ONF Flat Nano with 3rd party dimmer

Sorry to be dumb, but I need this spelling out more clearly. Is the S2 Pro just a TC-420 in a different case? And how does that explain what I'm seeing?

ONF Flat Nano with 3rd party dimmer

    OK so I downloaded an iPhone PAR meter app called “Korona”. I’m not sure if it and/or the iPhone are any good for this but it should give us an idea. Results taken 3 inches directly below the light at the water surface: 1% = 47 PAR 2% = 143 3% = 205 4% = 300 5% = 358 6% = 445 7% = 490 8% = 569...

ONF Flat Nano with 3rd party dimmer

Oooo thank you! So it's going to be hard to establish what part is my psychology vs what part is the light. Tonight I'll play with one of the low cost light meter Apps for iPhone and report back.

ONF Flat Nano with 3rd party dimmer

I've got the ONF Flat Nano, not the plus, the basic one with no app control - only a 4 stage dimmer (100%, 75%, 50% and 25%). I've added one of the 3rd party Chinese made dimmers, the S2 Pro model reviewed by both Jurijs Jutjajevs and Filipe Oliveira in YouTube videos. It works but the ONF...

    Juwel Helialux Smart control help

If you want to do sunrise & sunset you could say ramp up to 50% over 1 hour, then run at 50% for 5 hours, then ramp down to zero. If you want to extend your “lights on” you could potentially run at 10% for an hour or two before and after, but given we have CO2 worries here, I’d avoid that for...

    Juwel Helialux Smart control help

Colour mixes are personal preference really - the plants will adapt (so once you do go for a setup only change to another gradually). Re. Intensity - I checked back in my own journal and I had 48w of T5 light on my 90cm high tech. You’ve got a similar amount but in LED which is more efficient so...

    Juwel Helialux Smart control help

It’s a lovely scape - will be wonderful when those ferns grow in. You’ve got a blue drop checker there - 48watts of LED is quite high light so that will definitely lead to algae if you run it before the CO2 is distributed! How does it change colour over the lights cycle and how long before...

    Juwel Helialux Smart control help

Cool, in that case lets see if @hypnogogia can help us see why he’s got things running and you are getting algae. Most likely down to flow and CO2 distribution. If you’re not shy a full tank photo might help too.

Please could you also advise: Adding CO2 or liquid carbon or low tech? Jewel filter or other? How many litres per hour of flow? What wattage lighting?

High photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) and LED dimming (pulse width modulation)

I think so too. I am pretty sure that from a plant perspective it is simply a matter of how many photons hit your chloroplasts (driving your chemical reactions) in a given time. Whether the photons arrive in pulses or a steady flow won’t make any difference at the chloroplast level. BTW @Simon...

    Lighting calculator

While I was checking the price of PAR meters recently I noticed in the US Bulk Reef Supply loan them: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/7-day-rental-mq-510-full-spectrum-underwater-led-par-meter-apogee.html and perhaps foolishly assumed that means this was normal. However googling just now I'm...

    Lighting calculator

I have to say, coming back to the hobby after a 10 year hiatus, lighting is the area that got WORSE. Before we knew roughly how many watts of T5 or T8 per litre were needed to grow different types of plants with or without CO2. Now we have beautiful efficient lightweight LED lamps but can’t say...

    Sunrise / Sunset

For 120 quid you could invest in a dimmable ballast or two - they start at around 40 quid, and start saving the rest for a lighting computer. I love the idea of them, but it really is a nice to have...

    Arcadia Luminaire - unimpressed

Thanks Matt, I did wonder and if its still bothering me in the future I might try. I can see the attraction in having the ballasts in the cabinet so you can run a lower voltage (and hence finer) cable up.

    Arcadia Luminaire - unimpressed

Thanks planter, I've calmed down a bit now (wrestling with CO2 and filter plumbing instead). Yes, it just reaches, just. I still have to hide one flex per side though, doesn't seem optimal to me... Cheers, Ray

Superman's Light Upgrade for Vision 180

Re: Lighting Upgrade to Luminaire (Blau Lumina) Is it a rebranded ATI Powermodule? http://www.atiaquaristik.com/index.php?id=124,0,0,1,0,0 I think it is, PJAN used one, so you are in good company: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/lighting/16792-high-tech-lights-open-tank-example.html 156W...

