Mine used to chill in my Eheim under the bottom tray. It should have been physically impossible for them to get there, but somehow they did! I am not sure if they were able to get back again to reappear like yours did however - it would have required navigating the impeller or crawling back...

I had these guys. They breed like crazy. My advice is to remove them when you see them before you are overrun. You probably don't have as many as you think - like you say, they really get around.

Hand removal, I told the kids to take them out, left the long tweezers by the tank and now there are none :D They were squemish about killing them though - I had to do that...

Is there anything concrete we can do to measure "water quality" for shrimps (or some fish, like Chocolate Gourami for example) or any rules of thumb? Is it water changes? RO? Or just having a long established tank? Or do we just blame the water when shrimps get sick because we can't see them...
