Remove it from the tank and soak it in a small cup for half an hour or so with enough H2O2 to cover the diffuser. Then just rinse under the tap and put it back in the tank. You dont need to do this often, every 3 months or so or when you see a drop in performance should be just fine.
Instead of bleach I have had good results with H2O2 (hydrogen Peroxide). Does the job and no toxicity issue with livestock once its reconnected. I use a a syringe to fill up the chamber and then dunk it in a glass full of H2O2 so that the central open water flow area also gets cleaned. After an...
Jose both you and that guy who says you are 100% are going around in circles. First you were saying that a 1pH drop in any KH equals around 30ppm CO2 then that other chap says that with a lower KH 30ppm of CO2 will cause a larger drop in ph (the 1-1.5 you have mentioned) and he also says that...
CO2 should come on about 1-2 hours before the lights and switch off around 1 hour before the lights. I would say in this case lighting is actually quite low for your size tank for plants such as HC
I have a 3.5kg cylinder along with an up atomizer and Im pumping in as much CO2 as my fish can tolerate and its been running 22 months now :O !! Its got about a couple of weeks of CO2 left still. My fishy friends call it my magic co2 cylinder. I almost gave it for refilling last Christmas...
My 3.5kg cylinder has lasted me a year and a half and is still going strong on a 125lt at around 4bps for 10hrs a day ! To think I almost gave it for refilling last Christmas cos my cylinder guy was going to be closed for a week and the cylinder felt quite light and almost empty ! That would...
My UP Atomizer also makes a hissing sound when its working. Its completely normal. Your CO2 is leaking from elsewhere. Fill a syringe with dish soap + water and squirt it slowly along all the joints to check them. Plumbers PTFE tape is safe to use on these joints to tighten them and make them...
Another reason for the larger bubbles could be a high bps and a filter flow rate that is not fast enough to handle it. Say 4-5 bps on a 700lph filter or something if you get my meaning. The water isnt flowing fast enough to carry away the microbubbles so the end up joining to form larger ones
I did all that when I used to work in a lab and had access to fume hood. Had to go to the chem department to get the glassware and stuff and had to tell them I was preparing a reagent for an urgent experiment :P
I also once boiled it at home in the microwave in a covered glass baking dish...
Hey guys I have used regular tap water, water that has been mechanical+activated carbon+UV filtered and boiled water as well as deionised, RO and Millipore water to dilute Glut for myself as well as other people who wanted it and as far as I can tell it has not really made any noticeable...
Hi its 1.5 % Glut thats in EXcel/Easycarbo. I have been using diluted glutaraldehyde for about 2 and a half years now in tanks with and without pressurized CO2. Remember to be careful while diluting it. I do it safely in the lab where I have access to a fume hood.
So far it seems to be pretty...
Cool makes sense. Ill try and get a washer. Will a silicone (I think it is its transparent and rubbery) washer do ? Most of the washers Ive seen that are easily available are of this type. By fiber washers do you mean the hard black/brown ones ?
Wow lots of quick replies !! Ok so Im based in India and if it helps the connector on my regulator is the same as what you would find on an Azoo regulator if anyone is using one of those.
Already did the soapy water thing and I already know where the leak is coming from. There is no O-ring, the...
Hey so Ive got a 2kg FE CO2 setup with a welding CO2 regulator + needle valve and solenoid. I have always wondered why my CO2 ran out in a few weeks even though I tested for leaks but couldnt find any. This setup is about 2 years old, I had switched to Excel only for the past year. Im using it...
Random suggestion : If you have a shelf above the tank then you could fill some diluted excel in it, make a hole near the bottom, shove in some airline tubing with one of those valve tap thingies inline and adjust it so that a couple of drops an hour fall into the tank and you have an automatic...
Thats good then, I wanted to know this to find out how soon and easily in a given photoperiod a plant could switch from utilizing CO2 gas and Excel and from what you guys have said I guess plants make use of both simultaneously so it would be instantaneous
Hi, I have always wondered what happens when CO2 gas and Excel are used together in a tank. Obviously the plants would prefer and use the if it is enough but what would happen of it had access to Excel at the same time ? Would it use a bit of it or would it ignore it completely ?
May main...
Maybe your CO2 is dissolving in the filter pipes before it reaches the tank which is why you cant see it. If as you say the water is getting pushed from the diffuser back into the filter pipes, then it should be working. If you hold you ear close to it and you can hear a fizzing type noise then...
Heh thanks for the advice but I can only use a single check valve in my system as the regulator, solenoid and needle valve all fit together in one unit. I bought them separately and assembled it together. The CO2 comes out a push connector and goes straight to the diffusor with a check valve in...
Initially I hadnt fixed a check valve because the pressure made the tubing blow off but after water flowed all the way up to the solenoid, I got some better tubing and put in a check valve. The solenoid is OK but the needle valve was busted so Im getting a replacement tomorrow.
Good to know...
Eeek ! Managed to do something noobish ! I forgot to put in a check valve ! Water flowed right up to the needle valve. The solenoid is working fine and gas is passing through the tube (felt the gas on my face) so I think the needle valve is OK. Problem is, it isnt creating enough pressure on the...
Well it started working after leaving it at 3 for about 20 minutes. Today it did the same thing, didnt start working with the pressure set at 2 so I have left it at 3 until it starts. Is this something that happens regularly during the breaking in period and goes away after a while or is...
Finally got round to connecting it today on the filter outlet. Unfortunately, I seem to be having a problem with mine. I have the pressure on the reg all the way up to 2.7 2.8 and I dont think it is diffusing yet. Is there any way to tell if it is working ? I held a light right next to the...
Got my atomizer today. CAme pretty quick considering I only ordered it last Saturday. Unfortunately I gave my FE for refilling yesterday since it was running low and I wasnt expecting this so soon. Initial impressions : Looks OK, fairly sturdy except for the CO2 connector nipple thingy which...
I ordered mine a week ago. I told the guy I was doing a review for a big aquarium website so he should pack it well and test it before sending or he would get a bad review. Lol it worked he was all yes sir we will test it and all items are packed well and he even threw in registered post for...
Usually with normal aquarium use liquid CO2 will not get into the regulator. This could happen during the end of life dumping stage though. The problem can be avoided by refilling the cylinder before it is completely empty or removing the siphon tube completely.
Hey guys, Im planning on getting an inline CO2 diffuser/atomizer. My two options are the Boyu and the UP atomizers. Ive heard good things about both but which one would you guys reccommend ? Is the UP atomizer worth the extra cash ? While both have generally favourable views Im hoping someone...
Point the Koralia down a bit so that when it pushes the CO2 bubbles left, it also pushes them down so that they take longer to reach the surface, giving them more time to dissolve
Ive never really spot dosed butfrom what I heard, you dont need to leave it for more than a couple of minutes. The idea is to do repeated spot dosings until the algae disappears. Some people also do it in their water filled tanks with a syringe.
I usually just add a large dose when setting up the tank initially but never add extra after a WC, just stick to the regular dose amount. Still it is quite strange why we are asked to do an initial large dose and then smaller doses
All 3 brands of liquid carbon (Excel, Easycarbo and AE) advise a higher dose when initially setting up a tank or after a large water change. This is followed by a recommended daisly dosing of about 1/6th that amount. It has ben mentioned that liquid carbon only lasts in the water column for...
