    ADA LED lighting

off topic, but when i saw the fluval for the first time, and was explained the wonderful things it does i thought....Nope! not for me. Eheim all the way.or JBL on a budget. On topic, the oly LED i'd buy is the radeon unit shopwn to me by Jeremy Gay. Awesome thing indeed!!!!!

how much light would i need to grow hairgrass?

Both pavula and Accicularis will grow in low light conditions, but the better of the 2 in said conditions has to be Accicularis. With lower light and parvula, greens are not so vivid as they are when subjected to higher light. Accicularis on the other hand, maintains a nice green even when...

Where,When+Why Should i use backlighting on an Aquascape?

Re: Where,When+Why Should i use backlighting on an Aquascape So, when you look at the tank with backlighting,in person, it looks the same as it does in photos. If you use flash, you get a 'burst' of light, and thus does not give the same effect.

Where,When+Why Should i use backlighting on an Aquascape?

Re: Where,When+Why Should i use backlighting on an Aquascape You don't have to use Backlighting, but from an aesthetic perspective, in real time viewing, it can add so much more to the over all feel. The below image is as you would see it in 'real time' In the past I've added lighting via T5...

    true

    Changing tubes every 6-12 months?!

I'm running tubes that are 2 years old. It's total crap that you need to change lamps so frequent.
  8. Mark Evans

    quick question on lighting

They'll be fine until you get a lamp that fits your visual requirements. I've used a 1400k over a tank before with no issues.

    2x11w or 2x18w over 60cm?

Have a look at the supafish lights. I think they do 9,11 and 18w Great colour rendition.

    ADA NAMH V NAG Green

It's interesting to read others opinions, and user experiences. There's not much talk about ADA colour rendition. Viktor's right. Depending on plant layout, the choice of bulb can play a huge role in the over all look of a scape (real time viewing) Just look at the vids coming from NAG, and...

    ADA NAMH V NAG Green

not too tricky stu. Live view helped tonnes. one thing i had to do was underexpose, as to not lose the colours too much  I've put a green above the 60 and the greens really 'pop'
  12. Mark Evans

    ADA NAMH V NAG Green

For some time now, I've been running the NAMH, which for me, is too warm and renders a yellowish cast. Ideal for showing red plants, but not really to my taste. I've now got NAG green, which I've been after for sometime. Here you can clearly see the difference. This is pretty accurate in...

    growbeam tiles

After seeing George's, I'd really like some of these. Just for the fact, that you can add as many as you like, and also adjust the intensity...the latter being the best bit for me.
  14. Mark Evans

    Arcadia or Hagen Glo?

I'd agree with amy. I've owned both, and one thing to consider is... hagen's offering is more 'directional' in it's reflectors and design (narrow) reach deeper tanks, where as the arcadia units give more 'spread' IME Arcadia are more versatile, but hagen give better strength light relative...

    Juwel Hi-Lite Colour Temperatures

    Cheap metal halide bulbs

why not try lamp specs? you can get decent 8000k bulbs for tenner i believe.

    24W T5 tubes

it's about personal preference really. It's a question only experimentation can answer. you could try adding an arcadia plant pro, to warm thing up slightly. I use just 2 x 880's.

    24W T5 tubes

  19. Mark Evans

What Kelvin is the T5 Arcadia Plant pro?

very true clive. I've gone through a few images, but dont have the right ones to show the point. here's my 60 with an acradia 5400K tube.with camera set to 5400K inn the kelvin setting.it does show rather warm tones. and here's the same tank with the bowens flash, which is rated @ 5400. and...
  20. Mark Evans

What Kelvin is the T5 Arcadia Plant pro?

All though tubes state a certain K rating, there not accurate. for example, the ADA NAG green rated @ 8000K, has green tinge to it added by the ADA lab. but it's certainly different to a osram 8000K , but you'd think they should be the same both being 8000K
  21. Mark Evans

What Kelvin is the T5 Arcadia Plant pro?

lets not forget, it's about personal preference. The plant pro is a great tube and enhances reds brilliantly. Thats not to say they make red plants redder, they just look red under that K rating. IMO any tube around the 8000K is best(appearance wise), but then that's what I like. i think i...
  22. Mark Evans

What Kelvin is the T5 Arcadia Plant pro?

