    glutaraldehyde

I just dose regularly as an algae inhibitor and for spot treatment. Dont buy 25% solution if you dont have a fume cabinet or equipment to dilute it safely. The easiest option is to buy something like Cidex from Johnson & J which is at 3.5% conc and dilute it 50-50 with water and dose that. Make...

    APT Fix

I do know that Glut forms a linear polymer chain by crosslinking with itself when boiled. Maybe Agar might work when added to boiling Glut as a thickener in minute qtys

    APT Fix

I got a bottle to check out. To me it seems to be a bit more concentrated Glut with a bit of thickener added to it. I guess that is the Epoxy Aldehyde bit of jargon. The slightly thicker and stronger solution makes it work faster and cling to the treated areas better/longer. @dw1305 Any clue as...

    Algae scrappers

Do you guys get these approx 6x4 inch metal sheets for wall plastering in the UK ? In India they are very commonly used by painters to fill in cracks with plaster and to level out walls. They are about 1mm thick and quite cheap. Some of us use them instead of an algae scraper. They cover a...

    Algae in filter pipes

So why does algae form in filter pipes and spray bars even when there is none in the tank ? Is there any way to prevent it ? As far as I know it can only be removed by regular cleaning.

    Aquarium Plant Nursery Owner Woes

You could also try reducing the light and keeping the current CO2 levels the same. If the shrimp are doing well in current conditions then you can have them in the tank. This will help with the organic wastes, algae and also increase your income if you have fast breeding shrimp like red cherries.

What is the length of hose that you get with the filter ?

    Cladophora - vile weed

Rather than starting a new thread I just thought I would ask here. Does the Tetratec EX700 need to be placed below the tank or is it OK at the same level ?

    BBA and CO2

Squirt the easy carbo on the bba with the filters off and leave it for a while. It will die and start to go reddish and mysteriously becomes more palatable to ottos and RCS. Getting CO2 and ferts in there will take care of the problem for good

    Cladophora - vile weed

Ok so Im going to stick to the paln I mentioned earlier. I will also bump up the CO2 from 1 to 1.5 bps. Coupled with the extra flow and better dispersion with the new filter, this should be sufficient. Dont think I could bump it up anymore because shrimp were passing out at 2bps. Great...

    Cladophora - vile weed

I guess it was 4dKH solution since it was blue when I got it then turned a medium green with CO2. As I said, I only had it a couple of days since I borrowed it from a fellow hobbyist, not having one myself. Anyways, once I get the new filter, my CO2 diffusion will improve as I will be...

    Cladophora - vile weed

I have already lowered the light by half and increased the nutrient levels by 25 % this past week. I have noticed a slightly slower growth rate but at the same time it has spread to other areas. CO2 is OK DC is green in most areas of the tank (I dont own a DC, borrowed one for a few days). For...

    Cladophora - vile weed

So my 60 litre tank has Cladophora in my Fissidens and HC. Quite a bit of it. From what I have read once I have clado, it will keep growing just like a plant. So far I have tried squirting excel on it with the filters off immediately followed by a 4 day blackout. It did turn brown but it has...

Does high flow cause/encourage algae ?

Yeah, that thread didnt really go anywhere. It doesnt answer any of my questions. All I got from it was that BBA is sometimes seen in area where there is high flow and that you should use whatever fertilisation/planted tank method/theory that you feel is appropriate.

Does high flow cause/encourage algae ?

As the title says, will a higher amount of water movement cause algae or encourage algae that is already there to grow ? I was just wondering what the thoughts on this were. Im using an external filter for the first time and noticed that there is some gren dust/diatom type algae growing inside...