    Arcadia Luminaire - unimpressed

I've just set up my 90cm Arcadia Luminaire. 4 * 39W. I don't actually need that much light but the price upgrade over 2 tubes is minimal. Anyway, it comes with two, as expected, but - wait for it - one emerges from each end of the luminaire. Why? Surely that's the worst of both worlds? I...

    LED lighting over planted tank...

Cute, the glitter effect is very Metal Halide looking. So you are running a low light setup while you are away? Probably a good idea if your daughter is anything like my 10 year old she will only remember to dose and feed every other day, even if the tank is in her bedroom... The...

    LED lighting?

Very sweet. I could go for one of those 20 Gallon, to coin a phrase, "American nano's" , almost makes me want to try a reef :D. Unfortunately EOS are not showing this kit on thier website yet (http://www.eloseurope.com/en/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=71), not even the 20...

Cheap HO T5 fluorescent tubes - Update with photos

Moderators - can I suggest we make this a sticky? It is super useful and gets harder to find as time passes - especially for new people who don't know to look for it :D . I'm also inclined to suggest a lighting section in the same way as we have a CO2 section? Thank you, Ray

Lighting and flow for 90cm 200L+ tank

Thanks all for your help - tank is ordered today. 3 - 4 weeks wait because he doesn't have the opti white glass in stock. I've only asked for opti white on the front and sides - price difference was 174 pounds vrs 205 pounds so it would have been rude not to! I'll report back in a journal...

Lighting and flow for 90cm 200L+ tank

That's brilliant Eds, where would we be without you? You mean like this: Any reason for that not to work? I suspect flow is not quite so good as right down the tank but hiding is better and I use less tube under the cabinet so better flow in that respect. The LFS finally called me with a...

Lighting and flow for 90cm 200L+ tank

Thanks guys, sounds like I have a plan! :D For good filter flow, would people go for option A or B? As I said, I'm going to get the tank drilled, this makes me a little nervous because nobody seems to do that on UKAPS, but the LFS seemed confident about it and Barr and Senske do it for...

Lighting and flow for 90cm 200L+ tank

Thanks James, that's very interesting. Would you be prepared to link to the study you found? So we have some effiencecy improvement due to reduced restrike from the T5, some from digital ballast and some inherant efficiency gain from T5 - looks like it should take me over 2WPG in any case. Do...

Lighting and flow for 90cm 200L+ tank

Folks, could you sanity check this for me please: I plan to do a low light low maintenance C02 Asian theme tank. Plants will be mosses, ferns, various crypts, Blyxa, C. Helfrei and Danoi. Tank is 90cm * 45cm * either 50, 55 or 60cm high - I've yet to decide. So we are looking at either 200 or...

Is there a fair priced dimmable lighting controller?

Can someone please point me to a lighting timer that can also do dimming? I quite like the idea of my lights gradually fading out in the evening. It should spook the fish less, is nice and zen in the evening compared to that abrupt "click" and I can get an extra hour of light in without...

    Diy Luminair

Be vareful here, T5 HO is very intense and in a small tank the distances are tiny. Tom is using 24w here: http://www.ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=657&start=0 and I'm using 13w on a EasyCarbo tank, but its nearly too much. I think on 4.2WPG on such a small tank is more like 6WPG on a...

    Mid Day Ciesta?

Clive and I touch on the subect in this thread: http://www.ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4883&highlight=#4883 Like I said there, on my 25L liquid carbon tank a noonday siesta seems to slightly slow plant growth. (although I did cut from 10hours to 9 hours light at the same time, and of...

    11" cube lighting

I think 9w or maximum 11w would be OK. I have a 13w T5 compact flourescent with reflector on a 25L and unless I dose liquid carbon I grow green spot algae. With 13w I get redening of my Echinodorus Tenellus which suggests its strong light.