yes, they are warm, but over the 5400 range i reckon, way over. mixed with a osram 880, tones things down some what. that's a green tube mate isn't it! i've just ordered another 2 osram 880, so I'll be running 4 x 880 without mixing them.
  23. Mark Evans

    Cheap 150w MH lamps?

yes, the 5400 will very warm indeed. My arcadia pendant came with a 5400, which was too warm. it's a shame you cant get get the osram skywhite 880 rated @ 8000K equivalent in MH....these produce the most amazing greens in a planted tank!
  24. Mark Evans

JBL Solar Ultra Natur 9000 Kelvin T5?

it is mate. :D again, try the osram 8800 with the plant pro. Actually the plant pro is an awsome tube. The 8800 will just tone it down....in a good way.
  25. Mark Evans

JBL Solar Ultra Natur 9000 Kelvin T5?

i've used the JBL solar 9000. there really green. i'd mix one with a osram 8800 for something that may resemble ADA NAG green
  26. Mark Evans

    ADA Solar I

my mistake. i got suspension bar and hanging kit the wrong way around
  27. Mark Evans

    ADA Solar I

nope. why not try an arcadia mini pendant? just as good IMO houses the same ADA NA lamps too. buy a hanging kit with the savings?
  28. Mark Evans

    Kelvin and plants?

I to have tried virtually every lamp available to MA. there are some great T5 combos to give different looks. I'll second that too. I'm in the 'amano' trap at the mo with 8000k green look. which i think may fade soon.
  29. Mark Evans

    Kelvin and plants?

pretty much so, as long as things are 'balanced'
  30. Mark Evans

    Kelvin and plants?

i think it's more a case of experimenting and finding out what's good for the individual, rather than the individual looking for the ultimate answer.
  31. Mark Evans

    Kelvin and plants?

you get this on every forum. believe me!

    ADA Solar 1

i'm not sure if it's just ADA that do slow start up. my arcadia does it to. takes about 5 minutes to get going.
  33. Mark Evans

    ADA Solar 1

couldn't agree more. just because products have high price tags, doesn't mean you have to buy it. you can always walk out the shop. ADA goods are amazing though.

is a 150W metal Hali a bit OTT

i guess there almost at completey different ends of the spectrum  miles apart from each other. the choice wouldnt be what light you use, but more what time you can commit to your tank, then choose the light
  39. Mark Evans

is a 150W metal Hali a bit OTT

my opinion for all its worth, is this. buy a 150w MH lamp. if you think of it this way, you can turn the 150w into what ever you want by hanging it a different height. how many lamps/lights can you say do that? my 150 would power a 300cm, 60cm and a 90cm just by altering the height. and...
  40. Mark Evans

is a 150W metal Hali a bit OTT

you'd need to hang it higher than 30cm above the tank. at least 50cm. putting 150w over my tank is the best thing i ever did. but you'd need to be deadly accurate with ferts and co2, or at least, confident.

there great lighting systems. brilliant reflectors. i've used them on my MA scapes and i honestly cant fault them.

Arcadia overtank luminaire 4 x T5 24w, have you got one?

yep, 6cm i think. at your peeril mate. i wouldnt recommend anything that isnt safe, but if you think it's safe to do so, then thats fine....common sense prevails thanks my friend. the smaller scape is over now. it is, easier to grow plants, and i'm having problems with it..... due to...

Arcadia overtank luminaire 4 x T5 24w, have you got one?

the unit itself is about 60 cm. from the rim to the light is about 10cm 15cm in all. thats of the top of my head....i did measure and thats about right. great things, even the older ones.

Cheap HO T5 fluorescent tubes - Update with photos

there ok, but couple one up to a hagen power glo 18000K and you get a lovely colour rendition. the hagen really brings out the different green tones, without taking away too much of the "white" light from the 880 which can give an even green tone through out the tank IME
  47. Mark Evans

    lighting a 35 litre tank

ok, i really don't fancy trawling through loads of threads so i'll just ask. can someone recommend 54w t5 tubes for this system. i already have the plant pro but i hate the pink. i want white like my smaller tank osram tubes? thanks

    Rena Tank Lighting

how wide is the tank? ive got a rena 300. its 1.2 m long. i dont use the lighting bar on mine (i use arcadia luminaire) because the tank was too deep for t8 lighting hence the upgrade.
