cost effecive lighting for a 60cm

Yeah agreed, i have been put off the floodlight options now, the spill was one of the reasons. In terms of having a light and dimming it, it just means we have more control over the lighting. Should we need to increase / decrease the lighting then its very easy to do. For example, when i go on...

cost effecive lighting for a 60cm

perfect mate. so the consensus is they are pretty decent lights, just a little bit white if anything. so they are dimmable then via the power cable controller. will have a look for the best prices and a reputable seller.

cost effecive lighting for a 60cm

Has anyone tried these? Looks ideal. wondering if its a knock off compared to the second link? A reputable seller? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chihiros-A-Series-Aquatic-Aquarium-High-Output-LED-Lamp-12-39W-Light-20-60cm-/221798548976?var=&hash=item33a43945f0:m:mTVb6Hg4-PiKMemvlcSBPYQ...

cost effecive lighting for a 60cm

Ive had a good trawl and would deffinately need a dimable option. Over a tank of that size, i think im going to need two of whatever i get. Be it, led tiles floodlights. Its working out the easiest and most cost effective way of rigging something up.

cost effecive lighting for a 60cm

Hi all, Beginning to plan a new tank and scape in my head and the lighting scene has changed so much since i left the hobby. I remembee it used to be arcadia luminaires and T5 tubes with everyone banging on about WPG! How times change  I am undecided on the style of scape, but the tank...

Adding more lighting to a Rekord 120

i added an extra tube too my 120. on the sloping part of the lid at the front. however it does block the feeding holes as mine was a t8 so quite chunky. i didnt really neeed it though, just drilled two small holes and mounted a couple of light tube clips. bught the tube and balast and away you...

    t8-t6's

^^^ im going to have to translate that!! with T6's you would expect more light to be piercing further down the water coloumn as opposed to the T8's.
  10. N

    Narrow timers

i struggled with that, so i got myself an extension blocks with switches so it was like --plug--switch--plug--switch instead of --plug--plug--plug-- etc having the switches also means i can turn individual things off rather than the whole block.

    immense lighting

hi, i want to try my luminaire out for a week or two over my 120L, however it is a 4x54w T5. i currently use 1x30w T8. if i used the luminaire (on 2 of the 4 lights) would i just get instand algae? substrate is sand, plants, anubias and java fern no ferts, no co2, w/c 25% weekly. i know im...

    arcadia luminaire help

i thought about that but the holes are threaded and i would have to get the exact size, and its tricky becuase not many places stock plastic screws, let alone the ones i want!!!

    arcadia luminaire help

i know :( i had already checked and its annoying, i dont want to have to buy the whole legs as its pointless, and i cant DIY it either. if i new the name of them or some type of product code, i could get googling, or if anyone has some spare (longshot i know!!!)

    arcadia luminaire help

hi guys, just picked up a second hand arcadia luminaire, not sure what type it is though. (it is 120cm long, and has 4x54w t5's if that helps) - its overtank not suspension. now my question is, where the legs fit over the tank, i can see there are small crew like holes (made by arcadia!) one...
  19. N

    opinions please

but it says 120cm so surely that will fit my 120cm tank? :D i guess you dont have a 120cm tank, and you have asked if they do other sizes? am i correct? i might get one and be the guinea pig.
  20. N

    opinions please

the question is where would i find a tropical replacement bulbs? i havent a clue where to find them! also, can i have your opinion on how much light i will actually need. The tank is a 4x2x2 and it is a 130 (US gal) the height is quite large (60cm(2ft)) so i do need some strength in my...
  21. N

    opinions please

i have and i thought about it but mine is a large 4 foot. its 4x2x2 so i need quite a lot of light due to the height of the tank. even if i ran both dans tubes i would get 78w of light, whereas the ebay one i would get 110w (if i ran two out of four) 110w would give me 1wpg which im hoping...
  22. N

    opinions please

im very tempted to have a go... i either spend £60 (inc p+p) on that, or speand £155 (inc p+p) on buying an expensive one. Even if it does go bang, i can buy another for the less than the price of the 'more expensive one'

    opinions please

hi guys, any opinions on this cheap luminaire http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GA-120cm-4x55W-HO-Power-Compact-marine-aquarium-light_W0QQitemZ280383446375QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Fish?hash=item414827dd67&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 i say again cheap, but even if it lasts a while...

    two or four? (T5)

what luminaire do you have then? i thought all luminaires had just the one plug but two switches on the unit? if i had two plugs i would be able to use a timer and problem solved!
  25. N

    two or four? (T5)

hi, its all change now, my tank is going to be 4ft (length) but it will be 2ft deep. i will have a total of about 415L (after decor and substrate) i guess i will have to have the 4xT5's then? my question is, will 2 on there own be not enough? (just over 1WPG) will 4 on there own be too much...

