i planted mine straight into the substrate on tuesday and havent seen any growth since which is odd. dry start method, tropical soil and plant grow underneath. lights on 8 hours a day. I did trim the plants a bit when planting, perhaps i shouldnt have done this?

Thanks, will be dry starting so will just be wetting the soil enough for the roots. The substrate slope might pose a problem though - for the water levels. Once they go submersed i can wack up the co2 and light as there will be no fish yet.

hi all, i have got some 12grow pots and im not sure the best way to plant this one? is it as simple as pulling apart and dividing into individual shoots? The hairgrass is simple, but Monte carlo is new to me. Must say, im impressed how well they travel in the pots.

Vallis is an excellent choice. can create a good effect as they send out the runners.

i have a 2 foot deep tank so siphoning is very tricky. i will just turn off all filters and powerheads, then snip away and use a new to scoop up everything that rises to the surface. with my stems, im just going to snip them at about 1/3rd from the base and replant the rest. cheers

i always find once you unroll those balls they never grow that well, the underneath just rots. why not get some mosses, or some pellia, or even some ricca.

what EI are you dosing? its massive, have you trimmed out some of the old leaves and given it a good thin out, if its got a decent rhizome, you can probably split it up as well.

looks to me like staurogyne but i could be very wrong. lighting seems faitly high, are you dosing ferts etc i would snip of any 'infected leaves' leaving only those that look fine, that way you are eliminating some of the alage thats on your plant, allowing it to concetrate its efforts on...

ive just realised how big that tank in the first pic must be. to be using rocks that large, they totally dwarf the cardinals, impressive, the depth must be about 2ft. ive had a think about my tank, and im going to keep this one simple, i need to brush up on my trimming. so its back to basics. :D

if its A.reineckii it will have a pink tinge under decent lighting. But the leaves look to large to be reineckii.

often it will just get pushed into a corner and remained pinned there. i have had this problem with ricca, mine ended up getting mashed up and so spread out i was picking bits out of my tank for days.

yes, thats almost what it is there for! often, you see 'bunches' of plants at your local aquatic store held by lead weight, and once upon a time the pots had lead in them too. Now however, it is all ceramic disks. make sure the lead is clean though :D

hmm im not to sure on it being the plec, it might be, but im suspicious. for the anubias, its deffinately a shortage of something. do you use any co2? and have you been dosing/what quantities of ferts?

normally its one rhizome, sometimes the rhizome may 'fork' into two so you may be able to split them.

maybe im getting confused, i bought acicularis last scape and i want to use it again. but i though acicularis was the stuff that grew really tall and had the flower buds on the ends, so i guessed it was labeled wrong and it was in fact parvula. is there antoehr type of hairgrass that im getting...

ahh sorry, my fault, i plan on using blyxa in my scape as well, probably a fair amount, so i think the tennellus would look very similar, although i do need something to air the transition between foregorund and the blyxa midground. i might have to go lots of trimming. :lol:

it looks like you have quite and algae problem, and this will compete with your plants for the nutrients you are dosing. we need some more details, how much are you dosing? what size tank? how long has it been set up? filtration? (including any flow, e.g koralia's)

hi guys, i have acouple of very large anubias (rhizomes) and i would like to diving them up and replant them in another tank. What is the best way of me doing this, as i dont just want to cut the whole rhizome in half for fear of killing both halves! how do i do it?

what size is your tank? alot of people have found pressurized better than liquid co2 for HC. but it all depends on your tank size.

try getting a pressuized co2 kit, yeast is no good on a tank bigger than about 40L. - have a look at the fire extinguisher pinned topic. Also, get yourself some ferts, try tropica plant nutrition plus and dose about 3ml daily. (it varies depending on plant mass)

its not hemianthus micranthemoides its Hemianthus callitrichoides hence the HC. It was a typo on gareths part. (i hope) HM is a stem

i take it you have an internal filter? there are some types that you can buy now with a spraybar attached. i think the new interpet one has it and not to sure about the fluval either. you can buy a gravel cleaner. this sucks up the crap whilst leaving the heavier particles of soil/gravel...

if you REALLY want to have then in pots, just put some gravel in there around the stems (or preferably a root tab in there as well) but as Ceg4048 says it is much better for them to remain in the substrate and you can just pull them out when needed, so what if they look abit messy in your tank...

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis looks the best option IMO. i dont know what AE class as high light....??

most of these are high light foreground plants, there must be some that grow with relatively low light, perhaps if someone knows some you could make up a low light tank?.... Edit: james has just posted!

normally with stems if you cut the top half off or top 1/3 you make it busier by allowing some side shoots, if you uproot it and cut the bottom off then it tens to grow upwards more. i normally cut the top off then strip a few leaves and replant that so you basically gain another plant...
