Presumably by putting mains water directly into the tank with the dechlorinator you are technically diluting the dechlorinator with the rest of the original tank water and it may not do as good a job at treating the water?!?....Still I really like this idea in terms of using it as a syphon.

I too have heard horror stories about 38 degree cooked fish and shrimp...and I too noticed that I got electric shocks of the surface of my water. Im wondering whether this temporary heater will be a more permanent thing! I would like an inline heater but the risks are starting to outweigh the...
Thankyou all, just bought an ugly large temporary heater, got in and installed it. The only casualty is a shrimp that's thought "sod this temperature, I'm getting out!!" what a shrimp is doing on my floor I don't know!

I assumed they would be Ok short term because in the wild rain would bring colder water into streams and ponds so hopefully they'll be fine, like you say, they may consider it a cold season.
My only worry is, my new cherru shrimp are used to 28 degrees from their previous owner. The tank is 19...
On that subject guys, how long can fish survive in temperate water? My spare heater is not powerful enough so its staying at room temperature. Will try and buy another tonight.

Never had a problem with them before, and in their defence, the 4 month stock time was partly the manufacturers fault, and the cabinets were solely their careless courier.
I'm sure they'll assist with this hydor

I have to be careful what I say obviously, but I think I've just had a bad experience with this retailer, I don't think this is typical of them....your comment assures me ;)
Is definitely vertical, hasn't been on without the filter and hasn't got air in it.
Honestly its been a nightmare, it took them 4 months just to deliver it, the cabinet fiasco then dragged on for another 4 months after that, and now 1 month of use and I need a replacement!

After 27 days of Operation ive come home to a stone cold tank and a bunch of shivering shrimp! My Hydor Inline heater has packed in already! Time to go back to the retailer, who will no doubt groan about hearing from me again given that it took them three attempts to send me a non damaged...
So far the 1000nd is a God send due to its ability to increase and decrease light intensity. I can't defend the 1500 and its whining but I can defend the silent 1000

Personally I think rectangle with chamferred edges, with a plastic trim would look best. As long as it looks like it was bought that way I dont mind. Thats why im being quite picky. I like both of the suggestions above. I may look a little more into the desk tidy ones that James suggested. Thats...
Hi All,
I have the common problem with the TMC Signature Cabinets in that they havnt put standard holes in the side so that you can run your hosing out of it. You can only have the hoses coming out of the back which is less than ideal for a lot of Aquascapes.
I am looking to do what Mr...
I did ask about an NA but my requirement was 5cm smaller than the standard size so it would have had to be custom made, which I would have expected to be more expensive...perhaps im wrong :-S
I have opted for B&Q 19mm Chrome plated plastic pipe (seems pretty strong), with 90 degree bends and brackets for the cabinet. Cost me £50 which is a lot if this idea fails but if it works Ive made a saving!
My tank will arrive next week and away I go!
Ahhh ok! I was wondering about the bends when using the wardrobe poles! If those bends are strong enough I think that may be my preferred option now. Id rather get something that I don’t have to bend ideally
Thanks Nathaniel, the 3m sizes of the strips look a lot more suitable that all of the local stores I have checked! Can these be bent with a normal pipe bender do you know?
I had looked at those but I wasnt confident with the height, I would have liked the option to raise and lower tiles as and when...I know you can dim the tiles if the par is too strong but I think they look better suspended. I may take this option though
Hi all,
If making a light rail to hold 2 x TMC 1000ND LED Tiles, can anyone advise on material and diameter of the pipe that I should use to ensure that the structure is strong enough?
Ive looked at copper but as a soft metal I doubt its strength (although I dont think 1000ND tiles are all...
