I'm running tubes that are 2 years old. It's total crap that you need to change lamps so frequent.

They'll be fine until you get a lamp that fits your visual requirements. I've used a 1400k over a tank before with no issues.

Have a look at the supafish lights. I think they do 9,11 and 18w Great colour rendition.

I'd agree with amy. I've owned both, and one thing to consider is... hagen's offering is more 'directional' in it's reflectors and design (narrow) reach deeper tanks, where as the arcadia units give more 'spread' IME Arcadia are more versatile, but hagen give better strength light relative...

The Kelvin rating makes no difference what so ever. It's just for personal taste. i(Phone moment. Big fingers little screen. )

why not try lamp specs? you can get decent 8000k bulbs for tenner i believe.

it's about personal preference really. It's a question only experimentation can answer. you could try adding an arcadia plant pro, to warm thing up slightly. I use just 2 x 880's.

All though tubes state a certain K rating, there not accurate. for example, the ADA NAG green rated @ 8000K, has green tinge to it added by the ADA lab. but it's certainly different to a osram 8000K , but you'd think they should be the same both being 8000K

lets not forget, it's about personal preference. The plant pro is a great tube and enhances reds brilliantly. Thats not to say they make red plants redder, they just look red under that K rating. IMO any tube around the 8000K is best(appearance wise), but then that's what I like. i think i...

yes, they are warm, but over the 5400 range i reckon, way over. mixed with a osram 880, tones things down some what. that's a green tube mate isn't it! i've just ordered another 2 osram 880, so I'll be running 4 x 880 without mixing them.

yes, the 5400 will very warm indeed. My arcadia pendant came with a 5400, which was too warm. it's a shame you cant get get the osram skywhite 880 rated @ 8000K equivalent in MH....these produce the most amazing greens in a planted tank!

it is mate. :D again, try the osram 8800 with the plant pro. Actually the plant pro is an awsome tube. The 8800 will just tone it down....in a good way. :thumbup:

i've used the JBL solar 9000. there really green. i'd mix one with a osram 8800 for something that may resemble ADA NAG green

I to have tried virtually every lamp available to MA. there are some great T5 combos to give different looks. I'll second that too. I'm in the 'amano' trap at the mo with 8000k green look. which i think may fade soon.

couldn't agree more. just because products have high price tags, doesn't mean you have to buy it. you can always walk out the shop. ADA goods are amazing though.

not all arcadias have the ability of running with a tube missing. the 4 24w t5 can, and my 4 x 54 wont

great lights. i've used the 1 x 24 in the past.

i guess there almost at completey different ends of the spectrum :lol: miles apart from each other. the choice wouldnt be what light you use, but more what time you can commit to your tank, then choose the light

my opinion for all its worth, is this. buy a 150w MH lamp. if you think of it this way, you can turn the 150w into what ever you want by hanging it a different height. how many lamps/lights can you say do that? my 150 would power a 300cm, 60cm and a 90cm just by altering the height. and...

you'd need to hang it higher than 30cm above the tank. at least 50cm. putting 150w over my tank is the best thing i ever did. but you'd need to be deadly accurate with ferts and co2, or at least, confident.

or make your own cheap as chips....

the unit itself is about 60 cm. from the rim to the light is about 10cm 15cm in all. thats of the top of my head....i did measure and thats about right. great things, even the older ones.

there ok, but couple one up to a hagen power glo 18000K and you get a lovely colour rendition. the hagen really brings out the different green tones, without taking away too much of the "white" light from the 880 which can give an even green tone through out the tank IME

ive got the same tank. and ive put 2 x 11w and an extra 9 w and grow everything in it. you may get away with 2 x 11

how wide is the tank? ive got a rena 300. its 1.2 m long. i dont use the lighting bar on mine (i use arcadia luminaire) because the tank was too deep for t8 lighting hence the upgrade.
