    What is Aquascaping anyway?

Colours can (read; should) be used to enhance and/or compliment neighbouring plants - in the same way leafshape and -size should. An often neglected enhancer/complimenter is the texture or surface structure of leaves. This does not mean you need to work in "separated gruops" of plants. You can...

    What is Aquascaping anyway?

Sorry, Marcel - I expressed myself a bit unclear...........I USED to do "habitats" and surroundings in 3 huge domes (Asia, Southamerica and Africa) for a zoo, for many years. You are right about my current position ;) .

    What is Aquascaping anyway?

As is well known, I think, I've been doing "nature"-scaping in a zoo for many years. This tougt me to NOT do true, realistic sceneries of nature biotope (which, for the record, I can replicate perfectly), since audience would complain that it looked messy, unappealing and "not...

    Aquascape Lifetime

As per above comments - it's a matter of "personality" basically......... Personally I get my needs for rescaping fully covered at work .........so my private tanks/scapes have very long "lifetime". I have had several tanks going on continuously for allmost 20 years without rescaping...

What stem plant would you add if at all to my crypt tank.

Crypt. usteriana will need some time to "settle" and grow strong roots, before growing the big, new leavs. Crypt. ustetiana is not as fast adapting as the Crypt. wendtii types (= f.ex C. Tropica, C. Mi Oya, C. wendtii green and C. wendtii brown). When settled Crypt. usteriana will grow tall...

What stem plant would you add if at all to my crypt tank.

Limnophila sessiliflora (bright, light-green colour) or Rotala rotundifolia (green and orange colour) - or actually better a mix of both. - planted on right corner, behind rock.......to hide "mechanics".........:) Both are very easy plants, that will thrive in very various conditions (= can't...

    Getting plants to stay down!

To be honest....... most fish (barbs in particular) are a PITA in a new-planted tank. My advice will allways be, to wait a bit, before adding fish. According to carpeting plants, wait until they have visually started to grow, before adding fish.

    Getting plants to stay down!

One "tip" is to plant as deep as possible. Don't be afraid to bury f.ex. Monte Carlo so deep, that only a cm. or even only a few mm. of green is above substrate/gravel. If tank-conditions are suitable for your specific plant, it will quickly stretch and grow. Another "tip" is to add an "anchor"...

    Contorted hazel

I've used twigs of this type of hazel, to create "twisted moss-spikes". worked very well. I didn't let the scape run for long, so I can't tell expected lifetime. I did use well dried twigs, though -'and didn't see any bad effects on livestock (didn't expect to, but you never know for sure !!)

    Wood identification

What is usually sold under the name "Mangrove driftwood", often look like this. ( Which specie this wood fall under, is not really certain, though !! )

Something wrong with the scale of objects

Hardscape often look "dramatic" in a new tank..........this will be seriously downscaled when plants grow in size. - so if you are after a "strong" impression from your rocks in final appearance, you really need the "drama" in the start. The rocks are very nice, so there is good reason to let...

    How to secure wood?

The usual black ones can quite easily be used, by driling (stainless) screws into them...........If necessary, just mount two or more.....Suction-cups to end of wood - that is *lol*

    How to secure wood?

The slate-way will work...........but even easier, is to drill a well-sized sucker-cup to the part of wood, to be under the substrate. This method works nicely, when securing wood, not having had the time to pre-soak. Suction-cups can be attached at any part of wood, that comes in contact with...

    Underwater Trees

Who initially said a tank has to look "natural"?? Honestly guys ;allmost ALL tanks are artistic, in some way......even most of the socalled "biotope" ones. Simply because we want them to "look good" (Mother Nature has no such ambition - beauty is defined by humans) Personally I don't mind pink...
