    Getting bogwood to sink

Unfortunately, the length of bogwood is at least 3 feet long. I could soak it in the bath in very hot water for the day if needed but i will also try drilling lots of small holes in it to get the water to soak in better :banghead:

    Getting bogwood to sink

I have a nice long piece of bogwood that i found in the shed which i'd like to use in my aquarium. trouble is, it floats. I don't have any rocks to weigh it down with so need to know if there's any ways of getting it to sink. Currently it's wedged under the bracing bars in the tank in a...

Steve....no probs. Thanks for the link, had a flick through but will have a good read later. Fred...the shop that has the discus i like has a pH of 6.5 which is why i will lower it. Once the fish have settled, i might try to bring it back up very slowly to tap water pH. Thanks guys Andy

    Temp and pH with plants

I'm about to convert my 100 gallon to a Discus tank and need to make a few changes to the water. Firstly, i need to bring the pH down to about 6.5 from about 7.3 and secondly, i need to raise the temp from 77 to around 82. Providing this is done slowly, is this likely to have any adverse...

    Backings

Just looking through George's native set up with sticklebacks and wondered what the score was with the lack of background. I might be a bit old fashioned but i've always had a black background (blue with marine) on my tanks which helps to set off the colours. I thought the stickleback tank...

Poll: What's your favourite aquascaping style?

My ambition is to one day, set up a big paludarium (6' x 6' x 2') and grow lots of epiphythic orchids and bromeliads in a natural tropical setting. I used to look after a huge tropical palm house for Brighton parks and gardens and it was heaven.....add an aquatic section, streams and...

Whats the life span of your aquascape?

I tend to be more long term. However, being a perfectionist with aquascaping, im forever changing groups of plants in the search for a superb tank. But nothing stays the same and just as we think something looks "perfect", one of the plants grows that little bit more or just melts away...

FoF - Raising the (UKaps) bar even higher next year

Re: FoF - Raising the bar even higher next year Ok guys, here's my thoughts on the UKAPS stand and the show in general. Stopping tannins

Any ideas on how to stop bogwood and it's reletives from releasing tannins. I know some people like the blackwater look or use carbon to remove it from the water column, but i'd like to know if it's possible to stop it being released in the first place without soaking it for donkey's years...

    Propagating aquatics

    Time for a new tank

Think i would possibly go for a 1.5" layer of eco-complete with a 1.5" layer of sand on top.....that would cut £100 off the bill !!! Unless you have any other way of providing a decent enough substrate without spending a fortune. I'm not a lover of swords so wouldn't be keeping them by the...

    Fine White Sand (Rio Negro)

You can get sugar fine sand....which is pure white and like dust but i'm not sure if this is meant for marine use and will affect your water conditions. One downside i found when using this was that it got blown everywhere because it was so fine....even in minimal flow.
