So why does algae form in filter pipes and spray bars even when there is none in the tank ? Is there any way to prevent it ? As far as I know it can only be removed by regular cleaning.

You could also try reducing the light and keeping the current CO2 levels the same. If the shrimp are doing well in current conditions then you can have them in the tank. This will help with the organic wastes, algae and also increase your income if you have fast breeding shrimp like red cherries.

Squirt the easy carbo on the bba with the filters off and leave it for a while. It will die and start to go reddish and mysteriously becomes more palatable to ottos and RCS. Getting CO2 and ferts in there will take care of the problem for good
