    BBA & SAE

    Ottos will deal with that!

    BBA & SAE

They get to about 6" and then start to bulk out more as they mature.

    BBA & SAE

I always have them in my tank and they keep the BBA away even though they also take fish food (and lots of it). They just always seem to be hungry! I once lost my last one and couldn't get any replacements - within two weeks the BBA was back! Some may say that this shows my tank is not being run...

    Is this BGA

You're right - it doesn't look very blue or green in the picture. BGA is usually quite vivid in colour and looks like a thin 'blanket'. Could this be diatoms?

Hair algae - I'm now at a loss!

I may stand to be corrected but hair algae is usually associated with low levels of CO2. Have you tried using liquid carbon? Also, do you have any 'bio-removal-systems' in place (like shrimps, snails or algae eating fish)?

    BBA I've tried everything

Lighting is high, no doubt. You could change 1 bulb to a marine blue which will keep it bright but lower the amount of photosynthetic light available to the plants (and algae). Also, as regards the drop checker...sometimes mine seems to 'fix' to a certain colour and won't change. I have no idea...

    A Few Queries ....

In my home tank he can get big and old. In the school nano if he gets too big I will rehouse him in my home tank or MA will take him for one of their display tanks and I'll get a new young 'un.

    A Few Queries ....

I don't keep a shoal of them (SAE) in my 3 foot tank either! Like I said, I keep one (a young one) and he sorts out any BBA or hair algae that the shrimps might not be able to tackle. I do have one in the school nano too (14") where he lives very happily with a small shoal of WCM.

    A Few Queries ....

BBA is eaten by SAE (Siamese Algae Eater) - I always have one of these fellas in my tank as they cure most of my algae problems.

    HELP!!! BGA Issues

A Siamese Algae Eater (SAE) would clear that lot in a few days - and keep it away for good. Biological warfare!

Why can't I stop getting blooming hair algae!!

You may know this but...Siamese Algae Eaters will clear it in a day or two. I always keep a pair of them in my tank - especially good at clearing the longer filament algae like 'hair' and 'beard' as well as BGA.
