    Regulators?

Re: Re: Hiya, Just thought I would add that, I don't understand this either, but I've seen it happen. As the cylinder empties so the pressure goes up and so does the bubble rate. Sam

    Heater suggestions.

Ive got a Theo 25w and its a superb bit of kit, cant fault it. Used in all my nanos over the years. I would however consider an inline heater if you can find one second hand or afford a new one, as in a 30lt, a heater sticks out like nothing else, even a small heater. Sam

Additional filter option for a 180l

I used to have an ex2400 which was ridiculously noisy. I've also got an ex600 which you have to put your ear next to just to be sure its working its that quiet! I've not owned an ex1200 but have seen them 'in action'. Sam

Additional filter option for a 180l

Just to add that Ive just added a profito 1500 to my 4ft and its not whisper quite, like the ex1200. Its not noisy per se but it does produce a slight humm, even after I covered it with a duvet. Sam

using surface skimmers to increase dissolved oxygen?

There is also the issue of a skimmer removing CO2. Also, just to throw it in, if the plants are healthy then they will be producing more than enough O2 for the fish, indeed, pearling is a sign that the water is saturated with O2. Sam

  23. T

    hydor eth

It probably wont, if not you can easily change over the tubing to standard non-ribbed for a few quid. It shouldn't affect it at all. It is reduce flow a bit, but probably not so much that you would notice. Sam

Anyone bought a large tank from Aquariums Ltd?

That 'lip' is a brace to help stop the glass bending, but its not essential if the glass is thick enough. I got a 48x18x18 tank from TGM that is totally braceless, i.e. the only glass it has in that which forms the 'sides' of the tank. No holes or other bracing present at all. I think I'm...

    lily pipes

DIY Co2 setup, what exactly do i need?

Yeh good idea. Change them a few days apart, as said, to balance out the co2 levels. Or if like me you're lazy just have one and change it just before or after lights out then it has time to build up again over night when Co2 levels don't matter :) Sam

Aquarium Controllers / Computers in the planted aquarium.

Mostly, I dont think there is any need for computers. The fert system used by many means that precise control of the levels in a tanks is necessary. Similarly, its a very simple process to add a few ml of a liquid fert to a tank each day. They also tend to be expensive, so unless there is...

    Dealing with condensation

I have often wondered about condensation problems, as I get condensation quite badly in my house. Could be due to the open top 120x45cm tank in my living room. The worse affected place is the front door which has single glazed windows in it. That thing you could swim on there is so much...

    Vecton UV 200.

I think the flow rate given for the UV is the max flow rate for the unit to be effective. The UV doesn't actually have a flow rate per se, its effectiveness is reliant on the flow rate of the water put through it by the filter. You could run a ex1200 on the UV200, with only a very slight...

    Reactors

I wouldn't worry to much about a bubble counter John. I dont use them any more and reply on the DC to guide the CO2 levels. If its a new tank then you will have a few weeks in order to get the co2 level right before the fish go in anyway. FYI you can also use a normal glass diffuser as a...

Sheild to stop carpeting plant being pulled up

Would probably be OK, but if you can get a finer one then more so the better. You'd only need it for a week or two so I would think the plants ought to be OK under it for that long. Sam
  74. T

Sheild to stop carpeting plant being pulled up

I would be tempted to try and find a plastic mess rather than using wire just to be on the safe side. A hobby shop would probably be your best bet. I would also want to lift it up off the HC every few days to stop the HC growing through the mesh and getting tangled. If that happened you'd...

    Inline Equipment
