 is kinda small for angelfish, though it looks nice, I'd try and find a 500l, maybe some still have the 1500 in stock. I prefer the big fish - big aquarium combo. Best, Mike

Never had any problems with growth in high temps, last year the water temperature reached 35 degrees and the plants were growing like crazy. Just make sure to increase CO2, etc. Mike
