    what led

I did a cree xbd led fixture this summer: http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/diy-move-from-t5-to-led.33917/#post-363110 star board mounted cree leds / driver etc are pretty cheap to be honest, and that's even for a consumer buying not in quantity. All said the mini floodlights above would do a...

have a look at this cree option: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/High-Quality-18W-6-CREE-LED-Work-Lamp-Flood-Light-DC-9-30V-Pure-White-Square-New-/181273768982 (tmc grobeams have 5 or 6 of these very same emitters) so this will be very similar in performance. Hi Was wondering if you could replicate the halide / led shimmer but with t5 tubes by dividing up and spotlighting the light from the tubes in someway...anyone tried this? I've thought about fixing a row of lenses to the reflector or something? cheers

how do people dim their lights

This is the kind of thing I have in mind - a graduated sunset effect, but as the sole purpose would be to graduate the on / off period, the grobeams + controller is a major expense. Thinking more along the lines of some simple LED downlights, as mentioned, but plugged into something that would...

how do people dim their lights

To avoid the drastic on / off of my t5 lights, is there a dimmer type gismo that can be attached to the timer switch? I'm guessing I'd need to switch/check my ballast / tubes are the dimmerable type? :?:

    Lighting Advice Needed

sorry I meant biogenic decalcification. You increased the light intensity by removing the floating plants. Do you monitor the pH during the photoperiod rather than the start? You may add sufficient CO2 to lower the pH, but as soon as the plants hit their peak of activity how can you then have...

I really like comparing to the water report, it made me stop using the toy test kits I had...measured no nitrates when mine were in fact 20! Lighting Advice Needed

In the end Garuf, have you come to the conclusion to add RO to your tapwater, or do you persevere, increase the CO2 rate, etc? On the new tank I'm putting in place I hope to be able to get good results using tapwater, we'll see... cheers Gary

    Lighting Advice Needed

Hi Mark, do you know what the total alkalinity / carbonates are of the tap water you are using to do the water changes? I read you said a hardness of 6dH, but do you know the kH / ppm CaCO3 from the water provider? (can get a water report from their website and is really revealing regarding...

looking for some shimmer, just a bit...

Hi there, I'm looking to get a slight shimmer accent to my lighting setup. I have a tank hood with 2 39w T5 Osram 965 HO cool daylights for growth, but wonder if I can compliment this with a touch of shimmer from a point light source. (still at the hardscape stage...) Again this is not for...