    Sylvania Grolux T8

i know i have a Growlux T5 but its the same thing. on my tank i have 2 white (osram skywhites) T8's and a Grolux T5 (pink colour) and a bluey colour osram T5 (think it mihgt be an 880 but not sure) but the mish mash of tubes produce a really nice colour, i love it. :D
  27. N

Whats the difference if i bought ....

liquid carbon is ok for small tanks. anything larger than 60L i would deffinately go pressurized. start off with plants like anubias, java fern, mosses, cryptocorynes, vallis, swords (echinodorus)
  28. N

PLants that will grow with 1 wpg

vallis will grow as well mate. :D i believe red rubin is a type of echinodorus. check TGM and see if they sell it, it will give you an idea of the conditions it needs. if you have a nutritious substrate your choice of plants may grow and the plants should be more healthy.
  29. N

How long do you keep your T5 lights for?

most bulbs T8 +T5 should be replaced after a year..
  30. N

    lightube blow out

i guess it must have been a faulty tube becuase it had only been on for less than 2 hours. i will have to rely on my 2 30w T8's for now untill i can get a new tube. im hoping the light company might replace it for me especially as it went bang (literally) so early on.
  31. N

    lightube blow out

im soo annoyed. one of my light tubes on my 'I' Bar has just gone bang sending shards into the tank. luckily there are no occupants at the moment so i fished all of the pieces out with tweezers and nets. I have one cheap light tube and one more expensive tube which is a sylvania...

    luminaires

yeah, being a skint student i want everything but really cheap so i shop around for ages! its tiresome!
  33. N

    luminaires

ah maybe that will be fine then, if i had the 4x39w i would only run 3 so it makes more sense to run the just the 2 54w. i just dont really want to spend more that £80 on a luminaire really.
  34. N

    luminaires

it isnt bright enough 4x39w ones will be better. i need it to be over 120w in total. i might wait for a second hand one though.
  35. N

    luminaires

i have but there arent any that cheap also no 3x54w, they are 4x39w nd thats overkill for me, unless i could use one or two. also i have seen some bad reviews about that comapny. (???)
  36. N

    luminaires

i still think £150 for a 4ft one is not cheap, i might wait and see if any second hand ones pop up.
  37. N

    luminaires

do you have a link for any?
  38. N

    luminaires

hi, where is the cheapest place for these. i need a 100cm and 120cm ones. i heard you can get chinese ones instead of the expensive arcadia ones? cheers :)
  39. N

    Nano light

i still like the 11w ebay ones. cheap and good looking, can be moved around easily. after they brek you buy another but mine has never broken and they are cheap anyway.

    Jewel T5 high-lite.

i have a 240 and it came with the old t8's. since then i have removed the old bulbs and bought some new ones for about £4 each. theni have got an arcadia I bar 120cm and now i will just get the tubes when i have the funds, i know which ones i need, therefore i have more lighting and will run...

    whats best?

yeah, emailed him, thanks for you help.
  42. N

    whats best?

50cm long x 30 high x 26 deep, the 15w light just didnt cut the mustard if you get me. i would have one over the back and one over the front.
  43. N

    whats best?

to go over my 40L tank. i am removing the hood so the little 15w light will go as well. so therefore i need something else, so i know one light will be 2.4 wpg and the other 2.2 (im not massively bothered) but the ebay light is cheaper even if i get two but i was just looking for some help and...

  45. N

    whats best?

right, il dive straight in (no pun intended) i have a 40L tank as many of you know and i need some better lighting as 15w isnt enough and plus i want to remove the hood. also, i need to cycle a TT ex1200 so it will be idea i hope! but i have some questions. 1) what would be better out...

    T5 tubes 895mm Whats best combination ?

http://ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=555 try this, i like the skywhite osram and the sylvania grolux.
  49. N

HAGEN GLO T8 FLOURESCENT LIGHTING SYSTEM 40W?

no problem, i gueesed the tube would be too big. did you know that you can have a larger amount of fish in a tank that is 60 long than 60cm high? due to the surface area. its just that most people buy long tanks rather than high, unless you are limited on space.
  50. N

HAGEN GLO T8 FLOURESCENT LIGHTING SYSTEM 40W?

what size is the tank? how many us gallons? the 40w tubes are normally about 120cm long, so i doubt that would fit your tank, by guessing your tank is alot smaller going by the small 11w light. just get another 11w light off ebay for about a tenner. type in marine white light, its a clip on.

    DIY LED lighting?

looking good, cant wait to see it in action. (it looks like a drool)
  52. N

    new boy is confused.

sounds like you have exactly the same tank as me and exactly the same lighting. i will be going for a carpet of glosso as well. have the T5's over the front and the T8's behind. i will probably run the t5's for the whole 8-10 hours (whatever i choose) and then have the T8's for a midday blast of...

    Need help, and/or suggestions...

i am reading this right? a 38w started kit (ballast) and a 60w bulb? surely that wont work?
  55. N

    whats my lighting like?

is it an open top tank?
  56. N

    cheap clip on lighting.

i could get two of those, do you know anything very similar in price etc, but a bit more wattage like 15 or 18w.
  57. N

    cheap clip on lighting.

thats nice, like the idea of the blue led's as well. i might get that, and then i need something else thats cheap. becuase that will give me 24w (about 2.4wpg) and i would like around 3. any suggest any other cheap alternatives to the arc pod. cheers aaron, thats a good start.
  58. N

    cheap clip on lighting.

apart from the arcadia arc pod, are there any other cheap clip on lights around with a decent wattage (preferably more than the 11w of the arc pod) also where can i get them from. as i have a 10G tank and need a couple of clip on lights equaling about30w or more. two 18w would be good!
  59. N

    lighting - overkill?

i wouldnt but i have been offered it for about £30 inc delivery. its new and worth about £250.
  60. N

    lighting - overkill?

yeah, thanks for clearing that up, i thought so. il stick with my 2.5wpg.
  61. N

    lighting - overkill?

i have seen a very cheap over tank liminaire. it has 2x250w halides. it will fit a 4ft tank. my tank is about 60USG. would this be overkill!!? i think it will work out at like 7wpg or something. i can find out if if i could run one light on its own but i doubt it. is it worth it?
