Whats the best way to store ADA soil for later use?

I've successfully dried in summer sun before. It needs spreading thin and leaving on trays for a couple of dry days.

    Questions/doubts about using (ADA) soil

Nope, EI dosing should suffice from the start, even in inert gravel. But soils do contain nutrients to help, and are more aesthetically pleasing as a rule. More of a choice of what you want to go for. Personally, I'm going to buy some ADA Amazonia II powder soon.

    Best aquascaping sand? Opinions please.

Hello chaps, Well, Ive kind of gone against the grain (Giggidy) here. Although there was loads of unipac colours, I couldnt decide in the end. I liked the Maui but they didnt have it in fine grade. So I ended up with two bags of JBL's Sansibar - River colour. Which specifically states it...

    Best aquascaping sand? Opinions please.

I thought as much mate. As long as its got a nice look and doesnt raise hardness, it'll be right for me. Thanks for replying :) Thats great Stu! That is more or less the look I want, a mixed palette of creams with the odd Gray and brown. Looks very natural to me. Does it raise your KH or...

Will go have a look I think anyway, if nothing else will be worth a look round :)

    Best aquascaping sand? Opinions please.

Hey tim, Thanks for taking the time to reply mate. Do you know if Maidenhead Aquatic branches stock unipac? As I could go to their Stokesley branch tomorrow :) Cheers,

    Best aquascaping sand? Opinions please.

Hey, Was going to buy some 'standard' aquarium sand the other day, but want something a little more natural. Was thinking ADA forest or Unipac Fiji? Can anyone post up photos of sand substrates with what it is, to make my decision a little easier :) Cheers,

Adding substrate to a stocked tank?

Gravel should be fine, with adequate column dosing such as EI.

    Fluval Edge

Sorry, I would just order the one 3 litre if your strapped. Or go for 9ltr if you intend to do more in the future. Upto you!
  13. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Fluval Edge

Do you want to grow plants well? If so, I would suggest ADA amazonia POWDER type. As the smaller grain size will not overpower the scape and give good scale. Don't expect to be able to stock too much, though.

    What substrate to use?

No probs mate :) good luck with it all.

    What substrate to use?

It's the shallow 60 version mate.
  16. Nathaniel Whiteside

    What substrate to use?

Ha, 'How will I know, it's just a feeling'. Yeah mate, I would recommend the 9ltr. You'll have some left over for sure. I would have Said only buy 2 x 3 litre bags, but that's about the same price, so the most cost effective method is 9. It's a personal decision at the end of the day, I've...
  17. Nathaniel Whiteside

    What substrate to use?

I would go ADA Amazonia Powder. You'll need 9 Litres for a decent slope. Plus extra can go away till you need it again, in either another scape or Tank. The normal sized grain will be ok too, but I prefer the smaller grain size aesthetically. If Buying from TGM, it'll cost £49.99 for the...

Nop, just use that, ADA aquasoil has what you need to get you going, along with EI dosed ferts and a good co2 level. Cheers,

    Drying out ADA Amazonia..

I dried my Ebi Gold in the sun on a big board. Took a couple of days to get nice and dry, but when it was, it was good as new.

Substrate supports Yeah Jack, just Ebi Gold and your ready to go. I bought mine from Germany before it was available here. It was expensive at £30 delivered but this is the second tank its been used in. I dried it out after the first. Yep as Tim states, use some plastic supports (cut some...

Thanks guys. Its a little open or bare, but I love watching them. When the moss fills out a lot, will be better. Good decision Jack, FWS stock it I believe. :)

    ADA Amazonia granules and powder

Hey Tim mate, Just took the shots right now. I took all the pebbles etc out of this a couple of weeks back. As the water quality had to be maintained a lot, which in turn possibly traumatises the shrimp. Its EBI mate. Excuse the pipework, Its hardly photogenic

    ADA Amazonia granules and powder

A couple of shots of my very simple ADA mini M, using EBI Gold substrate. Hope this helps a little!

    ADA Amazonia granules and powder

ADA amazonia as a shrimp substrate after left to cycle (4 weeks to get rid of any ammonia, unless using a seeded filter) would be second only to EBI Gold Shrimp soil. If you want tour CRS to thrive, go EBI Gold. Specifically designed for the purpose and held in very high regard for its water...

    ADA Amazonia granules and powder

Yeah Jack, It will give a better scale compared to the standard Amazonia. Go for it!

    ADA Amazonia granules and powder

Yeah just personal preference mate :D
  31. Nathaniel Whiteside

    ADA Amazonia granules and powder

I prefer the powder substrate. Both planting and more aesthetically pleasing in a smaller aquarium. I think the larger grain size looks less natural than the powder.

BEST POSSIBLE SUBSTRATE FOR ELEOCHARIS PARVULA

Hello mate, Welcome to the forum! Well I have no experience with the above substrates bar using the fluval shrimp substrate, which seemed ok. Chucked it out in favour of Ebi gold soon after though. I heard some good things and theres a few people who can advise you on JBL Mando. If your...

Mega deep banks, what to use?

I just used substrate, cost me massive time in ADA Amazonia Powder :o
  34. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Possible substrate calculation alternative?

Does it matter? Buy 18L of ADA aquasoil and you can always have a but left over for another scape. Plus will give you plenty to bank up at the back. I bought 2 large Amazonia powder type and Ive got some left over. Can top up or use it elsewhere.

    Topping up Aqua soil....

All of your 'decent' plant substrates release Ammonia for up to 8 weeks when new.
  36. Nathaniel Whiteside

    Topping up Aqua soil....

I basically did this with 10L of EBI Gold, but rather than cut holes in bag, I left out in the baking sun on a board. Just put it back into my CRS tank, and true to form, it looks completely brand new and is not dusting up at all. Probably even better than first time around. Happy days :D

    Cat litter and Bog wood

Hmm, Could this be a possibility, I don't know your layout, but something like; Have a lid on the water but, and Vent it with hosepipe out window if you want to get rid of smell, make sure top is airtight to some degree. Put an airstone on a large air pump if you can, to stir up water and...

    Cat litter and Bog wood

Use a plastic dustbin, and maybe use a large air pump from the bottom? See if you can create a flow similar to a moving bed filter. That will shake as much dust off as possible for sure. Never used cat litter, but apparently it stinks in the tank, so would go for Bon option.

    Nano Gravel Cleaner

I found pipes more easily worked, as the rigidity of the plastic pipe of the 'Gravel cleaner' makes manoeuvring around obstacles quite difficult. But your choice :)

    TMC nutrasoil

Surely it cant be bad, being priced along with ADA substrates. I wonder if many have tried this with that being the case. TMC are a rock solid company though, and their planted tank range is great.

    Amazonia new full of glass!!!!

My ebi gold in my shrimpscape has a light colour red gravel in it. I imagine. They sift it all, but gravel of the very smae size as the grain of the soil must get through. Its not harmful is it. We all know how good these soils are, so although interesting, it wouldnt put me off buying.
