    Substrate Choice?

I've used NS and personally would not use sand to cap it, after a while the sand will fall through the soil and mix together, and as said before replanting will mix the too, unless that's the look your after of course. :)

    Long term substrate

No problem John, btw i think Richard at AE will be getting black and brown versions in this time.

I think AE will be re-ordering the 10L bags shortly Nick.

    Long term substrate

Hi John, i'm using Oliver Knott's NS in both my tanks, one 20L nano with no co2, and my 720L with co2. Both are totally crypt based tanks and they seem to be doing good. I can only say from using initially ADA AS Amazonia that the NS seems to be a cleaner product in every way, my large tank...

    ada as africana powder!

Hi Bazz, yeah, sorry that AE have only 10L fine, as i bought all there remaining 10L normal bags, then i had to buy the fine to make up the quantity in my tank.  I think AE is the only UK stockist of this, give Richard a ring AE to see when his next order is coming in, i'm sure...

    ada as africana powder!

I've had a similar experience with ADA AS amazonia normal, it does settle down, but did take a few weeks in my 720L tank. And after pulling all of the plants out for a rescape, the tank was just black for about a week, even with new filter floss and a high turnover. I am now using Oliver...

I bet this has been asked millions of times sorry

To work out how many bags you need for your tank, Aqua Essentials have a simple calculation: Take your aquarium length in cm, multiply this by the width in cm and then divide by 1800. This gives you the number of 10L bags you need.
  9. TDI-line

    whats my best option?

I've also got both, ADA in my 720L, and NS (fine) in my 20L, the NS wins. I'm even thinking about using the NS in my 720L, but this will cost around £350-£400.

    clouding substrates

Yep, when i resscape my 720 litre with ADA aquasoil, once i've pulled out all the plants, i have to leave the tank for 24 hours to get some visibility back.

    heating cable???

If my old tank was like Windows, i would click and drag the heating cables to the recycle bin, and then perm delete. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2347&hilit=destruction

    ADA soils

I removed my old substrate and replaced with around 14 bags of Amazonia in my 720 litre. All livestock including shrimp went into my spare 125 litre for the next week. I refilled the tank with tap water and used the original filter media. I changed 50 % of the water twice of the next week...

    Black gravel/substrate

Hi Hogan, i can't say i have this problem. My water is a little cloudy though, and it may take a week to clear due to the size (160G). My tank consists mostly of Blyxa Japonica, with a high flow turnover. My Cory. Sterbai do breed regulary in there too.
  15. TDI-line

    Black gravel/substrate

I've got ADA aquasoil Amazonia which is black, and very very soft as it is soil. My corys have no problems, and so do the plants for it's nutrient properties.

    Substrate advice/suggestions

I'm sure you'll Discus will be fine, but you could always use the AS Malaya or Africana as an alternative. As for carpeting, glosso has been very easy with the new substrate, T5's and CO2. I paid £27.99 from AE, but it is available from TGM now, at the same price. So 14 x £27.99. :( I did...

    Substrate advice/suggestions

Hi Vase, as you are aware, we both have the same tank, i have to say the ADA AS is the best substrate i have used, and personally i would not buy any other after using it. I bought 14 bags, but these where for 2 tanks originally, but ended up sticking it all in for some rough hills. :mrgreen...

    Dennerle

No no, the aquasoil is a complete substrate in itself. You do need any gravel or sand on top of it. Yes, the plants where healthy but the smell wasn't.
  19. TDI-line

    Dennerle

I had gravel on top of the Deponit mix, which is basically sand with ferts in. ADA is quite expensive, but you'll find the majoirty of people on here swear by it, and i wish i find this site before i splashed out on the Dennerle range. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2347&hilit=destruction

    Dennerle

Hi, after used the full Dennerle range before, and i used a crystal quartz like gravel with the Deponit mix, which is basically silver sand with slow releasing ferts. http://www.dennerle.info/EN/HG09UG03.htm Have you thought about the ADA aquasoil range?
  21. TDI-line

Can't decide between eco complete or ada Aquasoil...

In the long run, in my opinion, you can't beat the ADA aquasoil. I change my tank around all the time, you just get use to a little clouding rom the AS.

    Substrate Heating

More marketing spiel here too. http://www.dennerle.info/EN/HG09.htm Sounds good doesn't it, so i bought it lol.  Did you know in the ADA catalogue, there is a heating tray for under the substrate, but Mr Amano doesn't seem to put this in his show tanks. But it's...

    Substrate Heating

Hi Flyfisherman, i've had 2 Dennerle heating cables in my tank, and really, if i had found this website before i had setup my tank, i would of saved a small fortune. There really is no improvement in growth of roots with or without. I removed mine, as there where complications with a smell...

    Tropica Substrate !!!

CLIVE, CABLE ALERT! CABLE ALERT! The tropica substrate is one of the best, but have you considered using any of the ADA aquasoil range. I'm like you and have been using Dennerle depoint mix and heating cables for quite a while, but after pulling the tank to pieces, have come up with even...

    AS Amazonia II

I've been using tweezers on my Amazonia, but did find that 5 cm depth was not enough, and 8 cm + depth held my stems much better. But i am an Aqua soil newbie. Also i've used Amazonia 1 + 2, there is no visbile difference between them, except for there own unique properties.

Ok, the plan is too strip my tank down this weekend, and put about 12 bags of Amazonia 2 to replace my existing substrat, and of course pull those superb Dennerle heating cables out. But, i have a shoal of mature cardinal tetras and a good few amano's and CRS. How many bags of ADA?

Ok, i'm presently thinking about changing my stinky substrat to ADA amazonia 2. My tank is 720 litres, and is 2000 x 600 x 600 mm. How many bags 9L bags would i need, and would it be advisable to get ADA powersand (is that the one?).

    aquasoil

It's lovely stuff Matt, i bought 3 bags for a proposed planted tank, but the tank leaked before i could set it up. So i have planned to replace my 720 litre with the same stuff, so how many bags do you think i'll need.. gulp.

Hello and welcome too. I always try and keep as much of the old water as possible, and scoop all the old gravel with a new dust pan (not metal). I'm thinking about changing my substrat again...
