Ive had a good trawl and would deffinately need a dimable option. Over a tank of that size, i think im going to need two of whatever i get. Be it, led tiles floodlights. Its working out the easiest and most cost effective way of rigging something up.

^^^ im going to have to translate that!! :lol: with T6's you would expect more light to be piercing further down the water coloumn as opposed to the T8's.

i struggled with that, so i got myself an extension blocks with switches so it was like --plug--switch--plug--switch instead of --plug--plug--plug-- etc having the switches also means i can turn individual things off rather than the whole block.

i thought about that but the holes are threaded and i would have to get the exact size, and its tricky becuase not many places stock plastic screws, let alone the ones i want!!!

hi guys, just picked up a second hand arcadia luminaire, not sure what type it is though. (it is 120cm long, and has 4x54w t5's if that helps) - its overtank not suspension. now my question is, where the legs fit over the tank, i can see there are small crew like holes (made by arcadia!) one...

i have and i thought about it but mine is a large 4 foot. its 4x2x2 so i need quite a lot of light due to the height of the tank. even if i ran both dans tubes i would get 78w of light, whereas the ebay one i would get 110w (if i ran two out of four) 110w would give me 1wpg which im hoping...

im very tempted to have a go... i either spend £60 (inc p+p) on that, or speand £155 (inc p+p) on buying an expensive one. Even if it does go bang, i can buy another for the less than the price of the 'more expensive one'

hi, its all change now, my tank is going to be 4ft (length) but it will be 2ft deep. i will have a total of about 415L (after decor and substrate) i guess i will have to have the 4xT5's then? my question is, will 2 on there own be not enough? (just over 1WPG) will 4 on there own be too much...

i know i have a Growlux T5 but its the same thing. on my tank i have 2 white (osram skywhites) T8's and a Grolux T5 (pink colour) and a bluey colour osram T5 (think it mihgt be an 880 but not sure) but the mish mash of tubes produce a really nice colour, i love it. :D

liquid carbon is ok for small tanks. anything larger than 60L i would deffinately go pressurized. start off with plants like anubias, java fern, mosses, cryptocorynes, vallis, swords (echinodorus)

vallis will grow as well mate. :D i believe red rubin is a type of echinodorus. check TGM and see if they sell it, it will give you an idea of the conditions it needs. if you have a nutritious substrate your choice of plants may grow and the plants should be more healthy.

most bulbs T8 +T5 should be replaced after a year..

i guess it must have been a faulty tube becuase it had only been on for less than 2 hours. i will have to rely on my 2 30w T8's for now untill i can get a new tube. im hoping the light company might replace it for me especially as it went bang (literally) so early on.

im soo annoyed. :twisted: one of my light tubes on my 'I' Bar has just gone bang sending shards into the tank. luckily there are no occupants at the moment so i fished all of the pieces out with tweezers and nets. I have one cheap light tube and one more expensive tube which is a sylvania...

ah maybe that will be fine then, if i had the 4x39w i would only run 3 so it makes more sense to run the just the 2 54w. i just dont really want to spend more that £80 on a luminaire really.

it isnt bright enough 4x39w ones will be better. i need it to be over 120w in total. i might wait for a second hand one though.

i have but there arent any that cheap also no 3x54w, they are 4x39w nd thats overkill for me, unless i could use one or two. also i have seen some bad reviews about that comapny. (???)

i still think £150 for a 4ft one is not cheap, i might wait and see if any second hand ones pop up.

i still like the 11w ebay ones. cheap and good looking, can be moved around easily. after they brek you buy another but mine has never broken and they are cheap anyway.

i have a 240 and it came with the old t8's. since then i have removed the old bulbs and bought some new ones for about £4 each. theni have got an arcadia I bar 120cm and now i will just get the tubes when i have the funds, i know which ones i need, therefore i have more lighting and will run...

50cm long x 30 high x 26 deep, the 15w light just didnt cut the mustard if you get me. i would have one over the back and one over the front.

no problem, i gueesed the tube would be too big. did you know that you can have a larger amount of fish in a tank that is 60 long than 60cm high? due to the surface area. its just that most people buy long tanks rather than high, unless you are limited on space.

what size is the tank? how many us gallons? the 40w tubes are normally about 120cm long, so i doubt that would fit your tank, by guessing your tank is alot smaller going by the small 11w light. just get another 11w light off ebay for about a tenner. type in marine white light, its a clip on.

sounds like you have exactly the same tank as me and exactly the same lighting. i will be going for a carpet of glosso as well. have the T5's over the front and the T8's behind. i will probably run the t5's for the whole 8-10 hours (whatever i choose) and then have the T8's for a midday blast of...

apart from the arcadia arc pod, are there any other cheap clip on lights around with a decent wattage (preferably more than the 11w of the arc pod) also where can i get them from. as i have a 10G tank and need a couple of clip on lights equaling about30w or more. two 18w would be good!

i have seen a very cheap over tank liminaire. it has 2x250w halides. it will fit a 4ft tank. my tank is about 60USG. would this be overkill!!? i think it will work out at like 7wpg or something. i can find out if if i could run one light on its own but i doubt it. is it worth it?
