    Bamboo in aquarium

Dry bamboo as far as I see in my aquarium it's safe, no fish complained about it :), if you have deep soil and the sticks are not that thick they may not float, if they do, just weight them with smth for a while until they soak some water.

    Bamboo in aquarium

I doubt that, maybe you are reffering to lucky bamboo .. and that's another story :) One of OK's bamboo scapes to see the evolution: http://www.pbase.com/plantella/lubamboo I'd drill some holes in the bamboo to release the air if it tends to float. Cheers, Mike

    Flow around heavily hardscaped tanks

A lilypipe on the right should do. Maybe move the whole thing a couple of inches slightly to the left so the rightmost rock doesn't touch the glass and blocks the flow.

    15 UK applicants (IAPLC)

True to that, some amazing one from you guys. Glad to see the finished scapes photos early. Congrats to UKAPS for qualifying in the 2nd round. Not really into the ones with posters in the back but Amano knows why he selected them. :) Since I'm not voting this year here's my fav: Mike

Video from the ADA seminar in Niigata

For this setup the seminar attendants challenged Amano to use ugly hardscape. I think the end result looks OK and I like the use of wabi's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... iT3o#t=68s

    IALPC 2012 New Judging Guidelines

ASE is gone. I'm not competing, maybe in the future but I don't have high hopes, anyway for me the new interactive judging is gonna to be fun. :) Mike

    Open aquariums

I blame my open top for 99% of my critters death, lost all my 20 or so amanos recently as they do like to climb things and when scared by other fish they take the leap of faith. A clear mesh should solve the problem, unfortunately I couldn't find any quality one here, yet, so I'm staying...

Scaping for Fish aswell as Aesthetics

Regarding the open space designs you are right but he's got plenty of others, especially if you look at his early works. Cheers, Mike

Scaping for Fish aswell as Aesthetics

Hi Ollie, I usually browse the contests galleries if I can't find inspiration: http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/ http://aac.acuavida.com/gallery/main.php or Amano's Complete Works book (I think TGM has it in stock or you can try ebay) Cheers, Mike

    Let's talk aquascaping "the future"

Scaping goodies ... same location as the last pictures. Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (and others) resembles a bit with manzanita, think they are the same family ... collected some for a future scape, you have it also in UK. Mike

    Let's talk aquascaping "the future"

@Aquadream I'll try an excerpt to think about it: [...] 'There you are!' exclaimed my hostess triumphantly. 'That's just it. That's what I mean. One can't explain these things. One must feel. One must not look for details, one must get an impression, an emotion. [...]...

    Let's talk aquascaping "the future"

 Stephan .. well it can be done without special techniques .. do the aquascape looking sideways in a long tank, light the front side and let the other in the shade and voila .. misty :) (Tom has a nice big tank ideal for this but he's too concentrated with farming :) ) Glad you like them...

A couple of photos as an inspiration for your mountain-iwagumi scapes: Sadly this is the third time I go there and no clear sky, hopefully next time ... Collected some nice wood from there too. Mike

    Yanks, We suck.........

Mate you have some really nice jungle tanks but when it comes to simple ones, well, they remind me about parades, too organized, straight monochromatic gravel, man it looks like you are scared of it, play with it more, add some decoration sand, stones, George for example is the master using...

+1 Graeme, great post "I wonder how the native American Indians would be at scaping, I would imagine very well and very deep and meaningful." Not sure the true natives will really love the idea of a fish box like we do. :) Mike

    Yanks, We suck.........

True mate, lots of pictures and some brilliant quotes like Amano does in its books, no need to bore us to death, I recall the time I put my hands on Diana's book, don't think I'll go that route very soon, though it was a nice read. :) I'm still scared opening Pearson's Chemistry and Biology...

    Yanks, We suck.........

IMHO keeping planted tanks is fairly easy unfortunately some people make it hard for newcomers. The hard part is aquascaping for contests 'cause you have to stick on the "rules". After three years of keeping planted aquariums I can write a 2-3 page leaflet to cover all you need to keep a...

    Yanks, We suck.........

There are a couple of things to take into consideration: - There are people who do aquascaping but are not really into online comunication so you won't find them or their work on the web whatsoever, if you are not online this doesn't mean you don't exist. :) - You don't really need "high grade"...

    ASE 2011 Aquascapes

Well George most of the winner tanks from ASW are coming from Asia :) As I told some folks from a local forum none of the creation there really impressed me, same ol' mountain, forrest, path, island 'scapes, people try too much to capture large lanscapes in their tanks, in contrast with Amanos...

    Let's talk aquascaping "the future"

I'm not sure you can think outside the box if you don't spend your 90% of the time studying (photographing nature for example) and 10% for aquascaping not vice-verse. Most of the folks never leave home/city so their imagination is very limited to what they see in their surrounding gardens, over...
