Thanks for the responses. The tank will be heavily planted with epiphytes only and hardscape (NA style) and water is London tap water. I’ve updated the tank dimensions as yes I made a mistake between cm & mm!!
Hi all,
After many years of having various tanks from 50 - 60 litres, I am planning to upgrade to the biggest tank I can house which will be 120 litres (100x40x30H cm).
I will sit about 3 metres away from the tank so want some fish I can actually see in there, as much as I love nano fish.
In...
Ed - Yes they're new. Unfortunately Maidenhead Aquatics Morden where I got the fish from closed for trade the day I bought them, so I can't ask!
Stu - I do crush it up small but I'll try the above tips also. Thanks.
I have 12 Ember Tetras, it's been 6 days now and they will not eat either the ground up Tetra Colour Pro food or frozen Cyclops. They will put it in their mouthes but spit it out, I have not observed ANY eating, at all.
They seem happy enough, if a little shy, though most of them have good...
I would go easy on the ottos, I have 2 in my 54L, I find that there isn't enough food around to support more in my tank, I had more but they died, and I tried feeding MANY different foods but they don't seem to pick up on it at all.
The two I have are nice and fat and healthy, and have been...
Hi, I just bought 3 more rummy noses and one is swimming with his nose down and tends to float upwards.
I think it's a swim bladder problem.
Is it possible that it might put itself right? Or should I take him back and get another? Only thing is catching him will be a right pain in my tank and...
So what temperature is good for a community tank (i.e. my fish below)?
It's at 24 at the mo, or are you saying that these fish probably need different temperatures/tanks?
Hmmmm........ :?
^ Cool thanks, they look okay, but I think I'll take a trip to Wholesale Tropicals some time soon see what on offer!
Thinking abut re-scaping so we'll see!
Not all that keen on apistos, they look a bit grumpy!
I think they may be a bit large for my tank, it's only 54L (60x30x32cm)
Anyone know a GOOD source of actual German Rams???
I'd be willing to pay for quality fish...
BTW all the other fish are healthy, the Rams are breathing bery heavily just below the surface, and one has I large lump next to his mouth (wasn't there a few days ago).
Was feeding them mostly bloodworm, and some flake, and they had a go at some algae wafers too.
Hi all,
Haven't posted in a long time here, hope you're all well, I have just graduated :)
I bought 2 Rams about 2/3 months ago (the first died within a week and I got a free replacement).
BUT, both fish are extremely ill and on there way out, which is quite sad as they really were great.
I...
My black neons and rummies are happy as larry now in my 54L.
They are always swimming around and 'exploring'! :D
I think that the key is to allow them time to fell comfortable, and have enough plants in there (I'm really not a fan of iwagumi for this reason).
Also it only takes one scared...
My rummies hide a lot too, though I've noticed that when I do less maintinence they gain confidence and swin aound more, but as soon as I do a WC, they'll hide for days :(
Well I'm skint so I'll probably just put him in a 10L i have laying around for a few days.
No filter and heater but should be fine i reckon,
thanks again
Hi, I just noticed that one of my fish has some fungus/finrot :(
I have this stuff,
Does anyone know if this is okay with amano shrimp in the tank? It doesn't say...
Thanks
I can't really tell either, but I will say that have had 100% fatality from whitespot before, and the second time it happened I just banged a load of medication in there and all but one of the fish survived!
So maybe just treat with a general parasite/fungus treatment. I can't remember the...
Get some stones (I use ADA riccia stones as they are flat) put them in a shallow tub of old tank water on a windowsil, and you have the best food supply for your ottos constantly! Just drop one into the tank when needed. They love it! :D
Thought I would share these vids I found on a late night YouTube trawl (haha trawl)!

It's called Keston aquarium, part of Wyvale Garden center. Their fish are absolutely top notch there, and the staff are fantastic! Last time I was there (probably a month ago, they literally had hundreds in one tank, they always have them in stock.
They can live for years I think, maybe up to 5! Good innings would be three years though. I have / had three, I only ever see two though, and that's only because I know where their hiding place is! Was considering getting more because basically I want to see them more - so maybe if they had...
How many Ottos would you say is a good number for a 54L planted nature aquarium style tank?
Also how many algae shrimp?
I have 7 rummy noses, 5 black neons, 2 black phantoms, and one platy.
ta :)
SNAILS!!!? :(
Well I have two snails that i've seen in there - don't know where they came from.
Yes, BGA and other algae started recently when I switched from RO to tap water. Will sort it soon, no time at the minute - last few weeks of my architecture degree (MANIC)!
Are you sure it...
Hi during some much needed maintenence this evening, I spotted this:
Are these fish eggs in the middle of the pic? I have black neons, rummy noses, ottos, and shrimp in my tank, so I don't know which they are?
What do I do if I want to like grow them? Do I have to act fast???
I have a 10...
