Remineralising RO water with waste water

I think there is a general lack of Magnesium in tap water across most of the UK. If your aquarium is only 27l you would probably only need to add about half of a gram or so to your change water.

Remineralising RO water with waste water

Hi, Sorry to hear of your fish deaths. You might just want to add a small amount of Magnesium via Epsom Salts to try and achieve an approximate 3 - 1 Calcium - Magnesium ratio. It all looks pretty good to me. Cheers!

Alkaline/Hard water used for water change into acidic/soft water aquarium

Using soft water is one of a few parameters that will help ease the task of growing most aquatic plants and will also broaden your options to keep a wider range of fish that will be more than comfortable in the environment you create. Your neon tetras will thank you for it. Cheers!

Yes, it will add Sodium which we don't want, use Potassium Bicarbonate instead. Cheers!

    Confusion concerning 0dKH and nitrification

    Hi @dw1305 Darrel, Does this work the other way round for GH? 1dKH = 17.86 ppm CaCO3 From above; 1dKH = 17.8575 mg/liter CaCO3. 7.143 mg/liter of this is Ca, the rest ;(17.8575-7.143)= 10.7145mg/liter CO3 1dKH = 10.7145 ppm CO3 Cheers!

    Reverse Osmosis Usage Check

Almost yes as I would imagine there is still a need to add some Magnesium. Personal preference and ease, although I would never use a remin product as you will inevitably end up adding large quantities of something that you don't want, i.e. Potassium or Sodium (I know you need some Potassium)...

Need some help with RO water info

Hi, Assuming your tank is 60l and you're changing 30l/week of water, you would add (preferably) to a premix container the quantities in the Dry Dosing Column. These are the ratios (but not targets) I use but you can use whatever you like or whatever is available to you. If you then punch these...

RO membrane and pre-filters - service life in 345mg/L very hard water

Hi. I live in Lincoln at the bottom of a jurassic limestone ridge where the tap water has a TDS of 340 and my Osmotics RO system (without a DI filter) reduces this to 10 TDS so I presume it has pretty much removed all of the calcium and magnesium. I change the prefilters approximately every 6...

Can anyone see any problems with growing plants in this water?

20 ppm TDS is very low which reflects that your water is fractionally over 1 dGH, not sure of you dKH. The reading from your tank could possibly be higher because of the fertiliser (root tabs) you have added and as @_Maq_ states could also be due to any calcareous hardscape you have in there...

I'm not sure of all the correct lingo but there is a free version on One Drive. I have used it in the past but cannot remember exactly how. I think you just drag the IFC file into the 'View Online', I'm sure someone more qualified than me will chip in if you're interested in going down this...

Can anyone see any problems with growing plants in this water?

Hi, Perfect water. Not sure it you're adding anything yet but some Magnesium (Epsom Salts) to bring it to roughly a 3 to 1 ratio with the Calcium would be good, and I've never used API Leafzone but I think you would be better off with a comprehensive fertiliser that contains all the Macro...

High GH - mixing up water question

Yes just mix and leave for a couple of hours to stabilise (while warming), a very small circulation pump would be beneficial. You will probably find that you need to add a bit more Magnesium (Epsom Salts) but you may have this covered with your Fertz

    BUYING FIRST RO FILTER HELP.

Maybe or maybe not. Is it possible for you to time how long it takes to produce a given amount water and then use the math to compare it to the amount that the unit is advertised to produce? If it's 150g/day and it's only producing 100g then yes, whereas if it's producing 140g then probably not...

    BUYING FIRST RO FILTER HELP.

Hi, I'm not a chemist but the answer as far as I can tell is basically yes. As an insight though and I can only relate to my basic understanding and practices which include supplementing CaSO4 50/50 with CaCl2 and I also use a small amount of CaNO3 to reduce the final amount of K by reducing...

Should i raise ph of ro water

I'll let someone else comment on the quantities because I'm crap at math's that's why I use the IFC Aquarium Fertilizer Calculator ;) What I don't understand is why you're making a solution and not just adding the ingredients straight to your RO water, with a pump and heater ready for the...

Hi, If it was me and if I'm understanding you correctly (the tank has been running for a few of weeks), the first thing I would do is introduce 10 or so Nerite Snails or 15 Clithon Snails (which I find are are better) give it a couple of weeks and add some Shrimp. You've given us a beautiful...

Moving to an RO / Tap Water Mix

Morning, I'm in Lincoln, not too far away and my tap (from memory) is roughly 630 μS, 300 TDS, 16GH and 12 KH. I use remineralised pure RO to give me 5 GH and 1 KH which equates to about 100 TDS (which increases over the week using EI) or 230 μS. I would mix RO with 20 to 25% tap, which is what...

    Raising KH with limestone

Hi, I've heard of people putting crushed coral or oyster shell in their filters to buffer the KH but I don't really know why you would want to do this, a lot of people would die for tap water with that parameter. You haven't provided much information and I'm wondering if you have expensive soil...

    Chloramines

Hi, If I'm understanding correctly, could you not extract your water from the RO system before it goes through the membrane but after it has passed through the sediment, activated carbon and carbon block filters? Nitrate Tests?

Hi, I may be wrong but living in Lincolnshire I would imagine your GH is most probably around twice as high as 8-10. I'm in Lincoln and I've just this moment tested my tap water which is GH19, although this too will be an inaccurate reading it has always hovered around this value whenever I've...

Acceptable level of Nitrate non planted community.

20 -40ppm is good as it's around 30 that we EI users aim for, lean dosers will no doubt argue this point and it's presuming you have plants in these aquariums. Cheers! Sorry, just re-read the title (old age), as far as I'm aware the levels should be ideally kept below 25, and below 5 would be...

What’s everyone’s thoughts on aquarium testing kits (Newbie)

Hi mate, Not sure we were both in the same ballpark earlier. You stated you were injecting 10 bubbles/minute and I explained that I was injecting 4 bubbles/second on a similar sized tank, have you now turned it down to 4/minute? I know counting bubbles is not an exact science due to many...

What’s everyone’s thoughts on aquarium testing kits (Newbie)

Hi, I have a very similar sized aquarium and my bubble count is roughly 4 bubbles/second. I can't really understand why your drop checker is lime green all day with this injection rate on a 200l aquarium. Looking at the photos I would hazard a guess your problems are arising from poor CO2...
