In my opinion, you want to give it at least a couple of weeks, but more longer would be better. Amazonia will be leeching ammonia for a while as well so lots of water changes too.

I've kept harlequins, pentazona barb and various micro rasbora (maculatus and brigatae I think) with amano shrimp, without issue. Kept the smaller fish with cherries as well (not sure the harlequins/barbs would resist the shrimplets) :)

Aqua Essentials has Tiger shrimp, though I don't know if he keeps them in stock, or oders them in. You might be lucky to get Nerites from your LFS. It's worth asking a good LFS if they can order something in for you :)

Do you have any shrimp or snails in the tank that you want to keep? If not, you could use one of the anti parasite medications which, along with killing off parasites, usually kill of snails and such. Research this option thoroughly before gonig down this route as some meds can cause problems...

Not really :) Just lots of cover so they have sheltered places to hide from fish etc. When they shed their shells they are vulnerable, and need to hide for a day or so while their new shell hardens :)

Definately. Shrimp love moss :) In my opinion it's because tastey morsels get trapped in the fine plant mass. Shrimp love to spend hours grazing accross a chunk of moss!

The common pest/ramshorn/trumpet snails that I imagine a lot of us have don't eat plants as far as I know. Many apple snail species however do, as I found out to my horror on one of my last tanks :(

Sounds like some sort of cyclops or other tiny crustacian. It might also be possible they're baby snails?

Could also be that they shed at the same time too. When they shed they tend to hide for a good few days as they're shell is quite soft initially.

I had the leaping amano shrimp experience this evening when moving a bit of wood out of one of my tanks. They certainly can jump! Thankfully it jumped straight into the water :lol:

I'd imagine if they were being attacked, there wouldn't be much left to identify as a problem with moulting. It sounds asif the shrimp that Egmel is finding are literally intact, just half/out of their old shell.

You never know, you might be able to cultivate them as fry food :)

I use my hot water tap too, on the smaller tanks. Not really had a problem, unless you count loosing 20 odd cherry shrimp :( (don't think that was related though!). I have a combi boiler in an old house which I think had it's central heating upgraded some years back (rented place).

I started with 6, ended with hundreds after 6 or 8 months. It was a realy problem as I had a parasite problem and couldn't treat my fish without killing the snails... 100 snails all dieing at the same time is not a good thing...

Interesting problem :) You could try larger algae wafers. After an hour or so they start to break appart. I'd say the average wafer is about 1cm across, so might feed plenty :)
